The Tens: 10 Candidates For Drake’s Rappers Who “Either Lost It Or Ain’t Alive”

The good folks at TheWellVersed put together this list of who they think Drake may have been referring to in his new cut

Kanye West: While Drake dismissed any slights toward Hov, that didn’t quite rule out his partner in rhyme and little brother Yeezy. The two were once fairly close, with Kanye directing the video to his break out single, “Best I Ever Had,” crowning Drizzy’s “Lesbi-honest” as the hottest line of the year, one can’t help but notice, the subtle distance between the two, being absent from each others albums. Not to mention that story Noah 40 told to VIBE about that Kanye incident. Not trying to instigate, just stating facts.

  1. anybody care though?

  2. The Lesbi-honest line is from Every Girl In The World, RETARD

  3. Complete BS. It’s obvious that the author of this article is using what Drake said to simply lay out who he hates and dickrides.

  4. What did 40 say about Ye… anyone?

  5. Must be a slow day without any real news out there. Who the hell cares, like really?

  6. what Pauly dee said. the article is shit, the author doesnt know shit (ex. nas last album was NIgger according to the article), and obvious has a drake bias.

  7. how is this post worthy?

the dude put Big L on the list? wtf?

  8. @1
he didn’t say it was from best i ever had, he was just saying two things that had to do with drake and kanye…

  9. Whoever did the article is a retard.
Kanye did 2 joints on Drake’s album and Drake was on the original version of All Of The Lights when it leaked as Ghetto University.
    Talk about reaching…geez

  10. this is a dog ass mixtape

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C9VAKBV0

  11. Exactly, Drake was on original yes, but he wasn’t on the final album version… That would make me mad.

And IMO Kanye gives Drake beats that are hard to rap on intentionally (Show Me A Good Time, You Know, You Know) and Kanye did the “controversial” Best I Ever Had Video. I think Kanye tries to sabotage Drake and he’s just like I’m Kanye you can’t turn me down. And Drake can’t.

I think it’s fun to watch haha

  12. @Boi you kidding?
First of all, Drake was on the final version of All Of The Lights. He did vocals along with handfuls of other atrists so you just can’t hear him distinctly. If you read the booklet for the album, he’s listed under vocals for the song. And second, Show Me A Good Time and You Know, You Know are fucking dope beats.

  13. @Boi u kidding?
First of all, Drake was on the final version of All Of The Lights. He did vocals along with handfuls of other atrists so you just can’t hear him distinctly. If you read the booklet for the album, he’s listed under vocals for the song. And second, Show Me A Good Time and You Know, You Know are fucking dope beats.

  14. also drake is on the remix version of all of the lights. haha. but i guess kanye put him on that specifically because they hate each other. you know…because people who hate each other work together…

  15. Im already on the site so clickin this wont hurt. but i just wanna say…..WHO CARES DUDE. SERIOUSLY? LIKE SERIOUSLY.

  16. Na but forreal, there was a brief beef between Drake’s camp and Kanye because Kanye thought Drake’s camp leaked the original all of the lights #FACT

  17. @Sweeney 40 said kanye hit him up saying he stole the 808s & heartbreaks sound and put it on So Far Gone

  18. The only diss song Drake ever made was called Goodnite & Goodluck and he was talking to other rapper from canada that you people probably wouldnt know any way. Drake dont do the industry beef thing with artists because Drake has nothing to gain from that.

  19. Did I ever say they hate each other?… And I said the beats were hard to rap on, they are dope.

You can hear him singing once… Quite different then him having a verse…….

And yeah cuz Kanye is on the remix… They must have been in the studio working together for hours on that one…

It’s all about the throne for Kanye, if he see’s a legitimate threat you think that doesn’t cross his mind? You guys must have never seen a mob film. Kanye is a genius. Subtle. His legacy >

  20. When Drake gets back to hip hop on “take care”, then he can say who really lost it or not. That album better be filled with 9th wonder beats

  21. Oh and when Drake was talking about “some other guys who decided to make a 2 person album too”

Read between the lines a little bit. Of course the have to be cordial because it’s all about the money but don’t act like there is no rivalry there.

@martymcfly you forgot about “Good Riddance”

  22. Fuck that cock sucker Drake.

  23. Kanye has yet to fall off but I’ll say there’s been plenty of shots thrown between Hov/Ye & Wayne/Drake even though both publicly deny.

The mere fact that Kanye is a producer automatically puts him a step up past Drake. Not to mention 808s did PAVE the lane for Drake.

  24. Whoever made this article must have like nothing to talk about. if u have nothing to say just shut up.

  25. Didn’t Drake diss Young Jeezy once? Whatevs. All I can say is that if Drake publically gets into a beef with Hov and Ye, his career will most likely eat itself into a corner.

  26. i’m a drake fan but you don’t want it with ye. and he’s not talking about ye because he never fell off? lol 3 classic albums your goin down as one of the goats. nuff said

  27. This was gay

  28. I thought it was great they didn’t include Pac in the ain’t alive category because of the line in Fear. He was just talking about how rap didn’t mean anything to him yet, the article was fucking bull.

  29. speculative bullshit

must have been a slow day in the office

  30. the real story of what shake did to lupe

    http://www.xxlmag.com/features/2011/05/lupe-fiasco-speaks-on-lasers-xxldouble-clicks/2/

  31. @Pauly Dee

Nah he dissed Canadian rapper Aristo saying he was a CTE dickrider.

  32. - Nas last SOLO album was Untitled/”Nigger”

    - Drake and Kanye haven’t done a collab together outside of Forever and Digital Girl. Kanye isn’t on “all of the lights remix”

    - Anyone who’s outraged by the “Ain’t Alive” list is a moron because it’s giving props to the rappers who died, not dissin them

    - “Kanye gave Drake two beats for his album” is irrelevant because that was before the incident with Noah 40 Shebib.

  33. Kanye completely lost it on 40 in Hawaii, saying that 40 completely stole his style for Drake’s So Far Gone from 808s and Heartbreak….just Kanye being Kanye

  34. Drake and Kanye dont have beef people they have been cool with each other for almost 3 years now. When you play sports , dont you talk shit to the other people playing on the same court? Does that mean you have a real beef? NO When either side mentions the other , they just fuckin around. Im sure Drake , Kanye and Jayz have been in the same room plenty of times and wasnt even workin on music. So just because you dont hear songs from them all the time dont mean nothing. Kanye aint beefing over no fucking beat style cause that would be childish as fuck. He said 40 used his style but oh well , he got more styles. Beef is for rappers who need publicity because they dont make good music not from artists who stay on top of their game.

  35. I mean… So Far Gone DID pretty much all the way jack 808s sound.

  36. @that last line of marty

Hmmm. Sometimes it is, but if I was a mainstream rapper I’d beef with a few people. Not for the publicity, but just to get people to realize that that other person is garbage. For instance, I wouldn’t hesitate to diss Wacka Flocka or Gucci Mane because they are destroying the minds of our society and youth.

Point blank, if you’re an ass rapper, I’m GONNA call you out on it. That’s the only time I’d use beef.

  37. Its funny you brought up Gucci and Waka because even though their music is wack their way more successful then most lyricist. We dont have to like it but it is what it is. Im sure alot of rappers want to call out other rappers but that will just make you look bad because it’ll look like your too concerned with somebody else. Rappers dont have beef , they have disagreements cause they never gone do shit but talk. Gucci and Waka aint messing up the kids minds because alot of kids dont even listen to them and both rappers are products of the neighborhoods they rap about. Yes they have a small influence on the kids but all the positive rappers aint putting in enough work to even top the racks on racks on racks guy so the game is in the state its in.

  38. MTV is turning your children gay.

  39. If So Far Gone bite 808s then how come So Far Gone is some much better. 40 may have used the same style but 808s bite off Prince , Sade and Michael Jacksons beat style and you dont hear them getting mad.

  40. MTV is turning your kids gay.

  41. Fuck, double post.

  42. Nigga are you kidding me IDGAF how gay that 808s shit is theres nooooo way Drizzys shit is better hahahahahahahahha oh shit that was a good try son i give you that.

  43. First, take a trip down to Atlanta when you get a chance. Gucci and the rest aren’t as successful as they would let you believe.

Second, a LOOOT of kids down here in the South listen to Gucci and the like. Every time I’m at the movies, going for a walk, going to get the MAIL, the children down here are ALWAYS playing them. In fact, whenever I go down to New Orleans, I tell my lil cousins to turn that shit off because they play it at an INSANE volume level.

  44. “Kanye aint beefing over no fucking beat style cause that would be childish as fuck”

^^Yeah because Kanye is the prime example of maturity and acting like an adult.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1z8gCZ7zpsQ&feature=player_detailpage#t=45s

  45. I dont care whos shit was better cause the streets decided and I know people aint listening to no 808s shit. So Far Gone had songs that I know had to have gotten millions of spins from a brand new artist that nobody heard of before that project. 808s mite have sold alot but not one person I know said that shit was tight except for two songs and most real hip hop heads were mad as fuck when they heard that trash.

  46. @marty mcfly

I havent heard Michael Jackson get pissed about anything for like 2 years now, and ironically its actually probably been longer since I heard an actual statement from Prince or Sade lol

I want to preface this by saying that personally, I wasnt big on 808s, and I dont consider myself a particularly big Kanye West fan. But Kanye took an enormous risk and created an altogether new sound. He had influences, sure, but that album didnt sound even remotely close to Thriller, Purple Rain or Lover’s Rock. He created his own little sonic realm. So Far Gone built on top of that platform, which, honestly, Kanye should have expected. But fundamentally its much easier to work off of somebody elses foundation than it is to start almost from scratch.

(ps- Just my thoughts, its Friday nite and Im heading out so Im really not trying to start some big thing. Ill probably be back on by tomorrow tho.)

  47. @pack but Drake still wrote the lyrics so at some point people have to be feeling what he says on the mic. @ Pauly Dee if you dont think Gucci is that successful I dont know what to tell you cause aint no way most these new rappers gon catch up and I hate his music but its the truth. New rappers can preach all the positivity they want but until they can relate to the kids in the ghetto , they aint gone pass the Jeezys and the Wakas.

  48. guess that was too real but its all good.

  49. We analysing throwaway lines now? Drake prob thought it sounded good and put it in. smh

  50. I thought jeezy was definitely one of them. I remember drake saying in an interview that he used to listen to and was inspiried by jeezy, and he had him on the album. but as we all know, jeezy has definitely fallen off. dude has failed to get tm103 out like 3 times now

  51. Really? Because the kids in the ghetto around here don’t think that Jeezy or the rest are Best Rappers Alive. And, again, come to Atlanta. Of all the successful people here, Gucci Mane is the LOWEST of the LOW.

  52. Fuck does that have to do with it? the line is “my favorite rappers either lost it or they ain’t alive.” we aren’t talking about what the kids in atlanta listen to, we’re talking about who drake’s favorites are. and he’s said before that he listened to jeezy a lot

  53. What about Phonte? Drake has gone on record plenty of times saying that Phonte is his favorite rapper. But now, Tay’s not even rhymin anymore.

  54. Drake is wack as fuck…if you callin a nigga out on how he changed just say his name. Nobody waitin’ on no vague mentions nahmean. It’s like fuck that. Drake is 1 of the niggas that kill hiphop. That dude need to make up his mind. What he wanna be a r&b singer or rapper. In both categories he ain’t going down as one of the greatest….by far. Frank Ocean need to show these hiphop niggaz what real singin is. Drake always raps about the same shit. Talkin’ bout how money can’t buy dreams? His carreer was BOUGHT. He is a jewish actor, nigga NEVER been broke. He had a milli on his bank before the rappin already. The fame and the beats. That’s why I find it hard to respect him, not hating, but I’m never gon feel his music.

  55. ^^^STFU. Drake personifies the struggle nigga..

  56. I stopped reading at “little brother Yeezy”

  57. He can’t b talking bout ye cuz he hasn’t lost it

He’s saying his fav rappers lost or ain’t alive, not he doesn’t like em anymore or has any beef with them

This list is dumb as hell

  58. Big L woulda ripped this faggot btw. Where is the connection between the two? Take him off this pointless list!

  59. ^^^ True.

  60. why has no one brought up Lil Wayne!!?? wouldn that be the obvious choice. Rumors of them getting in fights and Drake wanting to sign with Roc Nation. Plus everything weve heard for C4 has been terrible….?

  61. @marty mcfly

See thats the problem with the internet; I know I said something vaguely negative, but Im not a Drake “hater” and this isnt a conversation about him. Its always been about the production, right back to the rumors about Kanye going off on 40. Drake did his thing on So Far Gone, but the backdrop that 40 and Boi 1da built for him was basically 808s pt. 2. Thats all I was trying to say.

  62. Drake is no struggle. some of ya’ll are dumb as fuck. this nigga was cruisin in a wheelchair, probably making more money than your favorite rapper. and to gain mass appeal lil toonchi or whatever the fuck he calling himself lately formed a group very similiar to the backstreet boys to gain popularity. rapping about shit NO ONE can relate to but yet ya’ll talking about how hes a great?! smfh. get that shit outta here. DRAKE IS AN ACTOR.

  63. lemme ask you something….. you went and bought drizzys shit right? so when will smith dropped big willie style you probably thought that shit went hard as fuck too huh. fuckin lames.

  64. ^^^STFU… you’re the epitome of a Hater. Drake is one of the best rappers doing it right now, sure, anyone who’s not a retard knew he still had money to blow before he even signed with YMCMB… but that doesn’t mean you can’t relate to him. I mean… I’m sure there are a lot more suburban kids like myself that relate with Drizzy. Dude doesn’t have to be a gangster to make it in the biz, Wayne and Ross are perfect examples.

  65. 1st of all Drake talks about struggle in almost every single song he does , its not the struggle of making money. He talks about the struggle of having self doubt and trying to find himself and alot of times if you really listening he talks about struggling with fame but having the skills to be on top of hip hop. Thats one of the main reasons why his music connects with people because he gives it perspective and vulnerability. I can tell Drake probably knows every hip hop classic album front to back as well as classic R&B albums because hes not just a rapper , hes a song writer. Before he even starts to rap he picks beats that set the emotion then he chooses an approach and its usually about him questioning himself about overcoming a problem. That right there is automatically gonna draw people in , nobody knows if Drake ever been broke or not but his music is complex. Alot of fans look for reasons to like an artist for things that dont have nothing to do with music. If your judging Drake by just rhymes and beats , theres no way you could not be feeling his music cause he is putting almost all the styles of great artists in his own music.

  66. I know the “your just a dick rider” talk is coming but naw I just like good music and all these people with something negative to say about Drake have 100 of his songs in their itunes. If your a young person that ever had any self doubt or every questioned your own abilities ( which is everybody ) then Drakes music is gonna connect with you , end of story.

  67. Drake forgot the one person who actually belongs on this list… HIMSELF.

one hit wonder with a slew of dickriders who are in denial of his terrible rapping skills.

  68. “I thought jeezy was definitely one of them. I remember drake saying in an interview that he used to listen to and was inspiried by jeezy, and he had him on the album. but as we all know, jeezy has definitely fallen off. dude has failed to get tm103 out like 3 times now

    wutangshogun”

^I thought about that for a split second, I should have put Jeezy now that you mention it.

  69. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kergZaqgyDo&feature=related

  70. Why would he be talking about Big L? How about eminem, the dude thats fallen off harder than anyone.

  71. not talking about kanye, drake is on record sayin that mbdtf was the best rap album in 10 years or something like that. that list was garbage tho, doubt lil kim was one of his favorites that fell off haha smh

  72. How is Drake a one-hit wonder?! JMAC did you even take the time to proofread your shit before you clicked “submit comment” or do you actually like to be perceived as a buffoon?

  73. lmao Drake gets that much hate to the point where everything he says on a track is takin as subliminal shots? niggas want rappers to beef lol. Can’t we just say Drake was adressing everyone when he said what he said? If you’re a Drake(any artist) fan you’re a dickrider but the haters dickride the dude more than the fans do

  74. You people can’t read. “My favorite rappers either lost it or they ain’t alive” — the ain’t alive part isn’t disrespect. he’s simply saying his favorite rappers are dead. or they fell off. why are people up in arms about Big L being listed? I couldn’t think of anyone else more deserving. considering DJ Screw was, well..a DJ and not a rapper.

the list is just 10 possible rappers that the line could’ve been intended for. nowhere does it say “THIS IS WHO DRAKE WAS TALKING ABOUT WITH THE LINE”

ya’ll reading WAY too much into it. “here’s 10 ppl drake could’ve been talking about, and here’s some reasons why, if he was”

what’s so blasphemous about that? damn niggas. btw. you do know in this rap industry, your favorite rappers AREN’T all friends despite what they may say in an interview right? read Prodigy’s book.
