DJ Premier made his way to Chicago a few weeks ago for the Red Bull Big Tune finals and ImFlashy.com had the opportunity to sit down with him to talk about what he’s been up to lately. In part one of our exclusive interview with the legendary producer, we discuss his role with the BET cyphers and how BET is sitting on exclusive footage of Busta Rhymes’ cypher but didn’t put it out because he didn’t want to. Premier also discusses his upcoming project, his new artists and to wrap up, he mentions possibly doing some work on Drake’s upcoming sophomore album and that Drake is currently working with 9th Wonder.

Premier needs to learn to stick to his guns a little more. I know he isn’t getting a lot of work from the big name credible artists he helped build (Jay and Nas), or the ones he’s been trying to work with (Em and Kanye), but come on.
One minute he’s talking about how hip hop needs to toughen up and get off that soft faggoty weak bullshit, the next he’s saying Drake is a better artist than J.Cole, and now he’s on that kid’s dick yet again.
Preem, you’re a legend, you don’t need to be kissing ass like this.

@GeorgeClooney , I know your a hip hop head so its all good , but pound for pound Jcole cant Fuck wit Drake. Drizzy probably has close to a hundred songs out there in the street. I know Drake aint hardcore Hip hop , but he was good for hip hop. Hes one of the first new artist in a long time to not make up lies and bullshit in his music and he not only raps good but he sings and gots his own style of beats. If we keep askin Drake to do more in music , thats being unrealistic. I love hard hip hop to the fullest , but not everybody has that gangsta story in them and that should be ok. Drake has bars ( the verse from FOREVER ) and hes workin with 9th wonder for his new album. Thats hip hop.

I admit I’m not a Drake fan, but I think Preem’s making acceptions cos he’s looking to stay working. Drake’s music goes against everything he talks about as pure in hip hop. When criticizing the current trends in rap, he simultaneously knocks the kind of rapper that Drake is, yet, in the next interview, talks about wanting to work with the main dude doin that kind of music.

GTFOH! Drake does not deserve to work with any of these producers yet.

Dont get me wrong , I know there are way better artist then Drake , but I do have a good memory. That nigga had more hits on radio then any other artist in rap ever , before his album dropped. He had the respect of the whole industry , had multi-million dollar deals on the table from every power house in hip hop. He was on top of the charts in two genres of music at one time. He had a 50 cent kinda buzz , and didnt even speak on no gangsta shit. Then he delivers a platinum album. COME ON SON!!! Even though I clown him on his clothes. Its gonna be a long time before we see another Drake. Im just sayin , and my favorite album at the time was Cuban Linx 2 , im a hip hop head forreal.

i think it comes down to carving your own lane and being good at what you do. drake has actually put out alot of good songs, but i think his “degrassi” image overrisdes the good he has done (light up, forever, so far gone) and people deem him as overly corny. Every1 loved him when he was making mixtapes..then they considered him “real” now hes blown up hes corny but i dnt think he changed his style that much…just now he was more features taht hes on. but wateva hiphop is in a good place rite now..far from the dark days of “hiphop is dead”.
