I think if your in the music business you should try to be successful and blow up. If you rap just for the love thats ok too but I think why people get mad when a artist blows up is cause they dont wanna see a mc that they supported turn into a coon in a dj Khaled welcome to my hood video. I think the fast life of entertainment and the false sense of greatness that fame gives a rapper makes them forget why they started rappin in the 1st place. I think if you come from nothin and become a big mainstream rapper you should add on quality music to the game and keep it real in the music , not just try to make up a fake bad guy from a movie image because when reality sets in if you aint who you have claimed to be in the past you just end up lookin foolish. Out of all the rappers to super blow up its funny how the rapper that everyone claims is soft and weak , ( Drake ) kept it the most real in his lyrics , made the most money, came to the game with his own sound and makes quality shit without tap dancing in blackface for the fans.
The reason I don’t buy CDs of rappers that I like is because the CDs are garbage. The mixtapes are way better. Maybe they should release the CDs as mixtapes and sell the mixtapes in stores instead. Then I will buy it. You can’t tell me the music Wiz is making now isn’t different then what people have loved for free!
^Maybe you’re just cheap. How people claim to be fans and like an artist yet everytime the artist drops music you have to pay for, niggas is no where to be found. That’s why Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Kesha’s of the world are poppin. Because their fans actually support their music when it’s not given away.
I do pay for music if it fills two criteria:
1. It’s good.
2. It’s out on vinyl.
The thing is though many artists change their style quite a bit from their mixtapes to albums and it’s not about supporting the artist but that which made you like the artist might be gone, why should you buy a album you don’t like? Just because you liked his mixtape? That doesn’t make sense.
B.o.B is the prime example for me, his album was straight pop and his mixtapes were some intreseting hip hop/rap/singy mashup, I liked the mixtapes not the album so I didn’t buy it, he’s getting his money though so I can’t hate.
great editorial…been thinking the same thing lately. its crazy how much ones popularity can switch back and forth. i remember the day curren$y announced he signed to warner it was like a digital lynchmob erupted before even hearing anything new from him.
