The Soulphonics & Ruby Velle – The Man Says

Something a little different today. By now I’m sure most of you are aware of funk/soul revivalist bands like El Michels Affair, The Budos Band, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings and Lee Fields who, as a part of Dap-Tone Records spearhead said revivalist movement. Today I introduce you to The Soulphonics & Ruby Velle who hail from Atlanta. The frontwoman of the band, Ruby, is of Desi (Indian descent) and backed by her 8-piece band, channels soul divas like Gladys Knight & The Pips, Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle.   6. Ruby is fly. The Soulphonics are fresh…seen em’ play and was very pleased with their musicianship. People playing real instruments…I like that concept.
