Kendrick Lamar – The Spiteful Chant f. ScHoolboy Q

After Section.80 dropped, it quickly soared to the top spot of the Hip Hop/Rap charts on iTunes (#3 overall as well). Now that’s it’s officially out, I got the green light to post my personal favorite track off the album.

Produced by SounwaveDave Free; mixed by Ali. Do you’re part and support!

  1. SHAKE YOU A FUCKEN BITCH OFWGKTA. SECTION 80 IS AVERAGE AT BEST OL DICK RIDER ASS BITCH YALL DOIN TO K.DOT WAT THE WHITE MEDIA DID TO YELLAWOLF NO ONE REALLY LIKE THESE DUDES.

  2. Honestly Shake, I thought Lil B’s album was better than Kendricks.. You definitely hyped Kendrick’s album to the fullest.

  3. This is my favorite track too Shake…Kendrick can do anything, and Q killed it.

  4. Been rocking this piece since it came out. Dude deserves the support, he got talent, Hip hop is coming back, hopefully.

  5. IMO Hol Up >>>
But y’all already posted that up so nvm that

  6. Section.80 was better than Odd Future and Lil B’s entire discographies. And I say that with absolutely no sarcasm or exaggeration at all.

  7. Id say this is my 3rd fav track behind Hiiipower and Poe Mans Dream.
not a weak song on Section 80 tho

  8. the hate trolls really come out on weekends

  9. lmfao it’s their fuckin blog, how you gonna come on their shit and get mad about what they post? O_o and shitting on Kendrick Lamar just because Shake supports his music is pretty fuckin lame especially since Kendrick Lamar is better than most artists out there right now, i mean i’d understand the anger and hate if dude supported someone like Waka but K.Dot doesn’t suck lol. Lil B’s album was dope but it wasn’t better than Section80 and shut that OFWGKTA bullshit down, they already got all the publicity they need and fanboys still get on 2DBZ steady postin the same shit that was said when dudes were unknown

  10. This is my favorite track too.. Theme music right here.

  11. ALBUM OF THE YEAR . PERIOD

  12. Poe Mans Dreams is my favorite..and Rigamortus >>>> 1,000 Lil Bs and Tyler the Creators combined

  13. @yee u wildin wit for one yo. Granted I’m basing this on the previews on iTunes and the one track 2dope posted from lil b’s album, but I think that joint is avg at best. Section 80 is good, even great at times. But I was expecting a lil bit more. I’ma give it true listen but I think the hype may have overshadowed it a bit.

  14. How to tell when someone is blowing up
90 percent love 10 percent hate …some what blowing up
50 percent hate 50 percent love….dudes blown up
i remember when kendrick was first put out on this site
dude had 100 percent love i know he didnt blow up

dude has so much haters following him Loyally i know this year hes gonna blow

  15. @jonnie I’ll take it a step further. Rigamortus>>>>>>>>life

  16. Hows nobody mentioning Keisha’s Song as one of the best on the album?

  17. This song is dope, I think Keisha’s song is the most powerful one though. Either way, the entire album is fuckin flames. Hardly ever buy albums but I was glad to support Kdot.

  18. Listen to something official – jazzy and dope -
    http://shop.digicrates.com | CD’s On Sale

  19. Lil B’s album is better than this? lmfao fuck outta here

I’m Gay doesn’t even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Section.80

  20. Its # 2 now yall.

  21. I think is my favourite track as well on Section.80

  22. who ever said Kendrick is average and other (new wack) artist’s are better than my maine’s you must have your head all deep in your ass…one of my favorites is “Rigamortis” I’m Out.

    WestCoast!!

  23. I thought Section 80 was good but I was expecting a little better than what he put out.
Lil B blew me by surprise, I thought I was gonna hear one of those Justin Bieber and Ellen Degeneres bullshit but he put some fire in his album.. Obviously you guys didn’t give Lil B’s album a good listen to. I listened to it because Lupe said shit was dope and he was the reason why I started listening to Frank Ocean as well.

  24. #2? OH SHIT

  25. Lil B’s album might have been good but you’d have to be out of your fucking mind to compare it to Section.80

I think most people were just surprised Lil B had a brain, that’s why they like his new album so much

  26. Tyler needs to take notes from Kendrick The King Of LA Today

  27. @Yee

I did the exact same thing, as far as the Lupe/Lil B. I, on the other hand, was still nothing close to impressed, although it was clear that he at least tried on this one. Please, if u really do believe it was better than Section 80, what did it have that was better? Beats? Concepts? Flow? Please don’t say lyrics or I swear I will find u and choke u.

I’m just curious, because “I’m Gay” was surprisingly not awful. But its still nothing that I would spin again, whereas Section.80 hasn’t been turned off for the last 2 days.

  28. Is it me or does this the same beat as Flossin by Neako?

  29. You know what’s funny… if Lil B, Tyler, Soulja, and all these other Swag dudes were droppin all this Based/Swag/Cookin shit a few years ago when Wale, Curren$y & Wiz, Cole, Cool Kids, etc. were puttin out all those soulful ass fire REAL ass hip hop tapes we’d be like what the F*CK is this retarted shit… but now with all this Lex Luger nonsense, based swag, and w/e people be losing their minds man

this shit kendrick just put out is the truth and songs like “blow my high” show you can do some xany lean type smoke shit with some integrity

    [/end rant]

  30. “Lil B’s album is better than this? lmfao fuck outta here

I’m Gay doesn’t even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Section.80″

Lupe Fiasco disagrees. And I’m pretty sure someone that wrote a song as complex as “Failure” is more knowledgeable than you.

  31. I momentarily forgot whose album this was after Q’s part… Q went in and murdered it! Best album of the year so far…Now, waiting for J. Cole & Jay Rock… Nipsey, eh, been waiting and still waiting…

  32. ^No, u fucking moron, hes not. We’re arguing OPINION here, and washed-up Lupe Fiasco isnt gonna overrule anybodys opinion.

  33. So you only listen to niggas if Lupe says listen to them… As much as i mess with Lupe (I’ll easily tell you he’s my favorite artists) thats clearly some dickriding shit dude… I mess with Frank Ocean because Nostalgia/Ultra was legitimately dope (Novacane anyone?). Lil b’s album was average, good compared with some of his other shit, but average when compared with good rap. @Yee, dont dickride dude, thats no good. Listen to shit, form your own opinions, dont dickride your favorite artists opinions.

Rigamortus is easily my favorite track, this is like second, followed by Fuck your Ethnicity and Keisha’s song. That outro is fuckin smooth as hell too. Section.80 is fucking dope,

  34. Oh yeah just cause Lupe Fiasco thinks Lil B’s album is better than Kendrick’s, let’s all jump on his dick and agree with him

  35. LOL as if some mans OPINION is somehow fact. fuckin dickrider. Lupe is washed

  36. @Po
His beats and flow, his lyrics needed some help but it was definitely beyond better than his previous “Songs”. If you listen to his album, you only hear “Based God” or “Swag” probably 3 times in the entire album. Trapped in Prison was a pretty decent song he made

I listened to Section 80 every chance I had, in the bathroom while playing NBA Jam on my Iphone and shit. I mean Kendrick is super gifted and he is a great artist but this album kinda disappointed me because he coulda made it a little better after listening to “HiPower” and “Ronald Regan Era”. I thought he could have added “Temptation” which would have been perfect to this album.

  37. Too my knowledge Lupe didnt say shit about Section.80 He said to check out Lil b cuz he fucks with Lil B, but never compared Im Gay to Section.80

  38. Section.80 is better than any other hip-hop album that came out this year so far

  39. Nope, I’m not a dickrider, just juxtaposing opinions. As I would listen to Lupe’s opinion before some unknown with a bias. As you were clearly spewing your opinion as fact.

  40. i thought he didnt smoke theres a line where he says ” right now im high as ever ” so does he smoke now or is he talking bout hiiipower ?

  41. http://www.kendricklamar.com…….oh, i meant 2dopeboyz, obviously theyre on the payroll, shit is sickening.

  42. A.D.H.D. is the answer to your ? @Travis

  43. 1. Mr. Shake, why is this your favorite? Just because it’s my least favorite on the album

    2. I’ve listened to the album about 6-7 times now, and it’s amazing. It doesn’t impress on the first listen, but it really gets better with every play. Take your time with it.

  44. This album grows the fuck on you

  45. GAWD DAMN obviously niggas don’t read. Fucking dumbasses
Ya’ll blowing shit out of proportion just like the media does -_-
I aint dick riding either. I just took Lupe’s opinion and wanted to see if he was right or not, obviously he thought it was the best rap album he’s heard and I aint saying his shit was GOAT.
People obviously hear about artists from people’s opinions, That’s how you hear of Odd Future, Lux Luger, and all them artists. So just because I said I took Lupe’s opinion and wanted to see whether he was right or not, aint dick riding..

  46. Man there are pros and cons to Sec 80. Its good but there is no way in hell that this is the album or the mixtape of the year. Some of yall just didnt listen to any other mixtape or album so you assume shit. I like the project but im just saying…

  47. @marty mcfly

I’ve listened to literally every Hip Hop mixtape/album that’s come out this year so far and I think this is literally the best so far. Even beats out R4 by Big KRIT in my opinion.

  48. Even Big Krits is not the best project out so far. There are other projects that are more consistent with dopeness. Some projects just get more hype then others while shit like Fashawns Higher Learning Vol 2 doesnt.

  49. u know this site is starting to suck
when people mention lil b and odd future in every post

  50. i agree with those who said Rigamortus>>>>>>>
    that song is fucking sick….
everything else (besides hiiipower) was just mediocre to me tho honestly

  51. go get the album

  52. This beat goes harder than a muthafucka… Sounwave is THAT dude, in my opinion. Kendrick & ScHoolboy ripped it, too. I fux with this.

  53. where can we buy the physical? it was sold out by the time anyone announce we could buy it.

  54. Rigamortus is the illest, easily. I expected to hear more raw spitting from Kendrick. It’s OK, but some of yall need to use the words “classic” and “album of the year more responsibly”. Seriously.

  55. @afoXbehindthewheel

THANK YOU! About time someone said it! That’s just the worst form of dickriding there is! For instance, in about 2007, Kanye West cosigned Soulja Boy. Now, if Ye cosigns him, does that mean I have to? Hell no!

And album is definately Top 20 of the year so far.

  56. best album/mixtape ive heard in years! This ish is bananas.

  57. I never heard of this guy until Section 80 but i must say im def glad i bought it. Some pretty good production on this and it was a kind of unique sound. As a rapper i thought he had some nice ass lines right off the bat. Aint on the bandwagon but imma check for this guy from now on.

  58. Eeeee… Woodkid Sample killed it.

  59. It’s not a classic. That word is used to quickly. I do like the album though. Kush and Corinthians is probably one of my favorites. A.D.H.D. just makes me want to do drugs with a bitch haha. Kendrick is growing and I like that.

  60. This is the first album in a while that I’m naturally attracted to. It has a very real, raw energy that’s completely honest. I’ve heard it described as being PRO-BLACK, which is hard to deny, but I feel Lamar steps beyond that and writes relatable reality. The recording moves forward and calls us to reflect over ourselves within the musical energy.

  61. How is Lupe washed up? Cause his label made him change up his album? Smh and Lupe has never even heard Section 80..if he heard it Im sure he would admit its better..Im Gay has good lyrics and a positive vibe to it, but Lil B’s skills as a rapper/MC are AVERAGE..oh yea when Food & Liquor II drops…>>>>> Section 80

  62. 1) Don’t compare tentative albums to albums released
    2) Lupe chose his own fate by signing to that label so it’s as much as his own fault as it is the labels
    3) You don’t know what Lupe has heard so don’t prepare to speak on his half

  63. no song will ever come close to this
    http://stigofthedumpuk.bandcamp.com/track/all-of-that
    my head swanging all day

  64. @Dont Worry about it

True, I definitely think K.Dot’s at his best when he’s spitting some raw/emotional shit. Cut You Off and The Heart Pt 2 my favorite songs from him by far. If he was to release an album that was just raw, then I’d say that would be classic. I think the album is tough, not classic, probably not best of this year, but definitely within top 10 or 15.

@Marty McFly I thought it was just me that though Fashawns project didn’t get more mentions. I’ll say it again, i thought this album was dope, but for me it isnt better than OD, and especially since the year isnt over I wont say its AoTY.

@Yee your on a blog, so im pretty sure you know how to navigate without leaving all your decisions up to Was. The fact that you came on the comment section (no homo) and only pushed albums that Lupe said he likes, gives the impression that your dickridin homie. Matter of fact, regardless of what anyone says, your opinions about something should be your opinions, not “Well he said…so…” nigga. Your a dickrider, dont be mad, just stop dickriding.

  65. @JWIII Album is a album, i’ll compare em if I want…Lupe had control over Food & Liquor and The Cool so Im sure he expected to have control over Lasers until the last minute but he already announced the label aint messing with Food & Liquor II so Im sure itll be another modern classic…and the 3rd point your right

  66. And even though he signed to a major that messes with the creative process of an album doesnt = the artist is washed up

  67. whoever posted that link ..stig of the dump? ..wtf that shit is hot as fuck

  68. Lasers is one of the best albums of the year in my opinion. And im not claiming to know this for a fact but i think most people who say the dont like it just say that because it has pop beats and hooks. Lupes still doing his thing. Good lyrics over pop beats still equals good music. You dont have to hate it just because it sounds pop.

  69. Righhttt it was the label… the nigga penned the fucking songs, to the respective instrumentals. The nigga went in the booth and laid that shit DOWN. Nobody put a fucking gun to his head.

  70. LASERS is Dope its just the cool thing to say you dont like it right now. Give me some albums out right now with better songs on it. Dont worry ill wait…

    Letting Go
    Words I never Said
    State Run Radio
    All Black Everything
    Never Forget
    Break the Chain
Outta My Head ( still better then your favorite artists single )

Songs that didnt make the album but you know they shouldve.

    Shinning Down
    Beaming
    SLR
    Stereo Sun

Im sorry no album can fuck with these songs so far this year and BTW Show goes on = Platinum single.

  71. lol UK rap is on a different level
they use beats that would make the 90s and dr dre jealous

  72. “Lasers is one of the best albums of the year in my opinion. And im not claiming to know this for a fact but i think most people who say the dont like it just say that because it has pop beats and hooks. Lupes still doing his thing. Good lyrics over pop beats still equals good music. You dont have to hate it just because it sounds pop.”

    :| No?

  73. lol lasers was so bad lupe fiasco went on a blog next day making excuses are u kidding me

  74. Pound for Pound who did it better then Lupe thus far this year?

  75. LOL marty is defending Lasers and says Kendrick’s album is just ok

    Gtfo lol

  76. Cool to not like it? lmao what fuckin world do you live in. I listened to the album and didnt like it. Period. Its MY opinion, add i can think whatever the fuck i want. the album is fucking wack to me, end of story.

  77. I will give you this, marty mcfly, some of the songs that you said are kind of dope. But even if we’re judging Lasers as a pop album, it’s pretty bad.

  78. @Marty

    Nearly EVERYBODY

  79. Yeah i think its just the cool thing to hate on Lasers. The lyrics are there, the positivity and the message is there, the beats and hooks are pop so it cool to hate because you guys want “real” hip hop. Thats my guess.

  80. Its not hate. Its an opinion. You can say teh illest fucking verse ever written… but if the beat is wack nobody gunna wanna hear that shit.

Niggas was better off dropping an acapella album.

  81. Thats fine if you thing Kendrick made better music then Lupe this year and if you think Lasers sucks but I just dont agree. Lasers didnt have me jumping for joy but the songs I brought up still stand as some of the best shit this year. If were talking lyrically , creatively pushing the limits and even if you wanna talk numbers and the charts. LASERS did its thing.

  82. I dont hate Lasers, but I wont put it for AoTY material. I dont think the pop melodies were that bad (though on some songs, like coming up, I was like -_-, and I will never like outta my head at all) or the poppy MDMA hooks destroy the album (even though I’ve heard Beutiful Lasers live, I can can tell you Pooh Bear sounds so much better & soulful without autotune. And for me the weakest part of State Run Radio, aside from its message contradicting what happened in the album, was the hook. it sounded awful, and it definitely couldve had anyone good singing it, they couldve had Lupe sing it like he did concert, but instead had the random white pop star who sung that shitty hook…)

Even so the lyricism which lupe had on the cool and F&L was not existent here. I love Lupe stuff because it has that crazy lyricism along with that positive message. Lasers lacked that, so for a Lupe album, this was disappointing for me. I dont think he’s washed up, but Lasers just was not my favorite album by lupe, nor was it my favorite album of the year.

  83. Words I never Said – Kind of dope
State Run Radio – Good concept, bad execution
All Black Everything – Best song on the album
Show Goes on – Good single for the mainstream
Outta My Head – Annoying. Just annoying.

  84. @Johnnie,

I like LASERS so I’m not even hating but you can’t logically compare an album (L&F2) that isn’t even out yet to an album that is. There’s no legitimate grounds for conversation. It’s asinine, a waste of time, and completely talking out of one’s ass.

Lupe signed a contract. They were meddling with The Cool but he managed to deliver them a single that sold – Superstar. When they gave him a chance to deliver again (Shining Down & I’m Beaming)and the singles didn’t move the way the label needed to financially, they interrupted. Lupe has always been a conflicted artist, stuck between artistic and financial motives. If he didn’t, he wouldn’t be signed to a major.

Besides it’s basically common knowledge after Chilly hit the pen, he needed the label for more finances.

  85. @aggzworff , name names , who put out a project with more dope songs on it then LASERS? I mite be able to think of some myself but it aint easy but in your opinion name some names.

  86. ” the beats and hooks are pop so it cool to hate because you guys want “real” hip hop.”

Look. I’m accustomed to the sound of pop music. I don’t hate it, shit I listen to Katy Perry every while and again. But as pop music goes, this is just the most contradicting and un exciting music.

  87. I respect marty’s opinion. Music is all opinion anyway. What someone thinks is complete garbage might be pure gold to another. I think alot of people come on these blogs to find people who confirm their opinions. All they want to see is positive comments so they will feel better about the music. That’s bullshit. No one is going to like everything a artist puts out. I consider shit hate when someone constantly bags an artist on every single blog post they have just for the fuck of it.

  88. There were a few songs on lasers that were good, but niggas talking about “album of the year” FOH

80% of lasers sounded like the mentally retarted offspring of top 40 radio.

  89. Yeah gotta agree with McFly though. The show goes on did go platnium, Letting go, till I get there, Beautiful Lasers, State Run Radio, All Black Everything and the stuff that didnt make the album but didnt were all tough shit (if you notice, my criticism of the album is compared to hearing the songs live and his previous albums.) If we talk the numbers game Lupe got this on lock, and compared to a lot of music put out this year is definitely top 5 in my book (Lupe at his worst is still better than most artist at their best). Its not the AoTY to me, then again Im still looking forward to other projects, but it wasn’t shit either

  90. Section.80 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lasers

  91. @JWII Like I said already, Lu already announced that F &L II is halfway done and the label already agreed not to mess with it..the fact that we’ve seen what Lupe can do when a label doesnt mess with this creative process is why I say F&L II will be better..imo Lu has the ability to (when he has creative control) and has already made songs better than all of Section 80

  92. Off the top?

    Big Krit – R4EVA
Saigon – Greatest Story Never Told
    Curren$y – Covert Coup
    Random Axe- Random Axe

  93. @ Pauly Dee

Thats cool, who doesnt listen to Katy Perry every while and again. Im not saying you personally, think that (”the beats and hooks are pop so it cool to hate because you guys want “real” hip hop.”) thats just what i think about some people who dont like Lasers based on a lot of peoples comments i see on this site. I might be wrong, Im not saying its a fact, but thats what i think is a possibility.

  94. but still, you cant compare something that’s not out to something that already came out. thats bad science johnie

  95. Lamar’s Section.80 had far more dope songs (note, not saying they’re all doper but he had more dope songs) and delivered it’s content in a better execution that LASERS managed.

    REKS R.E.K.S
    Stalley Lincoln Way Nights

I agree that LASERS is getting too much hate but that’s to be expected when the creator comes out and speaks negatively. Plus, it ultimately suffers from poor guest features (MDMA) and unexpected “typical” collaborations (Trey Songz).

And I would add Saigon Greatest Story Never Told but I question it’s repeatability but as a whole it was executed far superior than LASERS.

@Jonnie, it’s one thing to reflect on music that’s already made, another to reflect on music that isn’t out. And most did not know the issues about LASERS until it was released. So, until F&L2 is released we won’t know how much interference the label has. It’s all ass talk.

  96. All Black Everything off Lasers itself is better than every individual song on Section 80 imo…I think Kendrick is the best MC today tho right behind Lu..and Jay Elec..when he’s releasing music lol

  97. And I never said LASERS was album of the year but people only judge the singles ( which by the way are some of the biggest singles this year ) and forget about the other songs. Are the beats pop? Yes but do I like it better then alot of so called real hip hop production this year? Hell yeah cause shit is getting to soft and Outta my Head is one of the best songs ive heard this year I dont care if you clown me all night for that cause its a very good pop song so I judge it for what it is. LASERS was built to entertain people at his shows and Lupe doesnt run with other hip hop acts on tour. He performs at venues with pop artists and rock n roll artists but if your telling me he didnt drop some serious lyrics and concepts along the way during LASERS you must not have really listened. BTW Shinning Down is what gave LASERS its energy in the beginning and that song alone is one of the most amazing songs ive ever heard in my life cause he takes hip hop to a whole other level sonically while maintaining his message lyrically. Who the fuck else is doing that?

  98. Kendrick is doing that but hes still trying to master his style , I can hear it in his delivery.

  99. why didnt sex with society make the album

  100. Really? Naw, son, and I know I’m in the minority here but All Black Everything is one of the weaker tracks on LASERS. It falls into that middle category of above a dud but below dope. It has an inconsistent narrative. Is he being pro-”black” or is he being pro-human? The logic isn’t there. Plus, the grounds of the what if? extrapolation is historically inaccurate – there were slaves before the euros arrived. Instrumental was ill but I wasn’t feeling Lupe.

Beautiful Lasers (2 Ways) is probably my personal favorite track next to Letting Go (which I think captures where Lupe was at perfectly).

  101. I have nothing against pop or any other type of music. I listen to almost everything… The album just didnt make sense sonically. There were a few songs on the album that sounded like whats expected of lupe, and the rest of the album sounded like a bunch of poorly executed attempts at making another “superstar”. It’s not that it sounded pop, its that it sounded fabricated and forced.

  102. word Sex With Society was my favorite leak, and yea I agree Kendrick is evolving as a artist, love how he incorporates melodies in his flows now and I remember a while back in a interview him saying Dr. Dre was giving him tips on how to do all that

  103. really this was your fav track?…. das koohl, it was my least fav.. dahh well to each his own..

  104. “shit I listen to Katy Perry every ”
can someone take this dudes router away

  105. no, indian rap is way better
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2kBIKX26ms

  106. Plus, I don’t see how any one can enjoy Lupe’s rock shit. My ears bleed.

Anyways, Lamar delivered. You feel like you could just chill with duke. Very controlled ego and it shows.

  107. @aggzworff , Ok lets see. Big Krits album was dope to me because of

    American Rapstar
    Another Naive… WOW
    Dreamin
    Free my Soul
    Highs & Lows
    Lions & Lambs
    Made Alot

Yes those songs are good but sonically lean on the Organized Noize sound , which is cool BUT Lupes music on LASERS has lyrics and beats the crossover. So I gotta give it to Lu for more commercial appeal , I know you wont respect that but some people will.

Now Saigons album , yes that was a good choice so I cant argue with you on that. Good One but I still gotta say LASERS has more crossover appeal , you mite not like it but that matters in hip hop

Covert Coupe is Dope but its freestyles so it not like a real album because most of the songs are one verse from Currensy , no hook and under 3mins in time as far as rapping and Lyrically its just not diverse enough.

Random Axe is OK buts it not even close to LASERS because its only touches on one kind of sound , which is Black Milks Lane from Detroit. LASERS is more global and relatable. Thats my opinion but you did name some DOPE shit.

  108. all black everything is corny…from the drums to the mood is sets!!

the integrity in kendricks music is far surpassing lupe…platinum or not!!!

  109. have yall read this
    -
Lupe fiasco really doesnt like lasers
    http://www.pedestrian.tv/music/news/lupe-fiasco-doesnt-really-like-lasers/37035.htm

  110. I really do like sex with society as well. That shit is tough to me. I need THC number. Those niggas makes some tight ass beats. Oh yeah fuck random axe. Well in particular Sean P. That album did nothing for me. That’s probably why it was 1.99 on amazon.

  111. Opinion wars, brought to you by annoying c-sectioners all over the world.

    ——

What happened to just straight up ENJOYING music? You like LASERS more than Section.80 (or vice versa) then COOL, more power to you. Just shut the fuck up and press play.

  112. First half of Random Axe suffers because of Sean P. Part of it is his arrogance and the other part is his flow (shit sounds old). The second half is really solid.

It should have been a collab between Elzhi, Black Milk, & Guilty. If not that, then those beats should’ve just been Caltroit 2 Metropolis with Bishop Lamont.

  113. Well, it seems someone on here is a close minded biiiitch!! Learn to open yourself to other music. And at least KP is GOOD at making pop music. At least I ain’t listening to Lady Gaga or Justin Beiber.

  114. “Pound for Pound who did it better then Lupe thus far this year?”

…thats kinda like the smartest kid in the slow class tho, isn’t it? Have any other established artists even dropped anything?

  115. I respect what your saying but you sound more like an A&R or label exec rather than a fan. “Commercial/ crossover appeal” means nothing to most fans. Infact that’s the exact type of thing that makes fans turn their back on an artist as you can tell ^^^

No idea is original. Nothing on lasers nor anything else for that matter is a fresh idea. Im not looking for these artists to reinvent the wheel, or come with 1000 styles on one album. In fact i personally prefer an album to have a cohesive sound and vision. I don’t want to hear an album full of attempts at radio singles.

All i can do is listen to the music, it simply comes down to it being dope or not. My opinion is really not in my control… either i feel it in my soul or not… Lasers had no soul IMO, it sounded fabricated and fake to me.

  116. Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2 and Return of 4Eva were both much better projects than Lasers, in practically every way.

  117. And if you think about it… Some of the best projects of 2011 were given away for FREE. I love hip hop….

  118. Random Axe songs I like- Chewbacca , 4 in the box and Random Call but thats about it so thats not really saying much and I was super excited for the album but its all good.

Im not trying to take the attention off Kendrick since this is his section but I just wanted to give another opinion on LASERS because as a total package its some good shit. Some songs are really bad and some concepts arent the best but Lupe at his worse is still dropping heat and if LASERS came out the way it was supposed too with the original beat for State Run Radio and some of the other songs that didnt make it. It would have been dope but still LASERS had the biggest impact on music so far this year coming from a hip hop lane and crossing over into a new lane. If 95% of other artists even tried to make a pop album but still remain true to the art lyrically they would fail period. Lupe accomplished the mission and put up some serious numbers and Outta My Head is about to hit the charts. @aggzworff I know I sound like a record exec sometimes but the things I say about crossing over matter. Are they respected by all the hip hop heads? No but it is what it is

  119. Japanese Cartoon is the shit. Crowd Participation and Gasp are my shit, they stay in constant rotation on my iPod.

@Xenocide: Tech 9, Emininem & Royce the 5’9, MMG, Saigon… not to mention all the new artist who have put something out this yeah…so um yeah

  120. @xenocide , So basically the answer is NO , nobody else has out done what LASERS has done this year so far. So when you bash LASERS just know its doing some serious work out there. Thats all im trying to say.

  121. Good music is good music… Whether it sell one copy or a million.

Same can be said on the opposite end of the spectrum. Just because something sells doesnt make it good. (See anything on top 40 radio)

  122. @marty mcfly

No, what I’m saying is that we’re halfway through the year and Lupe hasn’t really had any competition yet. But Kanye and Jay-Z have an album planned, Drake has Take Care, Lil Wayne is supposed to be dropping Carter 3… THESE are the artists that you’re trying to compare Lupe to in terms of mainstream appeal, the only problem is that they haven’t dropped yet. Lets have this conversation in 3-4 months and see if you’re still feeling the same.

Honestly, I find it disappointing that we’re even discussing whether Lupe’s sell out album was worth it. His other albums don’t need sales as a crutch, they stand on their own based on content alone.

  123. I can’t believe you niggas are not even mentioning QuESt’s The Reason: A Defense Mechanism. That album was incredible.

  124. The thing is , what are fans gonna do to make their favorite artists sell big numbers? You cant blame Lupe for crossing over because hes given the hip hop heads alot of dope shit over the years. Think what you wanna think but the people putting all this commercial shit on the radio and the people who work at these labels but some of them are the biggest fans of underground music , Believe it or not but they cant figure out how to make albums like Pharoache Monchs W.A.R do big numbers and thats the problem right there. These artists dont want to relate to both sides of the coin because they feel the need to keep it real to the underground but then the underground dont support like they should. So the game is fucked up. Good music is Good music and its not all about numbers but the numbers are hard for a rational person to ignore so if im the head of the hip hop department at a major what kind of artist am I supposed to sign? @xenocide but that fact still remains no matter how you look at it. LASERS did work , as Big Black from fantasy factory would say. We can have this convo later but thats later. We talking now…

  125. I really like this track Q murdered his verse, shit was fire, my favorite track is No Make-Up any track with Colin Munroe is automatically pure fire the whole Section 80 album is dope as fuck Kendrick is putting the westcoast back on the map! oh n lupe’s last album was trash and I’m a lupe fan

  126. Im done with the Lupe shit , just giving food for thought. As for Section 80 its dope but IMO if he stayed along the same lines of Fuck your Ethnicity , Reagan Era , Rigamortus and Hiiipower and stop trying all these different styles thats not really him and give J cole is vibe back ( Kendrick should have got some of Schoolboy Qs beats ). He has the capability to make some fire in the future.

  127. @marty mcfly

I never argued that it wasn’t true. I just said it didn’t mean anything.

  128. Let’s define crossover… Basically an artist builds a fan base based off of a particular sound. Then decides what? let me alienate and turn his/her back to my fans now??

Then use the tired ass excuse that they are “expressing themselves” and “growing as an artist”. Bullshit. You just wanted the money that comes with that, and i have NO RESPECT that.

If an artist stays true to themselves, and so happens to “crossover” then more power to them. It’s when its forced and fabricated simply for monetary reasons is where the problem lies. Its simply just selling out at that point…

Trendy bullshit will NEVER stand the test of time. Good music starts from the heart, if you skip that then what do you have?

  129. Idk why but I feel Kendrick’s come up like, because of him I feel like I’m being put on now too. It’s a wild feel, and that only happens when you actually have an artist that’s lyrics are that relatable. Support !

  130. …and yea i get it. People are spoiled by the internet and don’t buy music… Smarter artists understand this and simply by making authentic shit, giving it away, they can make their money on the back end (Shows, merch, endorsements)

Its 2011, a time where you’d be LUCKY as a major label artist to push 50-100k first week… Hardly enough to recoup the initial investment the label made.

  131. yeah, I liked the storytelling songs he has on the album, but i definitely think hes more suited to to the angry/politcal shits like Rigamortus or Fuck your ethics. The story telling I like better with J.Cole, but thats me.

  132. Not every artist is gonna make their money back by doing shows. The cost of making and delivering music is VERY expensive and by giving it away artists are not promised to be able to make enough money to have a career by doing shows , most of these internet rappers , even the ones doing shows are not making that much money without good sales. Also crossing over doesnt make you have to be corny. Jayz has been doing it for almost 20 years and he stays lyrical at the same time.

  133. just listened to the album and it was pretty damn good. it’s rare these days to have a hip-hop album where each song can focus on a single topic without adding some bullshit about how sick their flow is or some other bullshit.

  134. Here’s the song they sampled.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSkb0kDacjs

  135. @Starks I agree.
QuESt is dope. The Reason: A Defense Mechanism is raw, passionate, and lyrical. The dude is on the rise as well. He murdered the HiiiPoWeR beat as well over that freestyle he released.

  136. It’s funny cause months ago, when he dropped “Overly Dedicated” a lot of you were shittin on da kid cause he was selling the record! Now what do you think is he worth the purchase??? HELL YEAH he is (yeah I answered for you stubborn ass niggas!) The kid is a breath of fresh air and hi TDE mates aint bad either ScHOOLBoyQ!

    CaSleek has spoken… 747 Media!

  137. This album is REALLY good and overall very solid. Eventhough i didnt like ALL of the songs in it, this album has that feeling where you might obsess about a certain song one week then another for the next week until you know every song word by word. It surprises me how Compton went from NWA to THIS. New West indeed.

  138. how the fuck can you put a thumbs down for this album?

  139. HAHA this is the best song? Rigamortis, Keisha’s Song, Ab-Souls Outro, Hol Up, Poe Mans Dreams all come to mind b4 this! One of my least faves

  140. Kendrick is legit! TDE hasent made anything bad yet in my opinion. I want a Black Hippy project. Kendrick and Ab Soul are what rap needs right now.

also all these Odd Future kids need to calm down. Wolf Gang is still gettin shine who gives a shit if 1 less site doesnt support. GOBLIN was trash tho there was mayb 4 songs on there i liked. i expected better.

  141. this, ADHD, chapter six and kush and corinthians are my personal favs.

  142. i am admittedly biased to east coast hip-hop, and never been a huge fan of dre or his proteges (em or 50).. kendrick is fucking incredible tho. as i see it, he rides a beat better than anyone in the game atm.
can’t pick a single track, but it’s between hol’up/adhd/poe mans dreams. surprisingly my favorite album of the year.

  143. “HAHA this is the best song? Rigamortis, Keisha’s Song, Ab-Souls Outro, Hol Up, Poe Mans Dreams all come to mind b4 this! One of my least faves”

That’s why I said my PERSONAL favorite. Smh.

  144. Best Song – Keisha’s Song
Best Flow – Rigamortus(shit is disgusting)

  145. Not really feeling this to be honest. If you’ve heard the song this is sampled from you’ll realize that he doesn’t do this beat justice at all

  146. First of all Lupe didn’t say I’m Gay is better than Section.80, for all we know he hasn’t even listened to it, he just recommended the album. Secondly, Lupe is one of my favorite rappers, I’ve been listening to him since he first came, even before his Kanye feature on Touch the Sky, but Lasers was not that impressive. I’m Beaming was good because that was one of his original songs, All Black Everything was also a very good track, but overall the album was disappointing. I still bought it but as a whole I just couldn’t listen to the album except for those 2 tracks(and Words I Never Said).

  147. Anyone know exactly what the hook is saying?

  148. lil b better than Kendrick’s???? you guys are fucking retarded. his whole album is classic and can be listened to for ever. better than drakes 1st album by far and might even say better than Big sean’s. even the skits are dope. if u don’t like this go listen to pop or country

  149. Yall know this beat is a straight sample of Woodkid’s Iron? Check out the video. Nice stuff.

  150. this shit is aiight but not the best of the year at all. K.R.I.T’s shit goes harder in my opinion. Too much hype around Sec.80 and it didnt live up to it. That Dom shit was aiight too. cool ass summer music

  151. Why do people like this dude so much? his whiz impersonation is the only thing I’ve heard worth listening. This track is just boring and dumb. Without the beat I might as well be listening to some down ass syndrome ass rapper. not enough hoes, too many niggas blah da fuck blah it don’t matta what i say you’ve all heard it before

  152. Lasers was pure corny Trash….Lupe needs to get with Kendrick and Black Hippy.

  153. gay as fuck. everyone needs to stop hyping up shit like this, dumbass people will think its good just because of the hype. hiphop needs to go back to hyping music that is actually good with good production and good lyrics and no gayass whining hooks and shit

  154. ADHD = dopest track on the album. My opinion, of course.

    thecollegecurb.blogspot.com

  155. i like the song they sampled. k.lamar kinda did justice. it couldve been better 7/10

  156. still banging the shit
