2Deep: Cor-Mega, Raw Forever

blame it on JES7 August 21, 2011

Here are four, rare (to some) gems from QB’s finest, MC Cor a/k/a Cormega. The first joint, Going Straight Up is off of Grandmaster Hot Day’s 1989 album, It’s My Turn which is quite possibly the earliest Cormega recording we’ve been exposed to. Even back in ’89, ‘Mega was a natural threat. Legend tells that ‘Mega was not afraid to battle anyone, including a young (Blaq) Poet of Screwball fame, and an even younger NaS. Prodigy even explains in his book that in order to truly be down as a QB representative, he had to battle Cormega, who was considered to be iller than NaS back then. Next up is Set It Off off PHD’s Without Warning from ’91. PHD was a duo that consisted of DJ Hot Day and Poet (Blaq Poet). You may be familiar with their more well known I’m Flippin’ which got steady burn on The Box. 40th Side of Thangs is a cut I stumbled across Robbie’s blog which features a rare verse by NaS. Rare if you understand the story between ‘Mega and Nasir. Last, but certainly not least, is ‘Mega’s shots of frustrations aimed at both NaS and Nature, where the “beef” that brewed between him and Nature eventually simmered down. Nature had taken shots at ‘Mega on a Clue freestyle when he spit “Claiming you in The Firm, How’s that, when you got your spot jacked?” ‘Mega explains in his DVD that being replaced by Nature in The Firm was more of an economic move, being that Nature had a Trackmasters production deal, and being that Foxy was down with Trackmasters, and Steve Stoute being NaS’ manager at the time. Everything else you heard was more than likely media bias / hype.
