  40. Kendrick Lamar = New 2Pac
    J. Cole = New Nas
    Drake = New Jay-Z
    Big Sean = New Biggie
Tyler The Creator = New Eminem
Hip Hop Is Better Than Ever Right Now

  41. KENDRICK LAMAR THROWBACK FREESTYLE CLIP -> http://t.co/Rid6PAx

  42. tyson- you fuckin trippin dog drake is nothing compared to jay z
biggie would slap the fuckin face off your head if he could and tyler’s garbage, not even close to relapse which was ems worst cd

  43. @Tyson you need to slap yourself for comparing all these new rappers to all of those greats. I think the worst comparison is Big Sean tho hahaha

  44. @Tyson Big Sean = Biggie?? Really Drake is Jay now? Stop listening to those dudes for a while and do your research, you will hear the differences real quick

  45. @Tyson Big Sean = Biggie?? Really Drake is Jay now? Stop listening to those dudes for a while and do your research, you will hear the differences real quick. Kendrick is my favorite new MC along w/ Cole but the last 3 don’t bring much to the table IMO

  46. Oh yea, get that Vakill Armor of God for a non stop close to classic LP

  47. Kendrick Lamar is the greatest of all time!!!!!!! If you can’t respect that your whole prospective is wack! (Ha see what I did there)

  48. Fuck All Yall Hatin’ On My Opinion !! I Listen To Immortal Technique, Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Jay Electronica, Lupe Fiasco, So Don’t You Tell Me I Don’t know Hip Hop, I’m Not Sayin’ All These Young Rappers Are On The Same Level As The Older Ones But They’re Definitely Their 2011 Replacements, And Actually Biggie Was Losing His Mic Skills, You Can Clearly Notice That In life After Death, As For Big Sean, Lyrically He Can Be Great If he Wants, Have Y’all Listened To The First Volume Of Finally Famous?

  49. ^^^ Biggie was losing his mic skills? Life after Death was a double cd you clown. Dont ever put finally famous in the same sentence with Life after Death. Your whole comparison list is stupid.

  50. ^^^
Ready To Die Shits On Life After Death At Everything, For Me It’s A Big Fall For Biggie’s Skills, As I Asked Before, Have You Listened To The First Volume Of Finally Famous? The First One? Stupid Ass Niggas

  51. And To You That Are Saying Tyler Is Wack, Kanye, Lupe, Eminem, Royce, Pusha T & Jay-Z Disagree With You About That, Just Listen To The New Track With Pusha T & You Will Lnow How Lyrical He Can Be

  52. Just be quite cause you comparing niggas to legends. The rappers you named had to put out 3+ mixtapes and a album ( 4 albums ) just to get the little buzz they have. The legends you speaking on dropped classic shit fresh out the gate and made it to a level alot higher then any of these new cats. Biggies last album was dope front to back and was actually more lyrically intricate. The reason why his delivery changed is because he recorded the album sitting down because he was recovering from a car accident. Hes still way better then whatever finally famous shit you talking about. Yeah I heard finally famous 1 , and? Just because rappers in the game cosign Tyler and these little niggas doesnt mean shit cause I think for myself and the vets are always gonna cosign the new niggas if their asked about them because thats just keeping it G by not shitting on them.

  53. They Drop Mixtapes Because The Industry Has Changed, You Can’t Do It The Same Ways The Older legends Did It Nowadays, Learn About The 2011 Music Industry, Kanye Wasn’t Even Asked About Tyler He Tweeted Himself That Yonkers Was The Best Video Of 2011, Lupe & Pusha T Worked With Him While Jay-Z Wanted To Sign Him But Odd Future Said No To Keep Their Artistic Creativity, But At The End That’s Just An Opinion, People Will Agree Or Disagree, I Don’t Give A Fuck

  54. You can blame the industry if you want , which I cant agree or disagree with but lyrically its a BIG difference between whats being said in rap now vs the depth of what was being said back then by the greats. Jayz wanted sign Tyler so he can make more money off him , simple as that. You think Jayz is really impressed lyrically by anybody other then maybe Jay Electronica? Please , People still trying to figure out what Reasonable Doubt was about. These new rappers got their own lane but other then Drake I have yet to see much comparison.

  55. Nas wrote and recorded everything on Illmatic at the ages 17-19..J. Cole has never spit anything near the level of that and hes like 25 years old..Cole World will not be another Illmatic, J. Cole is nowhere near Nas’s level..STOP that comparison

  56. Have You Listened To Tyler’s Albums Bastard & Goblin? You Can’t Tell Me They Aren’t Lyrical, All Critics Will Disagree With You About That, The Come Up Is Lyrically Illmatic, Because Illmatic Is Older Doesn’t Mean It’s Better, Just Wait To See The Cole & Kendrick Project & You’ll See What I Mean When I Say They’re Going To Become One Day On The Same Level As Nas & 2Pac, Time Will Prove My Point

  57. And the rappers you named have their own things that the greats did not have like:

    Kendricks versatility
J coles produces his own beats
    Drake can sing
Big Sean Supa Dupa rhyme scheme
Tyler eats roaches and dresses like a weirdo

But what im speaking on is lyrical content and that has not elevated with this new school of MCs. No dis but its the truth. IMO

  58. And stop saying wait till this or that album drops and youll see that its so lyrical. Judge whats out right now cause all that future shit is not even available for discussion.

  59. Makaveli > Everyone

  60. Tyson you need to smack yourself if you think The Warm Up is lyrically Illmatic..I dont care when it was made, read the lyrics to Memory Lane and NY State Of Mind off of Illmatic then compare them to lyrics of every track on Warm Up…no song on Warm Up has the quantity or quality of wisdom, imagery, metaphors, knowledge, entendres, and wordplay as those 2 songs alone..im just going to leave this alone and conclude you listen to alot of hip hop but just dont understand the amount of skill, lyricism, artistry and technical aspects that go into it…Illmatic & It Was Written > anything J. Cole has ever made

  61. I Said The Come Up, Can’t You Read Ignorant Fool

  62. Enough With All That Talk I Respect Jay-Z, Biggie, Pac, Nas, Eminem, Kendrick, Cole, Drake, Big Sean & Tyler. I Think They’re Are All Great Hip Hop Artists & The Younger Ones Will Have Great Future, Now Please Everybody Shut The Fuck Up !!

  63. Agree Or Disagree That’s The Case, We As Black Men Should Have A Better Way To Make A Conversation, For Fuck’s Sake It’s Just An Opinion, It’s Just Music, Grow The Fuck Up

  64. Heres what it is , all the new artists you named are dope. Thats not the issue , the problem is you comparing them to the legends when their not comparable based on whatever reason being the industry or the lyrical content or delivery or amount of time in the game. Before you compare the names you did , give it 5 more years and we’ll see because you picked legends when you could have been comparing them to somebody from the 2000s era of rap. Compare Kendrick to Ras Kass before you jump straight to Pac. Compare Cole to Black Thought before you jump to Nas. Compare Drake to Phonte before Jayz. Big Sean aint the next Biggie if he aint even the next Mase or Fabolous. Tyler aint the next Em when he aint even the next Luda. See what I mean?

  65. somebody please give me 1 or 2 songs by any member of TDE that might change my opinion. i honestly cant see what the hype is about. 1 or 2 tho son dont give me a whole album. be specific

  66. Co-Sign @Tyson

If Marty McFly and the rest of you read his comments you would notice that he said “I’m Not Sayin’ All These Young Rappers Are On The Same Level As The Older Ones”. If you dont understand his point then i dont know what to say. All hes saying is that theres similarities between them (Eminem and Tyler say whatever they want and dont give a fuck)

  67. LMAO @”Compare Cole to Black Thought before you jump to Nas” Like Black Thought isnt a legend like the rest of the artists you said he shouldnt be comparing to.

  68. It’s Not A Sin To Compare Them To The Older Ones, Is It? I’m Just Comparing Them Cuz I Believe They’re Their Future Replacements Whether You Like Them Or Not It’s A Fact, They’re Doin’ It Big Right Now, Not Comparing Them To Each Other By Discographies, I Believe Biggie Is Better Than Big Sean, But I See Similarities Between Both Of Them, Big Sean Is The New Biggie For The New Hip Hop Era. Plus, I Can Compare Kendrick To Pac At Anytime Cuz Lyrically, Section.80, Overly Dedicated & Kendrick Lamar EP Are Definitely Better Than Anything Pac Had Ever Put Out & I’m A Big Pac Fan But When It Comes To Lyrics He Is So Not Touching Kendrick, Your Favourite Rappers Are Not Gods, I Can Say Whatever I Want About Them, Freedom Of Speech, You So-Called Hip Hop Heads

  69. @ATLien

    Ignorance is Bliss- Kendrick Lamar
    Watchout for Detox- Kendrick Lamar
    Drift Away- AB-Soul
    Turn Me Up- AB-Soul
    Evil- Schoolboy Q
    #BETIGOTSUMWEED- Schoolboy Q

I don’t have anything for Jay Rock though, I only listen if he’s a feature.

  70. @Chicago, Finally Somebody Talking With Some Sense & Understands What I’m Sayin’

  71. I don’t see how they’re replacements at all. I really don’t see the Drake or Big Sean comparisons. I’ve been listening to Big Sean’s FF album non-stop since I bought it but seriously how the fuck is he Biggie? Because his name is BIG Sean?

I’m a bit lost on your thought process.

  72. @Tyson my fault on the misread The Come Up isnt even lyrically on The Warm Ups level so it definitely aint lyrically on Illmatics..and if J. Cole is Nas’s replacement then hip hop and its standards have seriously fell off..and this is coming from a J. Cole fan..hes not even anywhere near the most skilled lyricist of this generation, he just spits humble lyricism that are down to earth and relatable (thats when hes not spitting about how hes the chosen one like he does alot lately)

  73. It’s Definitely Not Cuz Of The BIG, I See It How I See It, It’s Just My Opinion, Agree Or Disagree That’s Your Own Opinion & I Don’t Give A Shit About It smh

  74. Kendrick Lamar = New 2Pac
-West Coast, story telling (Brenda’s Got a Baby, Keisha’s Song)
    J. Cole = New Nas
-Story Telling, lyrically can destroy a beat, intelligent.
    Drake = New Jay-Z
    -Materialistic, Braggadocio
    Big Sean = New Biggie
    -Laid back party music
Tyler The Creator = New Eminem
-Say what they want when they want, nothings off limits

I dont know, thats what im guessing he meant and i can see where hes coming from if thats it. No ones saying theyre all exactly the same but i can see how you could make that comparison if you’re trying to compare whos blowing up now to who was blowing up then.

  75. @Chicago, Exactly !!

  76. @tyson

In other words, the industry is so stale that even when they bring in new blood, all the major labels can think of to push at us are cheap imitations of what’s already worked. Greeeaaaaat. I’ll hold out hope for somebody original, thanks.

  77. @Th3rd ear
The Warm Up More Lyrical Than The Come Up? You’ve Lost Credibility, But After All You Can Just “Don’t Give A Fuck About Me”, Everybody Has His Own Opinions, That’s Your Lesson For The Day

  78. @Iron Eagle, They Are All Original But They’re Clearly Influenced, Everybody Is

  79. @tyson

As I said, nothing but cheap imitations.

  80. @Tyson , Big Sean is not the next Biggie and Kendrick is not the next Pac because all these rappers have completely different perspectives and backgrounds. You think Kendrick is better then Pac because of some fancy wordplay and the speed of his flow but I think Pac has better content and more specific subject matter. Pac and Big also rapped from the perspective of the aggressor from the scenario of street violence. Kendrick and Sean do not , Pac called himself a thug , Kendrick does not , Section 80 is not Me Against The World. Big wrote ten crack commandments , Sean was never in the drug game. Bigs music can also be violent , Seans is not. These things put the perspectives in different places. @Chicago , correct most people dont consider Black Thought a legend but you get my point. Compare Cole to Kanye before you talk Jayz.

  81. So then Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller, Chiddy Bang, The Niceguys, Outasight, Pac Div, and XV are also like Biggie?

Yeah, I’m gonna have to call bullshit.

Big Sean, really good (at least in my opinion, he makes fun music) but he’s not Biggie. I can’t imagine finding any hip hop heads that would agree with you.

  82. @marty mcfly, You Just Don’t Get It, I’m Out

  83. @red, Fuck Hip Hop Heads, Hip Hop Has No Limits, I’m Done With That Shit

  84. J. Cole isnt really intelligent hes just relatable and socially conscious..u can learn life lessons (wisdom) listening to Nas, not Cole and Come Up was more raw and had more bragging raps than Warm Up but Warm Up was more lyrical..Nas can tell stories metaphorically (I Gave You Power) and backwards (“Rewind”) unlike Cole…the new Nas would be Lupe and he can rap circles around Cole, Drake and Big Sean with his mouth closed…and Kendrick..but he really has to be on his game for that….want to talk about lyricism? Elzhi’s new tape Elmatic >> The Come Up, The Warm Up and Friday Night Lights

  85. @Tyson so did the rappers I list compare to Biggie? I think your diction and the way you presented your comparisons is what killed you.

Is Big Sean the new party music? Yes. Was Biggie party music. Yes. Are they similar? On a level deeper than “party music” I’d say absolutely not. Subject matter, flow, song structure, instrumentals, and culturally they’re much different.

  86. @Red

Thats cool, no one has to agree with me, its my opinion not a fact. but im also not saying Big Sean is Biggie. I’m saying i can see a SMALL resemblance. I’m not the one who made the comparison but i can see where hes coming from.

    @Marty McFly

I disagree. I think most people who have been around Hip Hop at the time when The Roots were huge and actually got deep into their catalogue would consider Black Thought a legend.

Also, i see your point about the comparisons not making sense but you’re looking to deep into it like you expect them to be exactly the same artist. Its just a comparison for fun, theres no science behind it.

  87. @ Tyson, I cant Believe you just said Kendrick is better than Pac. SMDFH ! Tupac was never a punchline rapper but as a FULL ARTIST Tupac delivery and words and quotes stood out more and for subject matters, he touch every base that related to the Streets, community, politics, rich and fame ! Pac got CLASSIC songs that STILL get played today, let see if Kendrick will ever do that.

  88. The reason why Kendrick, Big Sean, J. Cole etc. were compared to the legends is because they seem like theyre falling into place as the new superstars of rap just like the legends were at the time. If Elzhi looked like he had superstar potential and J. Cole didnt then, yeah, he’d be the new Nas.

  89. @Chicago , yeah I get it cause im just having fun too but when you start comparing people to the legends it because alot bigger then just beats and rhymes. Jayz , Nas , biggie , Pac are who they are because of what type of people they were. Their music was they’re real life story not just dope lines and delivery. Also Black Thought is dope but again , Legend is a word for people who are much bigger then just music. What those artists stood for and for what two of them died for is weight that I would not want to put on any new artist to carry on. Pac and Big aint just rappers , they both had a whole coast on their shoulders.

  90. Kanye West got CLASSICS on his FIRST album that still get played. What classic song Kendrick got on Section 80 that you could easily pick out that gone last the next couple of years. People fail to understand that you dont gotta be very lyrical to make a big impact on the game. All you gotta do is get your point across and make sure people understand it.

  91. @Marty McFly

Either im not understanding your point or, by your criteria there’s like 3 legends in the rap game. Off the top of my head legends

-Nas, Jay, Pac, Big, Big L, Big Pun, Dre, Ice Cube, Snoop, Daddy Kane, Rakim, Wu-Tang as a colllective, Slick Rick.

If Black Thought doesnt belong in the conversation with some of these legends or some of the ones i didnt mention in your opinion then i dont have anything to say.

You’re a legend if your music is loved by millions and you stand the test of time. I dont think you have to have a coast on your shoulders or start a revolution.

  92. @ThaTruth, the only one that really comes to mind is Keisha’s Song, but it’s too early to be trying to judge these newer artists as legends. A classic is something that stands the test of time as Chicago said, so of course albums and mixtapes that just got released this year and last year can’t be classified as classics.

  93. @ThaTruth

I wouldnt know, time will tell.
No one seems to understand that im not saying the new wave is as good as the legends or will be as good as the legends. But they are the faces of the new generation of rap/hip-hop so im just looking at who they most closely compare to with the legends (IN MY OPINION)

Musically or in terms of impact, NO, im not comparing them. The legends are untouchable.

  94. @Chicago , first of all let me just say that I know all the Roots albums front to back so when I say I wouldnt put Black Thought in the same sentence as the artists you named its because I know his lyrics very well and I can compare them from a better perspective then alot of people who dont really know the Roots music. I have respect for Black Thought but im not calling him legend. As for Big Sean last thing im gonna say is if you remember when Fabolous came in the game his rhyming ability was crazy. I dont think Sean is at that level yet even though hes close , so I damn sure aint gonna say he can fuck with Biggie , a nigga with alot of different subject matter and a rhyme scheme that to this day nobody can do like him. NOBODY

  95. Drake has some songs that im convinced will stand the test of time and thats what you look for when you try to predict the next great MCs. Kendrick has alot of potential also but I feel its still too early to get where hes trying to take it musically as of right now. Cole is dope too but he reminds me more of Black Thought and Talib Kweli then Nas and Kanye.

  96. If you’re saying Black Thought is not a legend because lyrically hes not on the level of legends then i cant argue that.

To be honest when someone says “lyrically” the best rapper i think its bullshit because i dont see how you measure lyricism. Intricate wordplay and metaphors? In terms of that, no, Black Thoughts not a legend but in terms of me feeling what hes saying, hes a legend, IMO. Also, hes one of the founding fathers of the line of “socially conscious rappers” (Talib, Mos Def) that came after him.

  97. @Chicago,I honestly think there is no way to judge high caliber artists based on lyricism. Once you reach a point where each artist can clearly rap, not just on some bullshit, well then it enters into a personal choice with who you relate more to. For me, Andre 3000 is the best rapper, but I don’t hear anything about him in any of these discussions. Once you get the group, it’s best to just leave it at a group rather than trying to crown a king.

  98. Co-Sign @Cloud9

    I completely agree with that.

  99. Lyricism is when you make powerful statements not just dope rhymes based on great syllable flipping. Its when you say the right things at the right time based on a current event and you make the subject easy to understand for the people. Lyricism is when your not trying to be lyrical , you just are because the content calls for such wordplay. Lyricism is being GOOD at many different styles or being GREAT at perfecting just one style. Lyricism is when you have a rhyme thats so good you want to share it with people but your afraid someone else will bite it because its that good.

  100. And its also when you understand the purpose of punchlines , metaphors , double entendres and rhyme schemes and know how to use them correctly. One

  101. @ marty mcfly , I agree when it come to lyricism but a rapper wont be good if they dont put emotions and character into it. A lot of rappers sound like they talking to themselves and not having a conversation with you. Sometimes Nas and Common have important and powerful rhymes but it don’t catch my attention because they not putting enough emotions and character in their words and their flow. They straight spitting but It like a run on sentence. J Cole studied this and that why I give him a upper hand than Kendrick.

  102. People get mad when I talk about lil wayne. When people hear a lil Wayne song it is easily for you to repeat his lyrics because he know the art of drawing your attention and he know how to change up and ride a beat. Exp Ludacris, 2pac, Kanye, Drake, Nicki Minaj and etc. You gotta demand some attention to your lyrics.

  103. No point in sounding good if u aint really saying anything at all

  104. @ThaTruth , your talking about delivery not lyricism.

  105. Kendrick is a ugly ass alien head nigger

  106. ^Gayest comment ive seen. It must suck to be you because no respectable person would say some shit like that. You should work on that.

  107. I still don’t understand how Section 80 is better than OD. Dont get me wrong Section 80 is a solid album but OD is a classic. I give Section 80 a 8.6 and OD a 9.7

  108. @jazzy is a white supremacist

  109. These are some of the most ridiculous comments I’ve ever seen on 2DB. @Tyson – hip hop is better than ever? And then you try to defend the dumb shit you’re saying? People talking about young mostly average rappers who then got co-signs from established rappers/labels looking to cash-in by forcing the “next big thing” and all of a sudden these newbies are on par/better than the legends they try to emulate?????

    F.O.H!!!!

Kendrick Lamar (and the entire Black Hippy collective) is the most unique/authentic of any of these newcomers…and they don’t even have an official album yet. That said, their mixtapes play like albums and they deserve all the props they’re getting. There’s only one 2Pac. Different era, different experiences…though I do think Kendrick Lamar does have the audacity & what it takes to be legendary because of his own doing, not because of anyone else.

J.Cole wants to be famous so bad it’s pathetic. He’s educated – applaud the man for that — but then tries to rap like he’s about the streets & droppin’ n-words relentlessly but then drops The Work Out as his single. FAIL FAIL FAIL and corny as hell. He’s NEVER going to mentioned with the legends.

Big Sean is goofball shit. People might think his music is fun to party too but so is T-Pain and no one’s saying he’s the new Biggie. There is nothing remotely Biggie about this clown. This guy is garbage without the G.O.O.D. label. .
Drake should be a hook man…nothing more. And he should never rap. Dude is subject matter challenged to say the least.

I’ll applaud Tyler the Creator for creating the buzz he has but there is nothing he’s saying that Brotha Lynch Hung, C-Bo, ODB, Freddie Foxxx, or these other I-don’t-give-a-fuck rappers haven’t said even before Eminem said it.

Point is, all the rappers are in the infancy stages of their careers…and it’s yet to be seen if any of these rappers will even have a career that lasts. Just quit comparing them to legends already.

  110. @journalist

I agree with that. But seriously, did you read the comments or just ignore them? Everyone keeps saying “theyre not as good as the legends” to defend their point even though nobody ever said they were. Tyson was just making a comparison for fun, he didnt say theyre exactly the same artist.

The reason the comparison was made was to see who relates between the what looks like the superstars of the 2010s and the superstars of the 90s/2000s. And the reason T-Pain isnt compared to Biggie or Elzhi isnt compared to Nas is because they dont look like theyre gonna be the faces of the rap game just in case you didnt understand that by now. You dont have to agree but you also dont have to freak out about it and say its wrong. Why cant you just let people be excited for current hip hop?

  111. @Chicago

I mean, its a total cop out tho to say that “hip hop is better than ever right now” and then turn around and go “oh, wait, I didn’t mean that anybody IN hip hop is actually better than the old dudes… I just started making random comparisons for the hell of it”
