The other night J. Cole hosted a listening session for his upcoming album, Cold World: The Sideline Story, which is due September 27th. And while Complex couldn’t list song titles or quote lyrics, they still do a good job at describing the feel and sound of what we’ll hear next month.
This is the track that Cole made for Jay-Z. The song is still incomplete and missing a third verse. Cole’s verses have references to Jay’s albums and songs so it’s no wonder he thought it’d work for him. Cole thinks he finally made a song worthy of Jay, we can’t help but agree. Hate to break it to ya Jay, the ball is in your court now.

I think this album will be average, I mean both of the singles is far from Cole’s best. I just wish he put out more tracks like See It To Believe It and Return Of Simba. That’s what he’s good in. He don’t need to make a radio hit. I hope the album will be good but damn idk wassup with the nigga.

The album sounds like its going to be very good. I don’t think people realize that “classic” should be referred to very few albums (Thriller, Reasonable Doubt, Illmatic). With that being said, it would still be an unbelievable accomplishment for Cole to have a VERY GOOD debut album. I predict 120k first week and if he reaches 200k that would be an unbelievable achievement for Cole.
That being said, I bet Dollar & A Dream 3 and another Simba song will appear on the album. Guarantee that Jay feature will come in as well. I hope he leaves In The Morning off and keeps Lights Please. Work Out should be a bonus cut.
All that said, lets rejoice on the fact that the West Memphis 3 were freed today. Fuck our ridiculously unfair/inefficient justice system.

Honestly it sounds like alot of songs about girls and some old songs that everybody been already heard playing big parts in the overall feel of the album. Im sure the album has some gems on it but its too much relationship songs it sounds like. Not hating but just read the complex review and judge for yourself. On the other hand that Evidence sampler is on rotation for the rest of the day for me cause that shit sounds crazy as fuck. I hope it does though. And he shouldve used that Can’t Get Enough for something else than a love track real shit. Extremely good beat, extremely weak lyrics. Work Out = weak, Can’t Get Enough = weak. Return Of Simba = perfect.

Outta 16 songs on Coles album he still has ten that people havent heard. Those songs need to be extremely good in order to satisfy what his core audience is expecting from him. I dont know if they will be or if they wont be but the songs that everybody has heard already , it doesnt seem like people are thrilled by them. Like I said its down to ten songs now and they need to have classic material on them or all these people saying Cole is hip hops Jesus is gonna be in for a let down. This is why some artists should not do mixtapes because if Cole still had all those songs to choose from off his tapes. He would for sure have enough to deliver a classic or close to something classic. This is why I think Jay Elec stopped doing mixtapes in order to have alot to pick from. Underground artists need to do mixtapes , signed artists on TV every week and doing tours dont really need to play that game because its unnecessary in my opinion. The song he did one verse on with Miguel probably reached more peoples hears then both his last two mixtapes.

Again Define your criteria for a classic. Is a classic commercially successful or critically acclaimed or a combination of both. Dead President is a re-release of a mix tape song. Lights please is the reason, Jay-z signed Cole so He has it on the album for sentimental reasons. All Hip Hop’s review said Cole has a classic debut and that is without the Jay-z feature. I think all opinions should be reserved until Cole World drops. The video for ” Can’t Get Enough” hasn’t dropped yet. GIrls Love Cole and Trey speaks for himself. Females control the radio so I think this song could end up being a big hit. Cole is probably timing it so it’s impact will translate into albums sales. My prediction is the album will sell 100,000 copies first week.
Dont say this album is classic because you heard somebody within the industry say it is because they cant say it sucks. Listen to it and judge for yourself cause like I said theres still ten songs on the album that people havent heard but If the album is classic with songs like the ones we’ve already heard then that would mean the other songs would have to the best songs out for the rest of the year cause it looks like Work Out is number 3 on the album. Now go through all your classic hip hop albums and look at track three and compare it to Work out.

Everytime i read something about this album i get the feeling I’m gonna be mad disappointed. I’ve been supporting this dude since the come up and as much as I love Cole and wanna see him win I dunno if I’ll even buy it anymore. All these bad decisions for the sake of radio play and fame are putting me off and top of that he said he has all this incredible material yet put two old songs on his album. How you gonna do your fans dirty like that? Definitely gonna download it first before I invest in this.
