Eminem Named King of Hip Hop By Rolling Stone

I’m sure the C-Section will have a field day with this one. Remember, it’s only Rolling Stone. Check their Soundscan chart after the jump.

More than half of Eminem’s 7.5 million in sales were taken by Recovery. Now past four million copies in the U.S. alone, Recovery was the best-selling album, period, of 2010. One-fourth of those albums sold digitally, making it the first album in history to sell more than a million non-physical copies, a mark it crossed just last month. Despite losing the Album of the Year Grammy in an upset to Arcade Fire, Recovery still took home Best Rap Album, Eminem’s fifth win that category. It also doesn’t hurt to have a crossover hit song to fuel album sales, and Recovery had a monster: the Rihanna-supported ballad “Love the Way You Lie,” which topped the Hot 100 for two months last year and probably fueled more soccer-mom album purchases for Shady than at any time in his career.

  1. how is this news? or shocking? thought every1 knew this already.

  2. Not gonna argue, I do agree. Though I’m looking at the old Eminem. But hey, it’s still Eminem. He’s not as good as before, but he’s not shit neither now. He wrote history.

  3. This is how they’re basing the King of Hip Hop? Really? Stop playin’. C’mon MC Hammer sold records, dammit. No disrespect 2 Em, top 5 definitely, but not the King.

  4. drake is number four?! after one album? and luda’s only at 11? im really surprised Jigga’s not number 2 at least

  5. wtf are those numbers from? those arent total sales cause jayz sold WAAAY more than wayne and more than 2 mill. drake aint done 2 mill and lupe went gold with the cool alone so how the fuck does he only 579,000? am i missing something?

  6. meh, im ignoring this

  7. GOAT

  8. where’s max b ):

  9. cosign @?
    i’m really confused

  10. That’s a pretty weak way to rate someone ‘King of Hip Hop’.

Rolling Stone is garbage though so I’d take their opinions with a grain of salt

  11. The numbers are only from the past 3 years.

  12. a million people really bought a gucci cd??? really??? Correct me if i’m wrong but I dont even think the distant relatives cd sold a million.

  13. thank you based god

  14. Pac sol 78 mil worldwide so this list not based on total sales. Kings of H-H = Pac, Big, Ra, Gangstarr etc. Em not on that list YET. Niggas trippin hard. Fuck Rolling Stone, they put mufuckin Snooki on the cover rip any nigga believin RS. Snooki smh let that bitch suck my dick and jump off the colloseum hoe ass dwarf.

  15. Yall can look at sales all yall want but talent wise, Black Thought will eat anyone on this list.

  16. so if Gucci sold more than Em’ he would be crowned king of Hip Hop? that’s some logic. I’m sorry but Eminem would barely make my top 10 now a days.

Like Justice said though, it’s only Rolling Stone. It’s only the majority of people who think like this.

  17. one whiteboy above all the black rappers. kinda like the one black belt holder among all his white mma fighting peers huh?

  18. White Power! I mean… uhh good job honkey bitch

  19. Oh, this is going by album sales, not like status or anything. Oh, ok. But, there will never be a “King of HipHop”, it just can’t happen. Music, especially hip-hop, is like fashion, it’s never completed/finished. Hip-Hop is constantly evolving. It never stops changing. But, congrats to Em on the title though

  20. eminem is a force. even sans the record sales you cant fucks with that cat. he will eat you, and if he aint hungry, i will for him.

  21. I don’t know how right these charts are, and I wouldn’t give Em the King of Hip-Hop award…but the dude gets mad respect. He has grinded from the underground, to the mainstream and did just like some of the best black rappers did: scared the shit out of white people lol. now i’m not the biggest fan of Recovery, it was better than Relapse but not better than previous releases. But he grinds and puts his all into a majority of what he puts out, so…eh..definitely ONE of the best but there’s a lot of other rappers I’d buy music from before his. Bad Meets Evil was cool though

  22. Cosign @JAWS

Black Thought’s the best to ever do it.

  23. Better than what Complex Magazine would have stated, eh?

  24. Recovery is one of the most overrated albums. The production and lyrics are inconsistent throughtout the entire album. Rolling Stones made numbers lie. I have a Rolling Stone subscription and I have to say since I’ve had the subsciption I’ve only liked 3 of the cover stories. Eminem is Rap’s Rocky Marciano. Great White Hype. Em is one of the best rappers in terms of albums, lyrics and impact. I just feel like white america/mainstream just wants to give him the crown. Besides pure sales can’t be the sole factor for crowning an artist. They wouldn’t do that with any other genre !

  25. LMFAO AHAHAHHAHA…. Is this just on album sales cuz it seems like it….

And @Jaws yeah Black Thought would be #2 on my GOAT list

BTW Fuck your guys’ commenting difficulties.. “Youre posting comments to quickly” ffs

  26. Where Marty and Pauly because numbers dont Lie ! Niggas been bootlegging in the past couple of years and honestly Wayne real numbers not going to show up on wikipedia so tell me why wayne got more sold out shows . so think about the people who actually buy albums and bootleg them. Not be racist but more whites support Jay Z, Kanye and Eminem. On carter 1 and 2 wayne was on some ganster shit and at that time Jay Z and Kanye was On some Commerial shit. When Wayne went commerial on rebirth that shit flopped but when Jay Z decide to do a rock album it goes platinum. What hood nigga You know will buy Jay Z vs Linkin Park album ?

  27. they based it off of album sales, likes on facebook, follows on twitter, hits on youtube, sales from their tour, charting songs, album reviews, and several other factors from the LAST TWO YEARS. that’s it. based on overall popularity since 09, of course eminem is gonna be “king of hip-hop”. there are people a lot better, and people a lot worse, but marshall is more or less the king of hip-hop today.

  28. Sad Really (*Mickey Factz voice) but I think this will be split by race.. Me being a black man and overall fan of Hip-Hop find it hard not to argue with that claim. He sells the most records (which shouldnt count) he raps better than 99% of rappers, he has an enormous fanbase and is liked by his peers! What else is there but the race thing?

  29. the sales are for 2010 only…..and eminem is the king of hip hop, in my opinion he is the best of all time his old stuff is classic and his new stuff is not as good as his old stuff but its still better than a lot of shit u hear from rappers now a days…the only reason he is different now is cuz rap has changed from when he first started so he had to go with the change or not sell good, and he is close 2 40 years old so his music is more mature…..LOOK NO RAPPER BESIDES JAY-Z HAS STAYED RELEVANT FOR OVER 10 YEARS THEY ARE THE BEST ALIVE FUCKK ALL YOUR HATING ASS GAY COMMENTS FUCK THIS WEBSITE AND FUCK STEVE HARVEY

  30. Eminem isn’t even in top 20

  31. He is talented but his success is explained mainly by its color. Sad reality of an America where most of what we do is governed by our color. The success of Eminem is a demonstration of the stupidity that plagues American society. Even when we must speak of culture, white buy white, the Chinese buy Chinese, Latinos Latino buy, etc.. A kind of reassuring local consumption ears consumer morons. At least we can recognize that Eminem has talent. Long live America.

  32. Eminem is really not that good. What makes him any better than, say, Busta Rhymes? I think Busta is an excellent rapper, and quite a bit better than Eminem, and I still wouldn’t even Busta in my Top 10.

  33. Them sales numbers dont look right at all but @Thatruth , sales aint everything cause if thats the case we would all be praising pop music way more then hip hop. Em is cool but only six solo albums in the last 12 years isnt the best record and lyrically and concept wise and as far as whole bodies of work together on albums if you really believe Em is the greatest thats crazy. Lastly Rolling Stone been saying Em is the king of hip hop every year for the last ten years. Bullshit

  34. YALL SOUND LIKE IDIOTS FOREAL… NOBODY OUT SELLING EM… CHECK!!! NOBODY IS AS LYRICAL AS EM…. CHECK!!! RECOVERY WAS CLASSIC JUST LIKE THE REST… ONLY TWO FLOPS WERE ENCORE AND RELAPSE!!! HE IS KING… AND THAT “HE WOULDN’T BE SHIT IF HE WAS BLACK”… IS BULLSHIT!! THIS DUDES LYRICS ARE INSANE IN ANY RACE!!! EMINEM IS KING!! HANDS DOWN… DO YOUR RESEARCH DUMBASSES!!!

  35. 2 flop albums outta 6 aint king shit.

  36. C’mon.. y’all know there’s millions of White kids that ONLY listen to Em, and no other hip hop artists. Race will always be a factor.. Black folks don’t listen to Em, most respect him, but we don’t bump his music. Even Em himself said he wouldn’t have sold as much if he were Black.. sad but true Amerikkka.

  37. HAHAHA WHITE BOY IS THE KING OF HIP HOP SUCK IT MOTHER FUCKERS! HATE ON IT…

  38. Hahaha…faggot haters

  39. All yall niggas… ANDD bitches cant exclude the hoes. Need to stfu and get a life. Eminem is BETTER THAN YOU if youre hating. Sold more than ANYBODY in hip hop history (including pac)

and TI is a bitch. and FUCK STEVE HARVEY

  40. Fuck Rolling Stone

  41. I dont believe in record sales thats in the system but I believe in whats get around the most, retail and bootlegging worldwide. The Majority of Eminem Numbers come from retail and the majority of that come from Whites and the Same for Jay and Ye. They shit get bootlegged the least because they not mixtapes rappers like Wayne and Gucci Mane. So Far for Eminem he definitely not the best or king of Hip Hop if he was then Busta, Cannibus, Royce 5’9 would of been mention on the same exact level and would have them number as well. Hiphop is based on image and character I Crown Tupac the King because he use it for a purpose and a mission to achieve beyond HipHop , literally he wanted to change the world.

  42. WOW was surprised to see more dislikes than likes. Do people really not think Em was the best or one of the best hip hop artists of our generation?

I’m not a huge Em fan, but gotta respect the guy. Hes one of the greatest.

  43. And @ThaTruth, Tupac been dead over a decade now.. probably not the current “king” of hip hop.

  44. King Mathers >

  45. ..weak..race dont matter but, do alot of blakc ppl buy Eminem records? jus askin cause I know alot of white kids do n think he’s the end all be all of rap (which is far from the truth). I’ll say he’s def left his mark forever on the game but lets be serious….Jay, Weezy&Yeezy, Drake annnd Curren$y (that 1 might jus b me) damn I dig sum JetLife..

  46. King of hip hop as far as what?

    Sales
    Classic Albums and songs
    Impact and influence
    Lyrical skills
    Consistency

To me its clear who the king is but what makes the king of hip hop?

  47. I am white. I do live in a house with my mom. And I do think that Shady is the best ever. Granted, records sold is not the way to determine the “King of Hip Hop,” but at the same time, no rapper can compare to Em’s complete body of work (other than Jay-Z and possibly Kanye). And if you think Jay can rival Em go listen to Renegade again. That shit is a complete joke. Now I will concede that there are a handful of rappers that can rival and/or top Shady (Black Thought, K Dot, Nas, J Cole, Royce (as seen in BME) and dare I say it, Lupe). Tha being said I think Em takes down anyone head to head on that list at the very least 6 out of 10 times.

  48. Is like Tesla vs Edison. The first invented electricity and the 2nd reaped the glory. This is similar to Eminem. A lot of rappers are better than him but through the prism of race he managed to make music that pleases the white majority. Look at Royce, his raps is diluted with pop-rock sound. Because It has targeted a white customers to sell the most records. This is a simple equation like 1 +1 = 2

  49. All you baloney mayonaise eating blue eyed forked tongue devils can eat shit and die….JT Money is the King of Hip Hop….Who Dat Who Dat Who Dat Who Dat Whoooo Who dat Who Dat Who Dat tryna get up in my crew

  50. @ Mike Z, It doesn’t matter if current or not Im talking about all time greatest and someone that made an impact beyond music. I could see its too many Eminem stans in here, I give Eminem Respect because he one of the best but he not the best and I dont think nobody will be in this generation. It alot of the same talent with those being favorite than others like the Comparison with Nas and AZ

  51. if Em was black he’d be Hopsin

  52. I’m actually happy I think behind Notorious and Pac is Em and Lauryn Hill but as far as the king shit, there are only two seats and they have been occupied by BIG and Pac already.

  53. just a title some blogger gave it to incite a riot…..riots gotta read to know what they riotting

  54. i wish old slim can meet new slim. he would be disappointed that he turned out to be a sellout fag.

  55. @ThaTruth i completely agree with what you’ve posted but I believe dudes like Reks are carrying on that same 2Pac spirit you’re speaking about. There will never be another 2Pac which I’m sure you’re aware of though when I hear Reks I hear that same passion, aggression and intellect Pac embodied.

  56. Eminem is the best pound for pound. People are just mad that their favorite rappers are out-classed,out sold and out rapped by a white boy. Better recognize!!!

  57. MEN LIE, WOMAN LIE, NUMBERS DONT!

  58. If we’re talkin sales, obviously Em wins. If you look at society, the majority of retail buyers in America, why are you surprised? I don’t like playin the race card with Em cuz dude is nice, but while brothas respect him, you’d be hard pressed to find one who bumps his isht religiously. I don’t know any at least.

Answer me this: who’s more marketable? Em or Pharoahe Monch? I’d say Monch’s skillset stacks up, but lacks Em’s charisma.

  59. In more important news….

    RED Album leaked

  60. God damn if they would have named Jay Z yall fools would have been all over it. STFU! Em worked his ass off, flowed like no other, outshined mother fuckers on there own tracks, sold millions of albums, but he’s white. FUCK HIM! Yall some fucking idiots. Kill yourselves.

  61. thas a gay ass necklace. Fuk that shit even mean?

  62. GOAT

  63. @ThaTruf It’s a necklace you nitwit. It hangs over your neck. Your dumb ass must be referring to the medallion. Who the fuck knows…….. who the fuck cares.

  64. yeah Em is dope, but this list right here needs to be trashed. em, thats all white people have lets be real when it comes to rap …. closest thing to a king in their eyes so they gonna support. let the man have the title. but we all know who the KING is …. and its not Em ?

  65. record sales are the equivlant of jersey sales in sports right? tebow sales the most in the nfl doesnt mean hes the best in the league right? big fan of em but dude had 2 good cds out and then drop relapse and recovery which were pretty wack. his fan base is large thats why he sales so much. record sales = overrated

  66. Honestly…

1.Eminem has the most sold records for a hip-hop artist in history
2.He also has the most overall records sold for a hip-hop artist
3.Slim Shady, Marshall Mathers LP, & Eminem Show are easily near classics if not classics and are on many top anything list aka all three made a list called “500 Greatest albums of ALL TIME”
    4. Even the albums some critics and fans shit on (cough encore cough relapse cough) are not only better than your favorite rapper now but they’ve both won awards. (Relapse was the best rap album of the year at the grammy’s)
    5. Lyrically, conceptually, risky, and personally EMINEM is and should be in ANYBODY’s top 10 list.
    6. He’s one of your favorite rapper’s rapper.

Most of the above is fact but some of it is opinion. I know people have different tastes but no matter what your arguing he will be in the argument. PLUS on most lists he is the favorite.
(Check Vibe’s best rapper alive and HOV went against Eminem in the championship round and lost) (Also, he was listed 3 or 2nd best rapper ever on several other lists: GOOGLE)

I don’t think numbers mean everything but how can you deny what the man has done for hip-hop. You can complain about his music now but people change, therefore their music will not stay the same. IF it does sound the same, they obviously haven’t grown or are just trying to appeal to their miniscule fan base.

Evidence: a lot of people criticize Jay-Z for still talking about hustling but when he talks about his life now (being rich) on WTT, people still complain.

Truthfully, a lot of yall don’t know what the hell yall want musically so hopefully one day those confused listeners whill stop being ignorant and actually try to understand where artist and music comes from.

    IN CONCLUSION:
Until then there will always be debate but don’t deny EM just because you never liked him or don’t like him now.

  67. Eminem is not the king

  68. are you people honestly that stupid? These numbers are obviously based on the artist’s last album otherwise Em would have like 90 million.

  69. lol the best rapper on that list is Big Boi and he is on nr20

  70. Yo check my beats. http://www.soundcloud.com/clarkKENTtheSP and follow me on twitter @OGkae

  71. I mean, Em is not my favorite artists, and I barely ever bump his shit, but you’re biased if you don’t admit he’s the King right now. Black people do buy his shit, somewhere. Break what being a rapper and entertainer in hip-hop is into different categories, and you see Em matches the competition, and if not surpasses them. I’m not gonna do that cause, frankly, I don’t give a fuck. Em is a marvel in marketing. Jimmy knew exactly what he was doing. Only person that I can think of that is marketed as good as Em is Lil Wayne.

  72. he killed it on relapse, it was the jumper cables that put him back in the mother fucking game.

  73. Even Drake is hotter then Em right now. Jay has more classic albums , Snoop has more longevity and iconic status. Nas and Common is better lyrically , Atmosphere ( Slug ) is a better white rapper , Kanye is better artistically , Wayne has been more consistent and even Lupe relates more to the pop side of things at the moment. So Em is a non mothafuckin factor.

  74. T.I and Game and Ghostface and 50 cent discography >>>> Ems albums on an artistic level.

  75. @marty
^^^ 50 Cent, T.I. and Game??? That’s some dumb shit. If you need me to explain why, well…

  76. Sales is bullshit nowdays, Dont make you the King, More kids around the globe would be into Em than any other rapper too, Nas, 50 and Lloyd Banks better than most of that list too

  77. High sales or not, but he’s KING MATHERS! I see, n1gg@s are mad now cuz the white boy’s got the crown…

  78. surely this is just a case of white people pushing white people. The media has always tried to force eminem down our throats as the best in Hip Hop/ Rap slashing whateva the fuck. I just silently disagree. not as long as Nas is fucking alive, or 2pac or ATCQ. Eminem has not brought anything different to the game other than his white flesh. Paint him a black rapper and all hell would have broken loose with his violent content. Paint him white and throw all awards and accolades at him while Kanye gets punished for being actually super talented and creative. GTFOH

  79. Jay-Z is KING. 2nd only to the Beatles (in music history) in #1 albums. Sorry to say it but Em been fell off. Look @ the sappy songs he’s doin now. I’ve been an Em fan from jump but c’Mon we all know why Rolling Stone voted him king.

  80. Em hasn’t released a good 4/5 album since the eminem show how can he be king at least jay had american gangster and proved in WTT that he didn’t fell off (if you don’t believe me just visit rapgenius) moreover if you read the criteria you will see that the article claims that Em score on metacritic is 77 but it’s in reality 66, anyway the list was lame from the start since they considered pitbull. SMH

  81. i have no respect for a list that will place nicki minaj higher than Big Boi for being “King of Hip Hop”

  82. I like the KiD CuDi is higher than Gucci Mane even though it makes no sense to put him on a hip hop list.. whole thing makes no sense anyway..

  83. “50 years from now, they’ll say Hip-Hop started with the white youth”. Who let Casper in the door cuz i would have – never

  84. When will people start giving Relapse its props? I can understand the mainstream fuckwits not messing with it but hip-hop heads should love that album – no one has EVER rapped that good.

  85. Em released 3 albums back to back that put him above Big and Pac, that was 9 years ago – some of you old heads/sheep don’t know what the fuck you’re about.

  86. Eminem is to hip hop what Avatar, The Dark Knight, & Titanic are to movies nothing more

  87. Do anyone serious hip hop heads still bump Eminem? I thought not. He makes music for middle class white kids and pop fans. He made two decent albums, the rest are garbage. His new album’s laughable.

  88. Black people do NOT bump Eminem. Yes, everybody respects his lyrical ability, but his songs are mad corny and we can’t relate to his subject matter. I’m not gonna bash him, but understand the history of pop music in the US, and how White America has always promoted a White artist doing a “Black sound”, (see Elvis and what jazz has become). It’s okay.. we expect it. Eminem is the King to White America. At the end of the day, they didn’t create this music, don’t understand the culture, so the ignorance is expected…

  89. Game and Kendrick Lamar – My City is some real nigga shit. Just had to say that. Em ain’t no king. Fuck this list. Rolling Stone fulla shit whoever cops that magazine need to kill himself real shit like cop XXL or Source but not that Pop ass magazine they don’t know shit bout hip-hop. They put SNOOKI on the cover. C’mon son.

  90. HOLY SHIT! I JUST CHOPPED MY FUCKING COCK OFF! SOMEBODY CALL ME A DOCTOR PLEASE! AHHHHHHHHHHH FUCK!! THIS HURTS!! I NEVER KNEW CHOPPING YOUR COCK OFF WOULD HURT THIS MUCH! FUUUUUUUUUCCCCKKKK!!!!

  91. Eminem is great but not King of HipHop. HipHop has no king! A king of hip hop is someone you have unstoppable influence in the culture, like how M.Jackson was the King of Pop. And if you compare it, Em is a rap guru, but his influence is low because Hip hop is so progressive. An artist influence doesnt last, for example Lil Wayne has way more influence han Em etc etc. I one point Jay, Before that Pac, etc etc. They can never be a King of Hip Hop because its to progressive

  92. Outkast

  93. good to know benzino still out there to hate on em. (aka pacisking)
but lets be honest jay runs this. em is number two. and anyone who gets upset at rolling stone, go to your nearest freeway/highway and go run into traffic. same goes for xxl, source, and vibe. when was the last time any magazine got it right. on another note, can we finally cut out Em, jay, ye, luda, tip, fat joe, rick ross, definitely dre (fuck him fuck detox), game, 50, jadakiss, and anyone from the late nineties to 05. time to start lookin at the new crop. hopefully class of ’12 freshman better than this year.

  94. All of the people bitching about “eminem only being king because he is white, white america blah blah blah” can go fuck themselves, and go back to africa if they are unhappy with what they call “white america” (but in actuality are only listening to what others said..and don’t have real arguments for such bold statements)

For every closed minded whiteboy who loves him, there’s a blackman who hates him for that same reason.

He is the king of rap…and its not even close..he is lightyears ahead in EVERY category..not close..the only other possible name that could be mentioned is jay…and still no. NOBODY puts up eminem numbers..nobody

So just deal with it..and stfu because arguing this is pointless..that’s like the yankees being named “best sports franchise ever” but people arguing that the marlins are the best “people only say the yankees are the best because they have the most WS wins, most sold out games, best jersey sales, most popular country wide, but that doesn’t matter..the marlins are the best because ______ (insert some bullshit answer..don’t matter what it is…its just gonna be some kind of hate on NY, and the fact that the facts don’t lie..no team is close to the yankees)

Just like arguing eminem is the king is pointless…no denying facts..its not close. Eminem is king of rap music

  95. put eminem best album agaisnt jay-z best album jay-z wins reasonble doubt is consi9dered by alot the greatest album ever and kinf of hiphop? no hiphop is more then rap its how you act dress dance grafitti its a culture i dont see any people wanting dress like eminem or act like him i see jay-z changes how people dress jay-z is the one that made every nigga stop wearing jerseys and wear expensive brands of clothes you can argue kinf of m.cing or rap but dont say hiphop as a whole because honestly eminem has a bigger adavandatge there more white people in the u.s they relate to emeinem way more white people dont realte to growing up in the projects and all that crim and shit but they do sure relatte to hitting there moms cursing at there moms and doing drugs and all that and alot of emienm fans havent even heard any other rap besides eminem EMINEM has never beefed with a hiphop heavy wieght jay-z vs nas biggie vs pac kool moe dee vs ll cool j ,krs one vs mc chan etc who has emeinem go agaisnt benzino?n sync? nick cannon? brittany spears? fred durst? kid rock? all the greatest have put there career on the line vs another heavy wieght and nigga kill me saying em is better then jay-z because of one song shut up with that niggaz call jay-z a pop artist because of empire state of mind? but eminem gets a pass for that song with rhianna and that sing with bruno mars wtf

  96. *CRINGE* another mag using the word hip-hop.

Hip hop is KRS-One, Talib Kweli, Lyricist Lounge, C-Rayz Walz, putting flyers up for your own shows then working the merch table after so you can meet your fans. Organizing events for other hip hop artists. Gucci Mane, Minaj, Pitbull???

RAP. RAP is the product of a table full of suits analyzing market trends to determine what kids at the mall will be buying next year. “Lady Gaga is over the top? Let’s find and release the black rapping version! Kanye West raps and sing!? Let’s put out this dude named Drake!”

Y’all retards are to ignorant to even look at what you’re consuming.

  97. cant hate on eminem most def a legend… most def in the top 10 .. top 5 is debatable tho… the only problem with this list that its based on SALES … and sales alone doesnt determine the KING OF HIP HOP.. im sure they could of said “most successful rapper or this year” or some shit…

  98. Upset my ass… Arcade Fire’s album was LEAGUES better than SHITTY Recovery.

I’m still laughing my ass off… Wayne killed Hov & Ye and Drizzy ain’t too far behind from joining him. LOL

  99. Men Lie Women Lie Numbers Don’t! The evidence is right there, no point for disagreements or arguments. How you gonna argue with facts shown in front of your face

  100. WHO CARES???

THE REAL THING PEOPLE WANNA KNOW IS WHOSE HAS THE BIGGEST COCK IN HIP-HOP!!

    THAT’S A REAL TOPIC!!

I GOT MY MONEY ON JAY-Z TO WIN THAT!

I JUST KNOW HE’S GOT A FAT ASS BIG ASS COCK!

HOLY JEEZ, I WANNA SUCK IT!!

    AND I’M A MAAAAANNNNNNNN!!!

  101. Pretty sure this is ranking each artist’s best selling album. That’s the only way the chart makes sense.

  102. nfinite (1996)
    The Slim Shady LP (1999)
    The Marshall Mathers LP (2000)
    The Eminem Show (2002)
    Encore (2004)
    Relapse (2009)
    Recovery (2010)

Ems best album material: 1999 – 2002 IMO

    1996: Reasonable Doubt
1997: In My Lifetime, Vol. 1
1998: Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life
1999: Vol. 3… Life and Times of S. Carter
2000: The Dynasty: Roc La Familia
    2001: The Blueprint
2002: The Blueprint2: The Gift & The Curse
    2003: The Black Album
    2006: Kingdom Come
    2007: American Gangster
    2009: The Blueprint 3

Jayz best album material: 1996 – 2011 cause just last week WTT was very much so the top subject in hip hop around the world. Sales is the only thing Em is the best at and we all know why cause if Mac Miller singed to dr dre the same thing would happen and thats big sales. Jayz wins in every other aspect of being King MC cause even in sales Jay is one of the best.

  103. there is an extreme difference between mac miller and eminem. if mac signed with dre his sales wouldn’t be as good as ems. but its not even about the sales, dre signs dudes who have insane talent. and eminem had that. still has it but its not like it once was. eminem is not only a master of flow, but lyrically he is untouchable. even on relapse, tho he was spitting fucked up shit his flow and delivery was crazy good. and look at renegade, the song the two did together, eminem blows jay out of the water. jays verses on that song are really good, but em fucking blows his shit out of this world. em straight killed jay. blue print 3 was wack. aside from reasonable doubt the blue print and the black album jay hasn’t had an amazing album. infinite thru the eminem show were all amazing.

  104. Em did not blow Jay out the water when Jays subject matter had more importance on Renegade. Em was talking about the struggle of being rich and famous but misunderstood. Jay was talking about the struggle of being broke and not famous and misunderstood. Em has never killed Jay at anything musically or lyrically so be serious. Infinite cant fuck with Reasonable Doubt , Slim Shady was dope but so was each volume of Hard Knock Life. The rest of Ems albums if you take away the hype can not fuck with Jays albums lyrically or musically. Flipping multiple syllables in rhymes does not mean that the substance and meaning of whats being said is the best and Jay can rhyme the same amount of times with the same syllables.

  105. theres nothing more i hate when people compare whos the greatest with album sales. Jay should take the #1 spot easy!

  106. Look at Snoop Doggs discography compared to Ems then Nas then Busta Rhymes…. Cmonson. Em is dope but the only thing to use to argue for him is sales. Theres alot of other artist that can smash his albums.

  107. LMFAO! What a joke Em is whack as fuck now. He’s the king of fallin’ off

  108. I guess nothing can ever be right unless Jay-Z is number one when it comes to hip hop, honestly, looking at the list above me the only thing I’m really seeing from Jay is longevity. Jay-Z is like an NBA center, lets go with Shaq. Shaq is ONE of the best centers in the game but he is not the greatest because he was not the only great center. You have Hakeem who is the all time leader in blocks, kareem all time leader in points, Wilt the only nigga to score 100 in a professional game and Bill Russell the champ of all champions with 11 rings. So you can’t just call somebody the best ever in this genre when Notorious, Big L, Pac, Andre 3000, Bun B, Lauryn Hill, Nas and Em( just to say a few) are greats also. People got to chill on the best ever shit because to say the least it’s kind of a slap in the face to the other legends.

  109. I think this needs to be said. When you say “most of the people buying eminem’s albums are white anyway” you are being prejudiced. How is a white person buying a Hip Hop album any less relevant than a black person. You might say “it’s just little suburban kids trying to be cool” and I would respond “does that mean that little black urban kids trying to be cool don’t count either then, and if you cut them out that’s a huge chunk of an artist’s sales as well.” Let the race thing go, I’m black btw, I just want people in general to stop being stupid and the black people I know to stop being racist and at the same time somehow wanting the white people you insult to not be racist toward you.
K…oh and Eminem is one of the best, and if you disagree you are just trying to be “cool” and different, which is ok. Hip Hop is about spilling your heart, everything you’ve been through and your take on society on a cool beat while having a little fun doing it, tell me Eminem hasn’t shown us every side of him through his music? I mean literally that is the point of his first three major albums, but anyway that’s my opinion, stop being racists folks.

  110. Ignoring race when you bring up Em is stupid to me cause its not being real. We can all act like race doesnt matter with Ems sales numbers but you know thats bullshit. Theres a large portion of Em fans that have never liked any black person their whole life and dont own any other hip hop albums but the ones from Em. Yes their are fans of Em from all races and yes some of his fans are white and listen to all the different type of rap artists but millions of Em fans dont even like rap music , they only buy rock n roll and pop music and Em is the only hip hop they listen too.

  111. numbers don’t determine the best, just the most popular, that is all

  112. I’m gonna say the same thing I said on HHDX. The only people that are debating this shit are closet racists (marty mcfly), people who were or had parents/grandparents of Black Panthers, or you just don’t like Em.

Now, I’m not gonna go into full rant mode with this topic yet, cuz i’m at work. But I’m gonna say for now that Em is the CURRENT King of Hip Hop and Rolling Stone said nothing about Greatest Of All Time. If they did, they would have included Pac and Biggie, along with Rakim.

People, stop being racist towards every white artist in the damned country, get off your damned computer, and experience life! Because, you would see that a LOT of blacks bump Em and they all think he’s a talented emcee.

  113. Black people being racists against white people? The concept of that notion just started maybe a year ago so I wouldnt bet on that being the case when people like me say Ems race played a big part in his sales because when Em came out there was no other white rapper in the mainstream. He cant be the CURRENT king of hip hop when his last album came out last year because current means now or this year.

  114. @Marty Mcfly you must love yo self some Jay-Z because whenever his name is brought up you come with your research, argument, if need be bulletproof vest, armor and ninja sword to an argument. Niggas act like he is invincible and think that he is the best thing since hip hop was originated. Also the “Theres a large portion of Em fans that have never liked any black person their whole life and dont own any other hip hop albums but the ones from Em. ” was the dumbest comment I have heard thus far. Dog I bet you would be willing to swallow his shaved pubs in exchange for an opportunity to shake his hand. It’s ok man don’t shoot down everything to try to support your man crush on someone that’s not all great as you try to make him. Don’t shit on Em and his fans for your love with this guy, LOL stop it MCFLY

  115. @WOW , you can sound gay all you want with your homo thoughts but I named about 7 other MCs in comparison to Em that arent Jayz. What I said was true but you just made , you think Ems Garth brooks type numbers come just from real lovers of hip hop? Your an idiot , you think white folks from middle america that were teenagers when Em came out and can probably count on one hand the number of black people they know are into Wu tang like they were Ems music. GTFOH

  116. Most of Garth Brooks albums went diamond (10 million ) or double diamond and I doubt hip hop fans were involved with that.

  117. @ Mcfly dude if your just a “Hip-Hop” lover you wouldn’t know shit about music because your closed minded. Why do you think alot of these rappers are venturing out into other genres like Ye with Adam Levine and Jay with Sade, so you can keep that none sense. And white folks know about hip hop, who the fuck do you think fills up the concerts and buys the majority of the albums. It’s not alot of African Americans, it’s the whites from the suburbs. Of course Em would get a little more love from the whites because he is one but my point is don’t shit on him and try to put Jay as number one because of that extra boost in sales from the whites. And believe it or not they support Jay-Z to just because you don’t actually see it. Every nigga got the answer to every problem.

  118. “Theres a large portion of Em fans that have never liked any black person their whole life”

There you go again with the racial stereotypes, mcfly. And you’re making it seem like black people cannot be racist. The term “white cracker” ring a bell? You make your opinions from your own front porch and not on actually going beyond your hood. Any kind of person is capable of racism. Blacks are, whites are, hispanics, anyone. Stop looking at race, you internet thug, and start looking at skills.

  119. @WOW so by your last comment then your saying the same thing im saying and by stating what is the truth , thats not shitting on EM. Its just the truth , im not talking about white folks that support hip hop. Im talking about the millions of them who do not but still support just EM. Those people have never even took the time too try to listen to Jayz or Nas or any other dope artist.

  120. ^^^It’s as if he doesn’t understand that what he is saying is racist. He literally just said that the majority of Ems fans only buys his shit and keeps it moving with all other acts in Hip Hop, that their is bullshit. Because it’s all racial groups who support the hip hop movement and in those same groups people could give a shit about Em and hip hop in general.

  121. @Mcfly How did I just agree with you? I’m lost I basically stated that the genres artist are merging because it’s hard to be based solely as one genre.

  122. @WOW , when did I use the word MAJORITY? So dont just ay anything. Just look at his sales numbers now does it look like im bullshitting or not? If Em sold more the Jayz but Jay has double the amount of albums out , do you think Em fans are just hip hop fans? Of course not and do you think there is a “large portion” of EM fans who only support him and maybe one other hip hop artist total in their collection of music? Of course because thats the reality and his sales numbers are showing you that.

  123. Everyone, I feel that we should honestly ignore “marty mcfly”. His points are crap, his perspective is narrowed, and he obviously has some kind of racist beef with people that aren’t black.

  124. Lol Mcfly you dumb homie

  125. @ EVERYBODY, just like I said previously . Its alot of Rappers with similar and the Same DAMN TALENT it just those being favorite more than others. Imagine if Eminem didnt exist and Busta, Cannibus, or Royce 5’9 sign to Aftermath and decide to talk about some crazy shit like Eminem , They wont be famous like Eminem and tell me WHY ?

  126. I vote for Em in this case, he would body Jay anyday of the week

  127. ^ fake ass meka GTFOH

  128. @Pauly Dee you always bring up this racist shit when im just telling the truth. Em would even find it hard to say im wrong cause the fact is that alot of Em fans in his early career were rock n roll fans , country music fans and pop music fans and they werent ALL big hip hop fans. Does Em have millions of hip hop fans that dont even care about race? Yes but he also has millions of fans who dont support hip hop expect his music. Now by just saying what has always been said about Ems sales and the main reason people put Em over others , thats being racist? I dont think so. Now what I said about a portion of Ems fans , in regards to black people and the hip hop culture mite have sounded harsh but if we gonna keep this shit 100 then you know im telling the truth.

  129. everyone I apologize, I’m just talking. I know how good Em is he is the best rapper alive and active. I just say Jay-Z name so many times because I want to fit in the arguement, Sorry for the inconvience.

  130. @Meka, Kanye, Nicki Minaj , Nas and even Beanie Sigel already bodied Jay Z . Eminem is like the better vision of Papoose because they very good with Syllables. What Do Eminem Rap about ? I guess America like the Fuck up mind Eminem has. Eminem is Suicidal Cartoon Character that target pop Stars like THE GAME with rappers and a person that was on Drugs and didnt like his mom and it so happens that America is Fuck up because They Love him for it. Eminem could of been less of a Lyricist and people would still love him because of his IMAGE/WHITE and For The CRAZY SHIT HE TALK ABOUT. Eminem dont care about YOU the nigga never made a inspirational song until The RECOVERY. IT NOT ALL ABOUT LYRICS. ITS DEEPER THAN RAP (RICK ROSS VOICE) Real recognize Real

  131. “*CRINGE* another mag using the word hip-hop.

Y’all retards are to ignorant to even look at what you’re consuming.”

    co-sign

Its funny how these morons talk semantics and totally miss the point.

  132. “Theres a large portion of Em fans that have never liked any black person their whole life” is an example of your closet racism. Your kind of people are the same people that are delaying and holding back our culture. Not all white people are “devils”. Not all blacks are “innocent”.

” Does Em have millions of hip hop fans that dont even care about race? Yes but he also has millions of fans who dont support hip hop expect his music.”

The second part is true, but that’s not saying much because most black people barely buy albums anymore. You can even say that more whites buy Jay’s music than blacks.

And really, it wouldn’t even be a problem if you guys gave Em the RESPECT he deserves.

  133. “the nigga never made a inspirational song until The RECOVERY.”

If you’ve actually listened to his discography, you would know that that statement is complete bull. Sing for the Moment and Lose Yourself much? Till I Collapse much? Check your facts, guy.

  134. Troll alert – obviously a few comment up , but people always talking about whos the best. Then when I say I think its Jayz people either compare him to hip hop legends thats been dead for more then ten years or a artist that hasnt had a hot song or album out for the last 3 or 4 years and they completely leave Snoop out the conversation ( one of the last MCs that can honestly compete with Jay ) and go right to Em because of sales. All that type of shit is bullshit and im just telling it like it is. And if your saying that white people buy more rap music then blacks well I agree with that so whats your point? Cause theres alot of Em fans that say he’s the best but if you ask them about Hip hop artists that were out before Em they cant tell you shit about them.

  135. Let’s take race out of the equation for a sec. The dude had one (Marshall Mathers lp), MAYBE 2 classic albums out of how many?

The rest was a mix of sometimes brilliant, more often stupid, cheesy songs about dissing pop artists, killing his mother & baby mother, making poop & fart jokes, & whole heap of fuckery.

His catalogue does not justify him being the King of anything except hype.

  136. Snoop Dogg is one of the only MCs that can compete with Jay? Are you serious? Jesus man, you’re more warped in the head then I thought.

  137. @ Pauly , All them songs was about Him and the music business and not You so read again what I said. and let me correct myself IM NOT AFRAID was a inspirational song for himself and not you.

  138. and When I say Snoop is one of the few who can compete with Jayz. What I mean by that is , what Snoop is lacking lyrically in comparison to Jay , he makes up for in longevity because Snoop was out 3 years before Jay and was already a respected mainstream artist. Do your homework Pauly…

  139. and lyrically Snoop is nice just listen to a WHOLE album not just his singles. Also before people bring up Andre 3k just remember that OutKast is a group not a solo artist and Andre only made one album as a soloist. Em sold more records but only six albums is not really smashing on Jayz albums which more then double that amount. So lets be honest who is really the king of this shit? Probably one half of the group thats been saying Watch the Throne this year.

  140. @Aintnobest, Probably the best shit I had heard out this whole C session. Everybody else comments need to be erased and just post your shit.

His catalogue does not justify him being the King of anything except hype

  141. @marty

Snoop is a good emcee and obviously one of the GOATS, but just because an artist has been out longer doesn’t mean that they have more skills than others. Look at Too Short.

    @ThaTruth

    Not Afraid hook:

“I’m not afraid. To take a stand. EVERYBODY, come take my hand. WE’LL walk this road TOGETHER through the storm, what ever weather. Cold or warm. Just lettin’ you know that, you’re NOT ALONE. HOLLA IF YOU FEEL THAT YOU’VE BEEN DOWN THE SAME ROAD. ”

    Sing for the Moment:

“It’s why we sing for these kids that don’t have a thing Except for a dream and a fuckin’ rap magazine Who post pinup pictures on their walls all day long Idolize their favorite rappers and know all they songs Or for anyone who’s ever been through shit in they lives So they sit and they cry at night wishin’ they die Till they throw on a rap record and they sit and they vibe We’re nothin’ to you but we’re the fuckin’ shit in their eyes That’s why we seize the moment and try to freeze it and own it Squeeze it and hold it ‘cos we consider these minutes golden And maybe they’ll admit it when we’re gone Just let our spirits live on through out lyrics that you hear in our songs And we can.”

    Till I Collapse:

“Till the roof comes off, till the lights go out
Till my legs give out, can’t shut my mouth
Till the smoke clears out and my high wear out
I’ma rip this shit till my bone collapse”

    Lose Yourself:

“Look, if you had, one shot, or one opportunity To seize everything you ever wanted, one moment Would you capture it? Or just let it slip” (Just actually LISTEN to the song)

  142. @Pauly just believe what you want but dont compare Em to Snoop cause believe me he has more then enough material to compete on any level of skills you wanna take it too. He had classic albums out before Em and has put out albums after Ems last album and that takes lyrical skills to do that homie.

  143. sales dont matter over rated rappers on that chart lol mainstream hip hop is a joke

  144. Ask yourself, can Snoop compare to Em lyrically nowadays? How about Kanye? Jay and 3k? (Debatable)

And this article has nothing to do with lyrics or any of that. The article is about popularity and, if we’re being real, Em is more popular than all of the people in Hip Hop combined.

  145. Em is not the most popular , he just sales the most an theres a difference. 2pac , Snoop and Jayz are just as popular around the globe as Em.

  146. “Look, if you had, one shot, or one opportunity To seize everything you ever wanted, one moment Would you capture it? Or just let it slip.”

Oh look, a double negative. Did you even read the article and look at his Youtube views, Facebook likes, etc?

Em is more popular than Pac, Snoop and Jay, in this day and age. I’m not saying that those three aren’t talented, because they are. But you yourself said that Em is known and is listened to by people who listen mainly to other Genres.

  147. Yeah I said that but that doesnt mean that those same people never heard the names 2pac and Snoop before. They just dont buy they’re music but they still know who they are and that means they have some form of “popularity” in that region. Theres only one planet earth and Snoop , Jay , Pac and Em have been all over it. So being the most popular is a matter of opinion.

  148. But being “popular” isn’t..so.

  149. THE ONLY THING I SEE WHEN I SEE EMINEM IS THAT “HI, MY NAME IS..” GIMMIC SONG

  150. Em’s old shit > Em’s new ish

  151. who knows what that triangle represents around his neck?

http://www.2dopeboyz.com/category/downloads/ is stuck on Aug 6th for me. It’s how I get my music without having to read everything else. Anybody else have this problem?

  152. @JKelly – It’s called a Sobriety Necklace, google it to find more info. I think he wore it to the Grammy’s.

Also, as for Em being king of Hip Hop, I think if he really wanted to, he could make songs like his oldself and prob just changed for the better. He’s trying to set a better example for Hailie seeing as how much he loves her.

  153. You black people wake up, you need first of all to point out all the important points and most importantly the the truths. First of all Hiphop and rap was created by black people who grew up in the projects, in America, they were expressing the hardships they were going through, through hiphop. Black introducde Hiphop to the world and indeed the white race. White people like EM&M gets hooked by Hiphop and decides to become a hiphop singer, taking black people’s genre of music and adopting it as his own, and the The Rolling Stone who are all white people, being very bias and crown a white man as King of hiphop should be an insult to black people. And remember all white people the world over and not just American are all hooked on rap music and the point blank truth the white people in America and the western world outnumber black people so the mass white society buy rap music, they buy EM&M music, so narrow minded, they forget that the rap music they love was created by the black people they hate and yet they will buy it from a white person who did not even mastermind its creation. You should be ashamed of yourselves, buy music created by the people you hate and yet when sang by a white person makes it okay for to listen to it. Reflect on how small minded your brains operate.

  154. He got too much praise for his Recovery Album and now he sounds like the rest of the competition which he used to have his own kind of flow that made him so unique. Em was one of my favs n grew up listening to back in the day but he’s fell off over the yrs I don’t agree he’s the king of Hip Hop because to be honest noone is because the game has changed cause of garbage ass artists like Lil B n Soulja Boy plus people nowadays r too lazy to listen to lyrics n the content of the songs. Shits sad….

  155. now…we all know nas is the king of hip hop.

  156. On popularity, there’s no doubt. Eminem is the most popular rap artist present and past.
Does that make him the best ? I guess not. There’s millions of people in this world doing that form of art, so who is anybody of us to say eminem is the best when you haven’t heard everybody else ?
My iphone might count a lot of eminem songs for the fact he has a lot of them, but overall my most played aren’t his.
That’s the beautiful thing about blogs like this: because of them you get to know less POPULAR songs, BUT are they therefore less GENIUS ? No, they aren’t.

So popularity wise, eminem is the best, no doubt about that.
But the best in the art form ? I don’t know man, you got lots of hungry young emcees who are gifted as well.

So popularity has nothing to do with quality.

Although you can’t deny eminem is a great lyricist and storyteller.
And I do know he doesn’t have the anger, the ambition, the deep lyrics from back in the day.
But ask yourself the question: would pac and biggie still have if they were still alive ? I am pretty sure they wouldn’t.
It’s a fact you can’t sounds hungry anymore when you made it (look at 50 for that one, that nigger only be making gay pop anthems but power of the dollar was the dopest thing of that time).

So Eminem and pac fans, get at me, I don’t care.
I respect both, but I ain’t no dickrider like y’all.
It’s no shame to say both have made A LOT OF GARBAGE, but they are still popular.

  157. I laugh when everyone says Eminem can’t relate to the culture. Bull shit. Stop looking at his skin color for one second, and look where he came from, he grew up with Hip Hop, he live in Detroit and spent a majority of his time on the BLACK side of town. Seriously. He knows the culture. Now a days he does release more main stream music but hell, he raps about how he feels and is doing his own thing, and lyrically, the dude is one of the best of all time. Every single list of top 10 rappers would have his name in it. And honestly, my opinion, and everyone other fan’s opinion in this whole post doesn’t matter one bit! Because he is looked at as one of the greatest by his fellow rappers that are on top. People stop being so damn biased and just accept the fact that he’s on top.
