1) Lawrence v. Texas ruled anti-sodomy laws unconstitutional in 2003. There is no state in the country that outlaws gay sex.
2) The Matthew Shepard Act of 2009 added percieved gender, gender identity and sexual orientation to the Civil Rights Act of 1968′s hate crime protections. This protects against even verbal assault.
So it seems like the only rights that you’ve brought up that have not already been awarded to the homosexual community would be the right to marriage (in some states) and hospital visitation (in some states). Obviously it’s still wrong, and ought to be corrected, and I’m sure it will be. But to compare that to the oppression of African Americans through the 1960′s is completely out of line.
