Jay Rock – Do You Know f. Kokane

If you’re from the West, you’d remember that there were a shit-ton of Nate Dogg-alikes that were constantly coming out, and that Kokane (or, in some cases, Mr. Kane) was one such b-alike. Anyways, he links up with the TDE spokesperson on this Diana Ross-sampled cut.

  3. yea, sometimes the dope boyz speak on shit and Im like “what are they talking about?”….like when they said the dunk contest was wack, uhhh, noooo, it was actually one of the best in years…Kokane was no “nate dogg be alike or wanna be or whateva”, he had his own style and had been doing the shit…I dont know who was doing it first, I mean both go way back, but Kokane is not “be alike”….

  4. Yeah Mek, That mis-information is not a good look. You ever heard “Nickel Slick Nigga”?

  5. Kokane was rockin way back in the day in the mid eighties with Above The Law.. dope shit tho..

  6. No K-Dot? No Ab-soul? No ScHoolboy? No fuckin’ download.

  7. Yeah what the hell? Kokane is an OG. Nate’s an OG too, but Kokane is no “b-alike.”

  8. Jay Rock > Black hippy < Kendrick Lamar

  9. Meka trying to teach us Hip-Hop smh
Kokane was fucking with NWA and Above The Law before a Nate Dogg appeared

  10. I been a fan of this site for a minute, way before okayplayer, way before all these ignorant hip hop heads found y’all. I kno that don’t mean shit, but my point is I’ve never been annoyed by anything Meka r Shake have said even if I differ. But to call Mr Kane a b-like c’mon son! And he was makin music before we ever heard of a Nate Dogg(get well soon) and I hope I get to hear atleast one more Nate assisted track before his soul leaves us…

  11. no, tha fuck u didn’t just degrade kokane to a “b-alike”.. ur west coast hip-hop pass revoked…

  12. yeah kokane is a b-alike since he was around for a year or so before nate even appeared. lol. please do some research the next time u try to say some slck shit about a west coast veteran

  13. Yall are stupid. Nate Dogg hit the scene in 98′ and kokane did in 91.

  14. looks like some teenagers are running this site. dig deeper before u talk nonsense like that

  15. NIGGA! STFU AND JUST POST MUSIC CUZ, YOU NIGGAS (MEKA) DON’T KNOW SHIT ABOUT MUSIC JUST POST MUSIC A SITCHO ASS DOWN CUZ! … Jay Rocc Did His Thing On This , Dope Lyrics!

  16. battle3.. a year or so before? SMH y’all new school niggas get up on the history of this shit y’all so called love.. No wonder nobody takes hip-hop fans serious..

  17. kokane has been around since late 89 early 90, nate dogg 91. im not going by when they released their first album or anything like that, get ur facts straight

  18. this site is right in a lot of cases, but it just lost some of my respect. calling kokane a b-like, what the fuck? koka was rocking this style way before people even heard of a nate. meka needs to be schooled on og west coast hip hop cause that was some ignorant shit to say.

  19. Like Everybody Else Said…& Dem Fools Don’t Even Sound Alike…How Is That Even A Comparison??

  22. Meka I’m from DUblin Ireland and even i know koka was around in the 80s with above the law , and 2ndly kokane always says nate is king of the hook , kokane is well respected by george clinton and parliment and all hip hop heads because he has originality , i dont remeber him even tryin to imitate nate dogg , @meka i think u need to stop dick licking drake and j cole and respect the people who put it down for the coast u are meant to be from man ,

  23. @ Smith Diddy

    OUCH!!!

    hahahaha

  24. Dont 4get OFWGKTA on mtv http://thedetroitzuu.blogspot.com/2011/02/ofwgkta-to-make-mtv-debut-today.html

  25. that was some real shit jay rock .

  26. I’m glad everybody already schooled you Meka, and for the record Kokane is really more of a funk singer, in the tradition of George Clinton, Bootsy, etc. Above The Law was doing G-Funk before Dre brought it to the masses. Please respect our veterans, you’re “b-alike” comment was hella disrespectful..

  27. Yeah. come the fuck on. If Kokane owes anything to anyone, it’s to george clinton

  28. SMiTH DiDDy DOgg loool hahahaha. Meka im from Bay region in somalia and even i knew koka 4 long time way b4 Wrong Idea

  29. Another really dope track from Jay Rock & the TDE camp! Kokane hook is really nice too!

  30. 1. Kokane sounds nothing like Nate Dogg. He’s an extension of the mothership connection, baby (George Clinton all day). 2. Nate Dogg was not known in any way, shape or form until he came out on the Chronic, which was in ’93. I remember cuz that was my senior year in high school & the Chronic dropped in the middle of my basketball season that year. Kokane had been around since the 80′s with ATL, etc. But, again, that shouldn’t even matter cuz he doesn’t even sound anything like Nate Dogg.

  31. Damn this Nate Dogg b-alike was illon the hook!

  32. no guys, Meka has it right.

Kokane is a Nate Dogg b-alike
George Clinton is a Kokane b-alike
and James Brown is a George Clinton b-alike.

    Nate Dogg was the pioneer
