Was hoping to see Tyler, the Creator on the track with Lecrae :(
Statik is a solid producer, with some smooth ass beats. And this tracklist implies that this shit might be flames. That being said, I don’t know if he has the ability to carry an album on his beats. All his collaboration projects have at least a couple duds on his part, and it’s not as if a song title bearing the parenthetic “produced by Statik Selektah” will inform my decision on whether or not to play it in any regard. He can provide head-nodders, yes, and occasionally provide a good landscape for great emcees; there’s no denying it. There’s fire in his catalogue. But there isn’t consistency. I hope he displays it on this LP and makes me look like a stupid asshole (which I am; see below), but I don’t expect it. I have no reason to.
I’m sure just about every verse will be either fire or something bearing a strong resemblance to fire. Can anyone really say the same thing for the beats?
And that is the heap of preconceived notions and preposterous standards that I will bring with me when downloading the album; it is about the same amount of both as any other compact disc.
Vizzzyyyy!
