R.I.P. Keith “Guru” Elam (7/17/1961 – 4/19/2010)

An entire year later, and it’s still a bit hard to digest the fact that another one of Hip-Hop’s Gods and Greats has physically left us, and way too soon. The whole unfortunate deal about Guru’s passing was the drama that ensued with his passing (I won’t mention this other person’s name as he’s still in hiding like the bitch he is) and the theatrical work supplied by that same person, which, in my eyes, seemed to push aside the Hip-Hop communities time to really mourn and pay respects to this legendary man.

Guru, along with a short list of dearly departed greats, left such an extensive and celebrated discography that even the most thorough Guru / Gang Starr fan will spend years discovering released and unreleased music. Add to the fact that DJ Premier will hold his man down forever, and will be soon releasing a bevy of unreleased material in audio and visual formats, we as rap fans can all rest assured that Guru’s legacy will always remain in tact.
