(2)Deep: Street Smartz – Metal Thangz f. O.C. & Pharoahe Monch

Some ’96 shit, as heard on Premo’s classic New York Reality Check 101 presented by the legendary Haze. These days, the price of that compilation has skyrocketed. Some dude on Discogs is selling the cassette version of this for a buck followed by two ciphers. Back to the single: as big a Buckwild fan as I am, I always preferred the B-side, although Problemz is far from weak. Verbal boxing at it’s finest.

  1. Shit is timeless…

  2. I got the Reality Check cassette still. I went to check if I had the vinyl, but I can’t find it. I did find the Tru Criminal EP. It has the “Eddie James” produced version of Metal Thangz, and some other goodies, specifically the Lord Finesse and Buckwild-produced tracks.

  3. ^^^ Word. You tryna part with that tape? I don’t know, wasn’t feeling the Metal Thangz remix, nor the Finesse joint, although the AK Skills joint is raw as fuck.

  4. Didn’t this cat also go by the name FT?

  5. Haha, nah I’ll hang on to it. I got about 2,000 vintage tapes taking up space in the closet, but I can’t even think about gettin rid of those. And yeah, I’m more of a pre-Awakening fan of Finesse production. Wasn’t really ever a fan of filtered basslines. But I don’t mind anything on the EP.

  6. buck w/ 2 ciphers? verbal boxing? gtfo gramps

  9. Who’s the silly ass non-believer that disliked this?

Ill track, makes me wanna slap my face. I fucks with any OC over Buckwild, Pharoahe never disappoints & I’ve never heard of Street Smartz but I’m most definetly feeling him. ’bout to do some history on dude.
