The Soulphonics & Ruby Velle – The Man Says

Something a little different today. By now I’m sure most of you are aware of funk/soul revivalist bands like El Michels Affair, The Budos Band, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings and Lee Fields who, as a part of Dap-Tone Records spearhead said revivalist movement. Today I introduce you to The Soulphonics & Ruby Velle who hail from Atlanta. The frontwoman of the band, Ruby, is of Desi (Indian descent) and backed by her 8-piece band, channels soul divas like Gladys Knight & The Pips, Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle. You can order the 7″ over at Fat Beats if you dig what you hear.
