Wale Speaks On KiD CuDi, Rick Ross & More

Wale and Complex got together for a spot of tea and a brief interview. Some choice quotes:

“[CuDi and I] just felt like it’s time. Like, ‘Man, we used to be cool. We used to hang every day. Fuck all the bullshit.’ We both had a little bit of turmoil in our lives, but we’re both in a happy place now.”

“I’m the deep-thinking, spend too much money on sneakers, member of Maybach Music. I’m not out there trying to do what Pill’s doing or Rozay’s doing. I am the deep-thinking, overly analytical–maybe sometimes emotional—but it’s that same emotional as ‘Pac for me. What they call emotional now, they call it whining.”

“In [the Internet] world they’re fickle. They like me, but very conditionally.”

“But I hope the fans understand that the album’s not going to sound like a hundred Lex Luger beats and Wale. It’s going to sound the way Attention Deficit meant to sound. It’s still going to have the great syntax. I still want to work with K’Naan. But you know how hard it was to get such and such in the studio before? Such and such ain’t no problem now. No problem. But this time now, I’m at the point where I realize I don’t need such and such. I could do my whole album with any producer. I’m so in a zone right now. When I signed with Warner and they heard my new songs, even they were surprised. They were like, ‘I didn’t know Wale was like that.’”

  1. can’t wait for his next solo project

  2. WALE IS A FUCKING BUM AND MIXTAPE RAPPER.. FUCK IT

  3. dammit, I wanted 100 luger beats & Wale

  4. Wale is very underrated

  5. ^
    yes he is.

  6. I’d like to hear another wale and k’naan track
saw them in concert together and it was dope

  7. Good sign that he still wants to make ‘real’ music too..

  8. Wale is a good lyricist and is true to himself, I respect that. I’ve noticed that people have turned on him on the internet for joining maybach music but i think people should chill until his next project comes out. How quickly people forget the 2 classic tapes(mixtape about nothing, more about nothing) and the very solid album he has under his belt. I think his next album will be dope, hope he works with justice league and stally extensively that would be a very good look!

  9. I’m still a fan.

  10. definitely still a fan, cant wait for his new shit

  11. Dude is nice, people just wanna hear dope & swag. Fuk that, rap about some cool shit, positive, success..
I heard some of the shyt from International O new EP, and all i can say is 2DOPEBOYZ should not deny him this go-round!!!!

  12. If Wale can do his thing and drop music with the same quality as before, then by all means go get that money.

  13. Yet if the album flops Wale will be the first one to blame his label, just like Lupe did. Don’t go try to get the money then bitch when you don’t have creative control…you sell yourself, and be ready for the consequences. I like Wale, I thought his Mixtape About Nothing was crazy good…but Attention Deficit was average at best. He sounds bitchy in interviews too.

  14. Wale needs to go back to working with Mark that 100 miles and running and mix tape about nothing was his best shit

  15. @beasleyrockah Bitch Shut the hell up! lupe told his TRUE FANS lasers wasn’t going to be as good as Food & Liquor or The Cool and not to mention Wale had more control over his album than lupe had so who’s fault is that?

  16. I want that BKS, Osinachi and Mark Ronson prouction! I thought Attention Deficit was really good, partly thanks to the beats. Maybe less features and NO GUCCI this time around.

  17. Will be getting Self-Made, but definitely anticipating Wale’s next solo. Hopefully no MMG features. Wale is dope, some ppl just hate because they can.

  18. his upcoming shit could be really dope…if he’s actually in the zone

  19. by his own accord, the upcoming album sounds promising

  20. Wale is smart. He made a power move. Go where they can see you. Nothing wrong with exposure as long as you do something with it.

Wayne (kinda) did it when he flooded the market in leading up to C3. At this point he’s running on fumes of that mainstream hype, but if C4 turns out to be C2-ish then his ex-fans will rejoice, and the mainstream fans will support it just cause they’re sheep.

Wiz is on that path now with his antics. ‘Ye did it with 808′s then came back with a fucking Masterpiece.

I know its old as heck but i havent listened to ‘Mixtape About Nothing’ yet but if its at least as good as ‘More About Nothing’ then cool. But Attention Deficit is solid. I expect his next solo project to be quality.

  21. wale is that nigga.

  22. I guess I’m the only one that peeped that Kanye subliminal in that last quote

Wale had ta be talking bout Ye

  23. i remember a complex interview where cudi flat out said fuck wale (in a few words more but that was the summation). i think wale on some sissy shit unless im missing something. DC niggas dont rep this dude no way.

  24. beasleyrockah: Lupe’s album didn’t flop. He blamed his record company for forcing him to make music that he didn’t want to.

    Big difference.

D.ynamicv: Wiz sucks. Besides that he’s not a very talented rapper.

Rap right now is in the old Das Efx, Lords of the Underground stage right before the Chronic came out. Where rappers who are really shouldn’t be considered that talented blow up because there is a void in the game. That would be Wiz.
