First he says 50 songs didn’t make the album, then he says he had to choose from 30 songs to make the final album cut, then he puts 2 OLD songs on the album, and now 2 weeks in a row he realeases ZERO music??????? He said in his last stream he was going to release those songs he played. I been a J. Cole Stan but lately I been doubting this kid. So much for having too many songs. Im a big cole fan and im not sure if this album is gonna be dope from what ive seen so far. The art work is cool but he damn sure better have the right tracks on it. IMO workout turned out to be a bad experiment and i havent even heard the feature with trey songz but c’mon That nigga is tired and a waste of space on the album Def could have had better. Plus He let way too many dope beats go for lesser shit like freestyles and other artists projects. Seems like the album is gonna turn out to be just a last minute put together of experiments and i hope i eat my words and we get something worth the time effort and talent this dude has.

in the morning: probably one of my least favorite songs on FNL. if i wanted to listen to that shit i would listen to a drake album featuring cole. we want that real, deep, emotional, ish. i get he wants that song to get its shine too but i feel like it woulda blown up already if it was that kinda song.

Some of you on here are really dumb as shit! Most people aren’t complaining about him having a “catchy” song or a “commerical” song on the album, we are complaining about the songs being OLD. There is a big difference! Yes, rappers put commercial songs on their albums, but they don’t put previously released songs on their albums! lol I don’t like Work Out but whatever if the radio likes it so what. My problem is why would a REAL artist want old material on his debut album? Cole is always bragging about how he is a perfectionist and a control freak when it comes to his music. Well, if that was the case you wouldn’t settle with 2 OLD songs on your debut album, you just wouldn’t. My personal belief is Cole never had enough material all along and he has been lying all along about having all these extra great songs that didn’t make the album. I think maybe to him they were good, but the label told him they were wack. Then next thing he knew his album deadline was approaching and he had no choice, but to throw 2 OLD songs on the album as fillers. Nobody is going to change my mind about that because that is the only possible thing that would make sense for putting 2 previously released songs on your damn album. Cole loves to talk and do all these interviews to express how great he thinks he is, but last time I checked he still hasn’t even come close to having a hit song. That is just a fact.

A musician’s career has changed completely in the last decade. Once upon a time, a debut album was the first work that you ever released. Now, you have to fight your way through the digital underground, release your debut album as a mixtape, follow it up with several more, run a campaign of collaborations, cross-promote tirelessly to keep yourself relevant outside of music, etc. If J. Cole feels that some of his best work got lost in the mess, then by all means he should be able to feature it on a higher platform.
And quit with the “ran out of ideas” garbage, that’s just a ridiculous argument. Many, if not most, artists have put out their best work in the early stages of their career; everyone from Picasso to Pacino to Zeppelin to Kanye has done this.
Finally, I would ask that you look at the name at the bottom of the comment, and limit your responses to things that I’ve actually said. I have never claimed that J. Cole is a revolutionary artist and I haven’t attacked you personally, so quit with the “you against the world” shit, and stick to the discussion at hand.

Drake was smart enough to reach out to established artists and producers to create better music, Cole’s ego told him he could do it ALL on his own. Drake is an incredible songwriter and Cole is below average. Drake can actually sing and Cole just THINKS he can sing. Drake is more business smart than Cole is when it comes to making moves with his career. I can keep going, but I don’t feel like typing it all. lol

j.cole fans started this whole drake comparison shit. just like they started the fake j.cole is new 2pac/better than nas and jayz/greatest of all time shit. I couldnt go to one cole post or video on youtube without reading some annoying ass j.cole groupie hating on drake. Its almost like these cole fans are just undercover drake haters. I literally couldnt just enjoy son’s music without these delusional kids saying some dumb shit and making comparisons. Im still a fan of cole but Its nice to see these groupies being shut the fuck up.

About the cover: J. Cole had to get his face on it clearly as well as somehow give it a basketball look and avoid making it look like a his previous mixtape. The colours and lighting are bold and epic as you can see. So that isnt an easy task…..
I like Drake and J. Cole no doubt. Both very talented. Yes, Drake is a talented song writer, thats why he is where he is now. Cole’s songwriting is so underground and that is what true j. cole fans love him for. He’s now trying to become better and in terms, he’s trying new things and ye, people will bash on him but..wait two 3 albums.
Realistically, Cole couldn’t ask for a better start to his career. Praised mixtapes, excessive touring while making an album, self production as well. and a good portion of his fan base think he’s the truth. Those who don’t think he isnt, or this Lamar is, cool. No one wants the whole world.
Album flop or not, I wanna see him WIN eventually. He deserves it.
