Slang Editorial: Slaughterhouse & Yelawolf: The Future, Or Future Tax Write-Offs?

There are pros and cons with this signing. Hopefully the pros will outweigh the cons; I don’t think I wanna wait ten years to hear Slaughterhouse over a Dre beat. I just don’t have that kind of patience anymore.

  1. It took 10 years for Detox, it’ll take more to hear Slaughterhouse on a Dr Dre beat.

  2. exactly.

  3. Yeah, we don’t want to wait, that could be a problem.

    It’s crazy what happened to

    Obie Trice
    Bishop Lamont
    Stat Quo
    Ca$his
    Bobby Creekwater
    Raekwon
Busta Rhymes (album delay of 3 yrs.)
    Rakim
    D12
    Eve
    Joell Ortiz
    Slim da Mobster

    and who else?

  4. the thing is not every1 is that marketable, i think shady is gonna sign them to prob go on bigger tours and attack that way, rather than focusing more on getting album sales, i think thats how they all survived having core followings n getting shows, now they can go on bigger n bigger ones. ppl say its a long shot and i think it is. not beacsue there bad but becasue there just….i dunno..too hiphop ..people dont actually want that really anymore thats not wat sells album wize, ppl want something they DONT have to think about. and sh makes u think , lyrically.

  5. Here’s my opinion on this whole matter…The way Shady Records was handled before, is the past. I think Eminem didn’t know what he was doing, plus with the drugs in his life, nothing mattered to him. I think now with his sobriety and the way he’s matured a lot recently, he is going to really step up to the game with Shady Records as a functioning label that will hopefully going to bring success to lots of artists. I think so far he’s starting strong with the new signees.

  6. Good article. Shady only really messed up with Stat, Cashiss and Creekwater when you think about it. Obie dropped a platinum album followed but a really good album (though it didn’t sell). D12 sold well, 50 is 50, etc. They just need to be marketed right. The tour shit above me is pretty spot on, and yela will blow up, it’s just a matter of when.

  7. @BillyClint , I gotta cosign that. If I was Em of course I would want to sell more records but Shady records has already sold 40 million records. So I wouldnt trip on sells that much cause those same 4o million who supported before will still be around at some point. My goal would be making my own lane. Im the type that will follow a formula but im not gonna follow a someone elses path. SH is a lyrical group so I wouldnt try to be all commercial and pop. For what ? Thats Wakas lane , they need to stay n their own lane. If people like it cool , if not so what. Go sell some concert tickets either way they gonna get paid. Its more important to focus on making a million dollars then it is to focus on selling a million records.

  8. I’d actually be surprised if there wouldn’t be at least one SH album on Shady as Marshall seems to be very excited about it and getting involved in it personally, Em has a ear for what sounds good so it should be solid, will they be a smash hit on the radio? Probably not.

  9. I don’t see SH making major waves but I wish they would. Yelawolf could get pretty big though.

  10. Ayo whattup this that nigga Big Ghost aka the Mighty Hand of Zeus in the flesh nahmeans. Word. To keep it real with yalls I aint even read this article nahmeans. 11. yo BIG GHOSTFACE ur my hero

  13. Slaughterhouse are some lyrical beast, but these cats ain’t crossing over. They just don’t have that star factor IMO. There’s certain artist that are marketable and certain artist that aren’t. Marketability or lack there of, doesn’t necessarily mean they are or aren’t talented, it’s just how it is. Yelawolf, that dude annoys me, and I don’t think he’s that good anyway, he seems like a skinnier Paul Wall with a more high pitched voice. #Donthateonmyopinion

  14. Hey shake and meka, could you start posting dubstep? Itd be dope becuase its like impossible to find…

  15. like their not broken up into single files. Like post mixtapes and EPs and stuff thats dubstep. Itd be really dope.

  16. HAHAHAHAH yeah 2dopeboyz is gonna turn into 2ravefags…fuck outta here with that dubstep shit.

  17. SlaughterHouse is marketable , people just need to do the work. If Rick ross , gucci mane and lloyd banks is marketable then so is SH. The problem is grown men at labels allow the kids to decide whats tight. So if the kids say LIL B is dope , Label heads just say ok. Thats stupid. Every time Jayz is about to drop a album what do people say hes too old , he sucks , he wears suits so he aint hip hop. Then what happens he drops 11 number one albums in a row like its nothin. Being marketable just goes with what you believe , if you think somethins not marketable your right but if you think it is marketable your also right. Theres a billion people in the world so somebody is gonna like Slaughter…

    I fucking died…

  20. Lol @ higgs, dubstep isnt rave music dumbass. Your probably one of those people who comes here for the gucci mane and waka flocka haha. And dude dont just limit yourself to one genre of music. SO you sir, are one dumb fucker.

  21. Yelawolf could appeal to the mainstream, but I could never see suburban kids listening to Slaughterhouse.

  22. Seems like the ‘thumbs up thumbs down’ rating feature has been removed for this post.

  23. u kno its not always Dre or Em’s fault that shit happened the way it did….they may be established artists and hav their own label but they still gotta answer to Mr Interscope

  24. Dre needs to just give them a beat CD of unusued / recycled / throw away beats and let them do a “welcome” mixtape … not like they don’t put out enough free music individually and as a collective but it won’t be long IMO to hear something mixtape-style come out produced by Dr Dre.

  25. jesus. is EVERYONE a fuckin a expert?

  26. word @ “I’d actually be surprised if there wouldn’t be at least one SH album on Shady as Marshall seems to be very excited about it and getting involved in it personally, Em has a ear for what sounds good so it should be solid, will they be a smash hit on the radio? Probably not.”

  27. thank you marty mcfly….the first person i’ve ever heard advocate more involvement by label heads instead of a grassroots buildup.

    well done, sire.

  28. i love yelawolf. i have faith in him
