SoulCulture.TV caught up with Compton emcee Kendrick Lamar at SXSW 2011 to grab his thoughts on being hailed the future of West Coast Hip Hop, growing up listening to NWA on his father’s encouragement and the experience of now working with Dr. Dre on his long-awaited Detox LP, featuring as an XXL Freshman, the need for quality and consistency in music and life and working on a new album for 2012 ["I treat every project like it's an album anyway"].

  15. i feel like he’s talking about an entirely separate project for 2012. he just said he was pushing back the cole album until later, he wouldn’t go over a year without releasing new material, especially with the hype of section80 as high as it is right now.

  20. To all the people who don’t get the “Graduating high school > Tyler” reference. Most Odd Future fans say things like “Fuck Steve Harvey”, “Golf Wang”, “Fuck School”, etc. Those same kids who say “Fuck School” are the ones who are going to be washing dishes, bagging groceries and any other menial task that doesn’t require an education. The fact that Tyler says “Fuck School”, but graduated from high school is pretty ironic in itself. I’m not into making generalizations, but I would like to make a guess that 80% of OF’s fans are sexually frustrated suburbanite teenagers attempting to “rebel” against the norm of society by listening to these horrorcore wannabes.

    Note: I’m not a ‘hater’ of Odd Future, but I think it’s time to silence their fans. Frank Ocean is dope, but the rest of the OF camp are purely made up of gimmicks.
