I hadn’t paid for WTT yet, I downloaded it but I’d been planning to buy it. Wayne selling a milli, inspired me to go cop it though. I’m definitely not buying C4 btw, it wasn’t as bad as yall make it out 2B, but it was very subpar. Surprised he sold almost a milli again, but it’s not all that far fetched.
Until someone can definitively prove that Baby purchased the majority of those albums, I don’t believe that Wayne didn’t legitimately sell that many downloads & albums.
He has a huge following that mainly consists of fans who purchase albums; i.e.: suburban kids who are pop radio listeners & MTV/106 & Park watchers.
The last hip hop artists who came close to mirroring Wayne’s numbers are B.o.B, Lupe Fiasco & Wiz Khalifa. Again, look at their audience… they’re one in the same.
It’s all about having those #1 hit records that top Billboard charts. B.o.B had “Nothin’ On You” & “Airplanes”, Lupe had “Shining Down” & “Words I Never Said” & Wiz, of course, had “Black & Yellow” & “Roll Up”. Go back and listen to those songs and then consider the demographic that they serve/appeal to.
The same applies with Wayne having “How To Love” and any of his numerous collaborative tracks. He stays in the public eye by consistantly saturating the market with hit after hit.
Instead of hating, look at his business model & work ethic and learn how to replicate it. Or you can continue to write off his success as a fluke/conspiracy and keep being a bitter, jealous hater.

I work at a cd store and if the shelves were full it’s just cause they restocked them. It’s an ok album and hip-hop should be happy that these numbers are possible. Every artist has a lack luster album and once he’s allowed to smoke his weed and drink what he wants he’ll be back. This is just what a sober Weezy sounds like.

So it shouldn’t be a surprise that Wayne’s album sold so well. Musically…well, it was a Wayne album. It’s like junk food music. I don’t see why everyone is so up in arms about. The majority of hip-hop records are usually inflated for larger tier artists. We all know that most hip-hop music is downloaded due to various reasons, mainly being prices of physical copies. Not to mention, if you decide to get race involved, the majority of Black people don’t buy hip-hop albums as we used too.
The inflation of sales is used spur people to go out and buy the album. Its a ruse. A subtle clever one at that. To actually believe everything the music business, by that I mean Soundscan, Billboard, etc., would have you believe one of their artist is able to push that much weight is naive. Sales don’t equate to skill (FACT) and to believe so is asinine. Just because someone tells you so and so did this many this week doesn’t mean its true: ESPECIALLY in this genre.
Also, we ALL know that business practices of Cash Money have been in the spotlight for well over 15+ years. The lack of proper disbursement of monies in the past couple of years dings their credibility. Baby has also blatantly flaunted other people’s money through the purchase of material things, which he did during the mid-90′s. Its funny to actually see a 40+ yr. old acting like a teenager with the outright waste of money. I’m pretty sure he purchased a few copies, just like the label has done before with previous hip-hop artists to stimulate sales (FACT), to keep his biggest money maker relevant.
As a fan of old Wayne, pre-Carter II, I can honestly say that the material is below average and not even worthy of my time. I didn’t buy the album, but I know of maybe a couple who did AND took it back. The people that buy his music are usually within the 7-16, suburban white demographic (who have been purchasing hip-hop records for the longest since N.W.A. days).
To sit here and read some of these comments big upping a “liar” whose Blood affiliation is questioned (I personally don’t believe it) and who rides the trends like no other (BAPE, Ed Hardy, auto-tune, skater attire) is disturbing. Call it what you want but there is always two sides to a story and I know that its all just opinion. But, remember that.

Whatever the complexities behind actually achieving that plat stat record sold, all I can say is respect weezy for doing it 2dope boy. If you do not like it, do not buy the album. Tha Carter IV was what I expected it to be. I purchased it. I also purchased Watch The Throne. More disappointed with WTT, but only because I EXPECTED more from them. Wayne gives his fans what they want to hear. Plain and simple. I personally even thought C4 was better than C3 overall. Never quite got why C4 got so much damn hate. Its not a super good album, but its not a fucking awful album either. It is what it is. Who siced for some NFL though?
P.S. I’m not a Wayne stan either. I just accept things for what they are. I don’t know how his shit gets so much hate, but people love Rick Ross and Odd Future. None of them are GREAT emcee’s. This album got much more hate than the MMG Self Made album, and this was much better, IMO.
