Earlier this year The Source decided to give Bun B’s Trill O.G. their “prestigious” 5 Mics (/no shots). I guess since they got the publicity they were looking for, they decided to do it again. Not saying Ye’s album isn’t really dope (it’s definitely in my top 3 of the year), but I just don’t think it’s a certified classic. Then again, we’re talking magazine ratings in 2010. Nevermind. Look for the full review in the December/January issue (w/ Rick Ross and Wiz Khalifa on the cover), which hits newsstands December 14th.

Shake shut your faggot ass up. Kanye’s album is great!
Nah Shake it’s a classic lol
it is a classic in many’s opinion. it’s hard to tell right now, but it is DEFINITELY better than Trill OG.
u ask me the album is classic unlike Graduation which I know most ppl will argue is but this album is classic to me imo because Kanye seem to have put his soul into this and it flows pretty flawlessly all together even if we did hear like 4 songs or more ff it before its release I can listen to it front and back
whats the point of saying its not classic??? a site this big shouldnt give opinions especially dumb ones
“whats the point of saying its not classic??? a site this big shouldnt give opinions especially dumb ones”
it’s my site you doorknob. i’m allowed to express any and every opinion i damn well please haha.
HATERZ!!! give em a extra mic for the good fridays and the million dollar video.
I do think it deserves 5 mics, definitely the best Kanye album and seriously, just listen to the production. Its next level.
To me it’s a classic. The Source is a joke though…
They’re not the only ones dubbing it a classic I haven’t read one review for this album that didn’t give it a perfect or near perfect score. Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, EW, XXL, Spin, NY Magazine, Village Voice etc. If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck…
^^ and a “near perfect score” it deserves.
Definitely a classic, can’t argue with that.
The Source X 5 MIC
Kanye West deserves it !!!
Devil in a new dress !!! my fav track
The Source got it right that album is crazy.
This album is wack unless you like Lady Gaga mixed with a Kid Cudi sound. People should be ashamed to call this album hip hop, it’s POP music. It also isn’t a 5 mic album no matter what genre it is, I would say 4 the most.
You can’t really say if something is classic or not when it just came out two weeks ago…
Magazines just rate the albums. No one is really calling it classic to be honest. If all the songs are dope, they get a 5 of 5. It’s just a rating system, not the almighty word of Hip Hop Gods.
Let’s go!
The Source is BACK!
Sidenote: Why don’t you guys view what other credible Music Publications rated MBDTF and then, say something about it being “swayed”.
It’s a good album ya’ll.
No hate, more Love.
It should get about mics. The ones that comes with Dell PC’s.
You can smell a classic out gate when its a REAL classic. . .The Source got it right clap for em. . . ya’ll straight tripin’
ILL AGREE WITH THAT , I WOULD HAVE GIVEN IT A 4.5 BUTS THAT DAMN NEAR A 5 ANYWAY. THIS ALBUM IS A GAME CHANGER , AND IT MOST LIKELY WILL STAND THE TEST OF TIME. SO ITS A CLASSIC.
Dear 2DopeBoyz, Shut the fuck up with you bias opinion and just put up your posts. Nobody wants you bitch ass opinion. You only wish you had anywhere near the history of the Source. Who the fuck are you — Nobody… Bitch. True hatred is indifference and all you bitch ass anti Source dick sucking little in your mommas basement geek ass nobodies need to get back jerkin off. Fagot.
shake u fn serious? its one of the best albums ever made bro
STFU kid cudi with gaga. Go microwave yourself.
And Shake is only doing his job here folks. Stirring conversation. Whether his opinion is wrong or not that’s what he’s doing.
Album is definitely more deserving of 5 Mics than Trill OG.
It amazes me how The Source has completely raped their own concept- 5 mics used to actually mean something. This is not a 5 mic album.
All of the lights! Itz a classic, but who cares about the Source anymore really.
I LIKE THE ALBUMS IDK CLASSIC BUT CLOSE BUT ITS CLASSIC AS IN, HE HAS EVERY MIXED GENRE IN ONE PACKAGED ALBUM AND IT ACTUALLY FLOWED WELL LYRICS ARE HONEST AS USUAL IT WILL GROW INTO A CLASSIC LIKE REASONABLE DOUBT OVERLOOKED THAN FINALLY RECOGNIZED AS A GREAT ALBUM! SORRY FOR THE CAPS, BUT THE ALBUMS LONGPLAY IS THE DOWNFALL BUT SHORTER ALBUMS MAKES LESS ROOM FOR ERROR KUDOS
Even though I don’t think Kanye’s album is perfect, it’s been receiving perfect or near-perfect scores from everywhere. I don’t have a problem with this.
I have no idea what they were thinking giving Trill OG 5 mics though.
Kanye West is faggot rap, listen to Vinnie Paz or AZ, fuck Kanye West
‘Freeway Stimulus Package’ Album Of The Year
I agree with shake. Kanye is favorite rapper HANDS DOWN. But this album is nowhere near a classic. Late registration is a fuckin’ classic. But MBDTF is overall about 3.5 maybe 4 mics top. Don’t let the epic movie style intros and breaks fool you. You can’t have a classic album if there is no replayability *not sure if that’s a word lol*. There are only maybe 4 or 5 songs that you can bang to @ anytime. But by no means in any jeans am I sayin’ trill og is a classic smh. Its aiite. That’s it…aiite.
The Source is back and yall niggas still want to hate… the content speaks for itself. I like what there doing over there plus! they can Spell LOL
Are you high? That album is a certified classic x 2
SORRY FOR THE CAPS, BUT THE ALBUMS LONGPLAY IS THE DOWNFALL BUT SHORTER ALBUMS MAKES LESS ROOM FOR ERROR KUDOS
sorry for the double post
There needs to be a moratorium on the word “Classic” when talking about hip hop albums. How can people call an album a classic the moment it’s released? I know magazines want to have ratings systems in order to attract customers to a dying form of information, but you have to let an album sit for at least a few months before you start giving it “classic” status. Hip hop fans are so quick to call albums classics cause there hasn’t been a unanimous, no doubt about it “classic” album in hip hop in a long time. Don’t mistake personal “classics” to universally recognized hip hop classics. Kanye’s album is good, but I have to let it sit for a while and see if it has that lasting power before I give it “classic” status.
production is incredible…lyrically the album kinda sucks
Distant Relatives is a 5 mic album, MBDTF is about a 4.5 mic album, Trill OG is more like a 3 mic album…real talk
I want the instrumental for this joint…musically, who can touch Kanye right now. Event though he worked with other producers on this joint he still had input behind the boards on every track i bet…
fuck that were ARE THEG.O.O.D. FRIDAYS
Let The Source rate and give the reviews Shake.
YO SHAKE, out of curiousity, what ARE your top 3 albums for 2010?
just wondering, i’d like to check em out if i havent already. thanks.
Ye’s album deserves it in my opinion, but so does Big Boi’s, 4 1/2 mics didn’t do “Sir Lucious” justice.
I think they gave it to Bun for this one ’cause as a retroactive thing because Underground Kingz really deserved to be the UGK album to receive the honor. Trill O.G. is a good album, but not the classic they made it out to be.
It’s still a positive though, anything that brings positive shine to dope artists.
no one would have a problem if it was 4 mics, but to give it 5 mics is too far. you can’t put this pretty good Kanye album in the same category as classics like Illmatic by Nas, The Chronic by Dr. Dre and Criminal Minded by BDP
The real winner here is the television program “Family Matters” which gets a shout out in both Kanye’s (to many urkles — thats why your wins low) and Spitta’s albums (cops = carl winslows)
@Shakingmyhead.Tell ‘em,nigga!
Album is classic, if they gave it to Trill OG and then decided not to give it to Ye, that would make no sense! This is rly overdue though, because College Dropout & Late Registration would’ve been reasonable 5 mic recipients
By Source’s standards, every album better than Trill O.G. deserves 5 mics. lol
So does this mean that diddy’s new album will be getting 5 “mics” as well?
are you fuckin kidding? Gorgeous WOULD be the only good song if it didn’t have that faggot-ass effect on it. 5 mics? Did they happen to hear How I Got Over by The Roots? Revs Per Minute by Reflection Eternal? Tape Deck by Skyzoo & !llmind? those all deserve at least 4.5 mics, this Kanye shit deserves 1.5 at the most.. SMH
gooooood fridays!!!????
I thought the album was boring as hell, I’d give it 3 mics at the very most.
I actually like when Shake and Meka give their opinions
its great quality music! I don’t think its just hip hop its all around musical which deserves its classic rating! i’ll give it a 4.5 right now but down the line you already know it deserves the whole pie!
ATLEAST when kanye mixes pop with hip-hop/rap it dont sound watered down; its actually something that you can play for more than 5 minutes!
CLASSIC & ALBUM OF THE YEAR!!! I normally never complain about anything Shake says, but he’s also the guy who advertised Asher Roth’s wack ass album all over 2Dbz
The Source is not alone at all on this one. Almost every publication and review has been perfect or very near perfect. Illmatic was given classic status when it first came out. So did Life After Death. So did Aquemini. A classic can be recognized out the gate. I understand everybody is not gonna be agree with the ratings but just realize you are in the very very small minoriity in that respect. Plus in a way I think the Source might be doing this to make up for not giving College Dropout or Late Registration 5. Anybody else?
man i cant believe you all bought into the hype bullshit kanye was shouting. you all acting like he jesus.
the album is good, not a classic though.
RIGHT NOW its fucking impossible to tell if its a classic cos to be a classic you gotta stand up to the test of time. albums only been out like 2 weeks!
@Shake: “and a near perfect score it deserves.”
Classic album doesn’t mean its a perfect album. There’s a big difference. There’s possibly no such thing as a unanimously perfect album. You can label an album classic w/o it being perfect of course. Black on Both Sides imo opinion is a perfect/classic album, but very few people would call it perfect.
Kanye’s album is groundbreaking. From a sonic point of view alone, we’ve never heard an album that sounded this grandiose. It definitely moves hip hop in another direction. It will definitely change the way hip-hop sounds in the future. The fact that it has a metacritic average review rating of an unprecedented 92 makes it classic. To say it didn’t get a perfect review from everyone is a ridiculous assessment on whether the album is classic. Its clearly a classic. But at the end of the day, music is subjective man so I can’t force you to call MBDTF a classic haha.
Disclaimer: I still think College Dropout is better, but guess what guys…one artist is allowed to have more than one classic album.
The album is dope no doubt…and it most likely will go down as a classic, but I think they need to open up the vaults then and @ least give “College Dropout” the same treatment as well!!!
@Shake: “and a near perfect score it deserves.”

I agree with Shake.. both of kanyes first 3 albums I can play regularly and they don’t lose their appeal therefore they should receive a classic rating. This album as a huge kanye fan does not disappoint, but i haven’t listened to it as much as the past albums. I remember those three albums set the tone for my life at the moment. MBDTF does not do that for me. I doubt there’ll ever be another “classic” album in hip hop with the way it’s going anyway.
This album is among the best albums of 2010…but it’s not a classic like these critics are saying.
Music-wise and production-wise, this album is stellar. The lyrics and rhymes on this though was honestly average. It was ADD rap all the way through. There’s definitely some joints I like, but I skip through this album like crazy only listening to Hell Of A Life, Blame Game, Gorgeous, and that’s about it.
SMH…these critics will be quick to call Kanye an a$$hole but give him so much hype and love that the sh** is…f***ing ridiculous. (That was a little joke…Voila!)
why is this album getting called
classic when kanye doesnt even rap about anything
threw the whole album other then satan lol and you
have features on the album with rick ross & nicki minaj
BE REAL!
what about THE LEFT NEW ALBUM OR BOOG BROWN?
all this dick riding smhhh! the album isnt a FUCKING CLASSIC!
The Source is a joke along with all you folks calling every album you vibe to a “classic.” I feel as though a classic is an album you listen to all the way through and enjoying every single track. Then listen to the album another 25 times straight through and see if it still is a “classic.” In addition to having replay value, the album should have at least 15 tracks, not 11.
In my opinion, MBDTF is a great album but not a classic. For me, there isn’t enough rapping and too much autotone. Dark Fantasy, Gorgeous, Power, Devil In A New Dress, and Hell Of A Life are all some of my favorite rap songs of the year. All Of The Lights was a fail and Kanye tried to make it “EPIC” while it would probably be more enjoyable to the masses with him and Drake, as originally planned. Lost In The World is one of my least favorite songs to come out all year, along with Ke$ha and Lady Gaga’s songs. Kanye should have put that bullshit on 808′s not MBDTF. My last beef with MBDTF is the voice effect Kanye uses on his verses on Gorgeous, wtf was that. It sounds scratchy on my $5 headphones, and without that voice effect, it probably would have been my favorite on the album.
I would give it 4 Mics and would say the 5 best songs are 1. Hell Of A Life, 2. Power, 3. Devil In A New Dress, 4. Dark Fantasy, and 5. Gorgeous.
Honestly you could nit pick any album and question it’s classic status.
*reads what D. $cience said*
*starts clapping*
yeah the album is good I wouldnt say it was a classic I think people callin it a classic cause production wise ye took it to another level but he coulda came lyrically harder on the album I feel but college drop out late registration those are classics
if any album deserved it, i’d say it was this one.
XXL’s ratings mean more than The Source… (which MBDTF did receive a XXL rating as well, 1st since Clipse’s Hell Hath No Fury)
sint it a little early to be naming it a classic tho. at least for us. the album leaked a week early before release im sure thesource got an advance copy before that so its straight for em to say so (maybe not).
either way its a good album but for an album to be a classic it HAS TO stand the test of time.
^So Illmatic was not a classic when it came out?
@***SHAKE*** * this is so low on the totem, you may not see this* but you are 100% CORRECT. 5 mics means Kanye West’s album goes into the category of Aquemini, Illmatic, All eyez on me which too were crowned with 5 mics by the source when it actually meant something !! pre “magazine ratings 2010″ … lol … I love this SITE 2dopeboyz.com
All of you who called it a classic better have actually bought the fucking album…
The Source blew their wad on Trill O.G. That was pretty much a 4-1/2 mic album at best.
They want to keep the value of the Source/5 Mics brand relavant, and they know it dilutes the value of their stock if they hand out 5 mics every month.
Even though the Source started taking a backseat to XXL awhile back, I’m guessing most rappers would still rather get that 5 mics than a XXL rating.
And Shake, face it “magazine ratings” still mean more in 2010 tham “blogger opinions”.
Lol the fact niggas trynna roast Shake on his site makes me laugh…There are millions of ways to get your new music YET you come on here YET you read what Shake says and YET you take the time to type dum comments…SMH
Back to business tho, Source made a huge mistake for ratin the Trill Og album 5 mics, in that, and many others, way the lost their credibility. Ye album dope as shit , it really is , but cmon son yall niggas drop the word classic quicker than yall drop Illuminati. This IS NOT a classic, time will tell. DISTANT RELATIVES was way better, and I been a huge Ye fan, yall snitch niggas hoppin on the bandwagon ruinin hiphop, chill.
It’s 2010, the owners of the popular blogs replaced the magazine’s critics.
“Every single person who professionally reviewed MBDTF is wrong. My unqualified opinion is right.” – 50% of these comments.
I’m about to get completely ethered, I know. But, This album lacks theme and continuity completely.. Things that make great albums of all times, album of the year? OK. but people might be a tad overzealous with this one DieHard fans always bias.
I really like MBDTF, but it is not one of my top 5 rap albums, and not even on my top albums of all time list. College Dropout, however is still in my top 5.
College Dropout > MBDTF.
It’s just opinion.
FIRST OF ALL WHO THE FUCK STILL READS THE SOURCE WHAT IS THIS THE 90′S???
“FUCK THE SOURCE IM ON THE COVER OF ROLLING STONE” – 50 CENT
yeah this album has no songs that 5 years from know im gonna go back and listen to but i go back to college dropout and late registration quite often dark fantasy was a good album though
Definately 5 mics.
Bun B was more like 3.5 mics
this shit is not hip hop
^So Illmatic was not a classic when it came out?
SavannahChitlinPimp
No it wasn’t. People rarely talked about classic albums in those days.
Now an album is classic after you heard it 1 time.
No one knew Public Enemy was dropping classics. It was just great rap music.
This is barely rap music. It’s like Soft Rap. Or gay rap.
I guess it will be a classic for future gay rap fans.
Congratulations.
definitely not good enough for 5 mics. probably his fourth best album.
College Dropout, however is still in my top 5.
College Dropout > MBDTF.
It’s just opinion.
rockett
You can have an opinion but it better be based on some facts. Otherwise you know what they say about opinions.
See this is the problem. Rap fans don’t go back to listen to old rap. There is no way in hell with all the rap albums that have been dropped in the last 30 years College Dropout would make the top 50.
It’s like saying an R Kelly album is one of your top 5 RNB albums of all time.
You would be laughed at and humiliated for being so ignorant of the classic albums and history of RnB music.
Same with your comment about college dropout.
We can’t even talk rap because your totally ignorant of the genre you so love.
It’s your opinion and I have the right to laugh my a$$ off when you say something so stupid.
@SHARKSBREATH like, I said, I would be ETHERED. lmao. Regardless, you failed to mention your opinion on MBDTF.. I will respect any negative comments about my opinion in any nature…
But, because of your strong opinion I’m interested in what you think about MBDTF..
I’ll give the production 5 mics but the lyrics I’ll only give at most 4. I definitely wouldn’t say it’s a classic though
SHARKSBREATH, your an idiot dude. What’s makes your opinion based more on fact than someone else’s. At the end of the day, reviews, ratings, and top list are strictly opinion of the people of those involved. It’s how they feel when listening to the album. So it really has nothing to do with fact. An d if we are looking t the facts, MBDTF has been critically acclaimed by almost every major publication (5mics Source, XXL in XXL, 5 stars in Rolling Stone, perfect 10 in Pitchfork for Christ sake.) As well as a lot of blogs. So whose not basing their opinions on fact.
Trill O.G was better
Its a dope album but not a classic by far, iDont see people listenin to this for 10yrs
yet they put a cover of overated khalifa and ross
Trill O.G was better.
THIS ALBUM A CLASSIC AS THE DAY IS LONG..IM SICK OF LAME NIGGAZ GIVIN OUT THEY LIST OF WHAT CLASSICS ARE..LAME..THOSE ALBUMS ALSO DIDNT RECEIVE FIVE MICS WHEN THEY CAME OUT EITHER..THE CHRONIC.DOGGYSTYLE.READY TO DIE..REASONABLE DOUBT.OT WAS WRITEN..ALL OF THEM GOT FOURS OUT THE GATE..IT WAS YRS LATER WHEN THAT WAS CHANGED..SO YALL OPINIONS IS INVALID..THIS IS A PERFECT ALBUM FOR THE TIME IT WAS RELEASED..U TELLIN ME “BLAME GAME” NOT GON SOUND GOOD FIVE YRS FROM NOW…EVERY RECORD ON THE ALBUM IS DESIGNED TO AGE WELL..IF U BASED EVERY HOT ALBUM ON YO OWN TOP 5..U WILL NEVER GET A CLASSIC RATING..DUMMIES..YE WELL DONE
This album has made me play Kanye’s discography ever since I picked up MBDTF the day it was released.
I can’t say if the album is classic yet, but I’d say it’s better than any other album I got this year.
MBDTF bumped Kanye from my Top 5 to my Top 3.
It’s funny. People said no one would be listening to College Dropout years later. Or Late Registration. Or Graduation. Yet people are listening to and praising those albums. So… I guess we’ll see.
Not a classic? Right to an opinion or not, that is just straight fuckery. This is the only rap album that’s come out since the turn of the millennium that people will still listen to 20 years from now. This is gonna be one of those “coming of age” albums that everyone discovers in college like Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of The Moon or Bob Marley’s Legend.
This is definitely your site, Shake and you are entitled to say whatever you want, but don’t expect anyone with even half a brain not to call you out when you make a statement like this not being a classic. This shit changed the game!
youre outta your mind if you think this album deserves anything less then perfect
this album will not and i repeat will not be played next year, think about it for a sec, which song can u relate to? None, coz its a bunch of average raps from a dude thats ego has gotten the best of him…
me too,…
u should prolly click my name too for that NEW SHIT THATS DOPE AS FUCK
^unless they just break all his cd’s and you can no longer download the album anywhere, I think you’ll be proven wrong.
yo i need an honest opinion! is this album really better than college drop out?? i havent heard mbdtf yet so i idk
if any of you people had any idea what was ACTUALLY going on outside of the little bubble-worlds that you all live in, you could see the message in the lyrics on MBDTF. this dude relentlessly comes out and changes some shit one way or another. LISTEN TO WHAT HE’S SAYING… or for God’s sake just read something (but don’t watch the news haha) suckers.
yo think bout yall selves has a hip-hop fan an ask your self something are you spoiled with hip-hop? think bout out how bad do you judge a new MC? do you only download a new artist if he did a track your fav MC r do you take a listen an judge for yourself? Do you expect a fucking 5 star song or freestyle everytime you see your artist name in a blog? these are just some things i noticed bout myself an other friends who love hip-hop if you said yay to any of those things or more guess what your a spoiled hip-hop fan an were whats killing hip-hop who cares if this album of kanyes was not has good has college dropout who cares that was then now move like hov said “niggas want my old shit, buy my old album” get over it thumbs up if you agree i hope someone reads this an says oh shit ya hes right were killing hip-hop not the industry
P.S. i hope shake reads that comment above an see if he got my point or if someone did at least dam cause think bout it the fans are killing hip-hop stroll through the above comments an see for yourself an yall wonder why kanye is going crazy the fans are turning on him!!!!! im not, but his new album is dope but not classic but great none the less
oh shit yeah… @El-Nino right. we’re killing hip-hop…. isn’t it deeper than that? what are the morals that the “industry” push? violence, greed? thafuck? get a cluuuuuue
Album is dope. Who the fuck still reads The Source?????
1. ITS THE SOURCE PEOPLE~!!
2. I dont feel its “classic” but its GREAT SONICALLY as someone noted, lyrically not so much but its still dope…tbh it was just a really good album idk if its “classic”. I only started listening to it a week ago

GOOGLE THIS NOW!!!
its on piratebay now!!
yall remember the good friday tracks good friday and dont look down? i thought those were fursure gonna be on the album but monster made it instead….
near classic…. not a classic…. whatever, good for him…
but it does deserves it more than Trill OG nonetheless…
who actually listened to trill o.g?
Let’s put it like this. Lil Kim’s Naked Truth and Trill OG received 5 mics. MBDTF is way better than both. So how do you, if you’re the Source, not give Ye the 5. Especially after you’ve already screwed him over before? (College Dropout and/or Late Registration.)
nahh shake it’s definitely a classic, definitely better than trill og
MBDTF is infinitely better than Trill O.G. The production on this album is amazing. If production is the only criteria, it’s classic; but, it isn’t. (However, consensus is that Ye could sculpt a turd, and mogs would call it the greatest art of all time.) And no, it is not better than College Dropout.
It needs to be remastered….
Pretty funny when this site’s co-owner gets checks for a side-gig with a rival magazine. Ya’ll should display ANY kind of journalistic integrity and not take shots. Oh wait, I forgot that you’re both just culture-jacking whore’s who bring nothing of tangible substance to the culture.
My Dark Twisted Fantasy is worthy of 5 mics..I feel sorry for shake..he probably feels like a dumbass lol all of his followers disagree..somebody show this post/comment to kanye to boost his fuckin ego.ahah
heres shakes secret site he dont want u to know abt the url is blocked here
my rap news com …u cant even type the url here lol
Storytelling at its best. Don’t hate milkshake boy.
222< y wud it b secret n who said shake owns it n if he does …er so waht?lol
hahaha shake called a guy a doorknob
fuck MBDTF, not even almost classic
definitely worth 5 mics because its not your average hip hop album, this kanye album is more darker, more intricate with well executed beats
Wow. So many people on Kanye’s nuts.
I bought Kanye’s album but its not classic or five mics and neither was Trill OG and I bought that one as well. They both are great albums but no where near classic status. I think the term classic gets thrown around too much nowadays. Solid album for sure though.
And to further cement the point someone else made before.
This album isn’t even better than Kanye’s previous out-ting.
MBDTF isn’t Kanye’s best work. Great album but not his best.
This album was okay at best half goodfriday tracks, 4 fillers and 2 new songs worth while. Stop saying it classic because it’s kanye. It is not deserving of this award just like bun b isn’t deserving for his 5 mics.
This shit(MBDTF) is 3/5 and this is coming for a kanye fan fuck all of you kanye dickriders.
maaan FOH! The Source opinion dont mean shit anymore dey gave both Thank me later AND Recovery 4 mics but kanyes album is a classic..even tho he’s STILL SINGING AND USING AUTO TUNE SMFH and lyrically he fell waaay off cuz GRADUATION is way better everybpdy dickridin this album only cuz of the production which is tight I admit but lyrics HELL NO nicki minaj’s verse on monster was annoying and wack no substance at all HFM2>>>MBDTF
classic album
JUST CUZ HE SPENT $1,000,000 on a video
AND PUT OUT HIPHOP WEEKLYS, that 1. wern’t original 2. not as solid as crookeds …. doesn’t mean that should give him a 5mic… and the album alone deserved 4
Its a toss up between 4.5 and 5 for me, its certainly a classic album production wise. In my top 5 best produced Hip Hop albums of all time. Still not sure out of this and Late Registration for which is ‘Ye’s best album.
Kanye pulled a great magic trick – at a time when he’s public enemy #1 he drops an album that does not disappoint and is head and shoulders above the competition.
The album is really good but if Kanye wasn’t controversial, I don’t think there would have been as great an impact. But then again, the it wouldn’t have been the same album.
It’s like the whole world was shocked that he could deliver an album because they all wanted to see him fail.
Personally I think the album deserves all the praise because of ambition (which could have easily gone awry). The album’s not perfect but it transcends.
And in the end isn’t that what a classic record is? An album that transcends above all others during some epoch of time?
You cant call something a classic this early cuz who knows what were going to be listening to 20 years from now. The source fell off from when i used to read it so getting 5 mics doesnt mean as much as it used to anyway. As good as this album is i cant put it up there with albums that received 5 mics in the past such as: Illmatic, The Blueprint, Life After Death, and the Low End Theory.
I think this the type of music and album quality kanye been waiting to make in a long time. Kanye was more personal and darker on this album releasing some of his frustration on Amber Rose and the fast life style he living in, with limited tracks was a smart move, no skits just the way how like it. To be Honest As a professional artist myself you gotta ask yourself will this album still get played after a year of two ? Thats when u consider an album a true classic like All Eyez On Me, Life After Death, Tha Carter, The Blueprint, Stillmatic. I give Yeezy 5 cause he deserve it.
MasterShake in da house…i miss ATHF vol 1-4 style.
Personally enjoy most cuts off the album but can’t see it as a classic or gamechanger..gamechanger? College dropout..classic? Illmatic cause i can still bump them tracks daily yeeeaaarrssss after i discovered its incredibleness.
Shake when you get the folk goin i lawl
This album is incredible. It’s much more than just a hip hop album. Kanye blended hip hop, pop, and a bunch of other musical styles into something special. The production is amazing, his singing and rhymes are great, and he manages to get to best out of all the artist doing cameos. If you are too close- minded to see how amazing this album is than you are really missing out.
this isn’t a classic? is there a weak song on it?
5 mics, XXL, 10 from pitchfork, and 5 from Rolling Stone. Classic.
WORST POST OF THE YEAR. < BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR.
“I’m a let yall finish but I’m living in that 21st century, doing something mean to it.”
STOP DICKRIDING
That album is full of fillers, I’m glad someone pointed that out. Good fillers, but fillers none the less. Y’all remember when ‘Ye used to put out conscious songs telling stories about the struggles or realistic relationship issues, Remember when Kanye was still in the putting his WHOLE city on business (Which i give him mad kudos for), remember when it was all about people that said he COULDNT DO IT, and he showing them that he could? That was Kanye West at his finest, lyrically. I will say that as a producer he is still very much so nothing short of amazing, but at some point this became a real Cirque De Soleil of some sort.
It’s like watching Tom Cruise try to play a regular middle class guy, at some point your star power/ego gets so beyond you, you stop relating to the common people.
Kanye stopped relating to me.
Just opinion, but honestly who in our tax bracket can say ‘Ye is still putting out that Therapy Music, those puns and metaphors we NEEDED.
MBDTF is not a classic album, It’s a classic compilation. This is Speakerboxxx.
We needed a Luv Below.
IMO.
Definite 5 mic album. No bullshit.
rockett, while I can sort of understand where you’re coming from, you really didn’t make a strong case for this not being a classic album. It’s a bit naive and unfair to expect an artist to talk in the same way he did and in the same context before he had 16 Grammys, millions of dollars, model girlfriends, extremely crazy events and paparazzi out the ass following him.
As for it being a “classic compilation” i would say look at it more like this: The Chronic had TONS of features and people helping in the production and writing of it. BUT at the end of the day, it was all DRE’S vision. Therefore it is considered a DRE album. Same instance here (moreso even because Ye does rap/sing on every single track.)
This album is definitely not a classic!!! Its not a play all the way thru album AND the shit is brand new,I will give it decent. Lets stop and THINK about the last album Ye dropped…..OF COURSE its gonna sound amazing compared to 808& Heartbreaks(which in my opinion was HORRIBLE). Are you people really serious when u say this is CLASSIC compared with other albums give 5 mics (minus 2 definites) ex. Illmatic, Low End Theory, Life After Death, Aquemini!! Come on!!!!
the album def. has the feel of all his albums/artistic work put together…how you deem that it’s not a classic iHNFi!!!
@SavannahChitlinPimp I appreciate that you get what i’m saying, and although your right that I as far as the entire Kanye West career goes, I should have expected things to change, But I can honestly say he is the poster child for the idea that FAME changes people, but this is probably the reason why my favorite artists over the past 5 years have been underground, because mainstream has put a cap on the creativity and ever more so, a cap on creative control. There are very few artists that can have mainstream success and stick to their roots, the ones that TRY usually get lost in the woods trying to stay relevant. I fear for what DRAKE is going to be by the time we get to his 5th LP, that is to say if he hasn’t already gotten lost in the woods.
The Chronic comparison was necessary for me to read to understand that I should still see this as Kanye’s album, but the fact remains that Hip Hop needs a “Luv Below”, and at this point we might not get that again until/if Andre and Big drop something together.
Mainstream Hip Hop needs an Outkast album more than anything right now. IMO
If we don’t get it, then free underground music will DEFINITELY win, if it hasn’t already.
^you’re not going to get an arguement out of me on that one. Outkast needs to get back and do some shit. Or at least Andre needs to go ahead and put out that solo album.
Kanye west is a fag..Elzhi makes classics..
there are classics…and then there are undisputed classics…the ones that if one person actually says it’s wack, that person gets the mean mug and left out of the conversation lol…there are only a few of those…kanye’s isn’t one of them…it’s like OB4CL2 but more emotional and for the masses…that’s all it is
“production is incredible…lyrically the album kinda sucks” i co-sign bro! It had some beautiful production but lyrically Kanye didnt come with it to me…Power and all of the lights were to me the only real complete songs But i cant take it away from him I think its a dope album but not a classic…Ok if it is then compare it to an album like aquemini which I know are too completely different albums and styles but everything and I mean everything from rhymes to beats to chrous was on point…now tell me if kanye’s album was a classic?
yo i think every one is putting to much thought into it if its not your type of shyt then why do u have to speak on it. honestly i love the album its a whole new sound and deserves to be called classic. this is so left field and ahead of its time after a while music will ajust so for now haters get down and suck a Ron Jeremy dick
HAVEN’T LISTENED TO THIS ALBUM YET & THAT DARK FANTASY INSTRU IS GREAT – JUST A SAMPLE THO, HIS MINI VIDEO IS ANOTHER GREAT THING BUT HONESTLY KANYE IS FOR ALL YALL TEENAGERS , KIDS WHO JUST STARTED LISTENNING TO HIP HOP… WHATEVER HE BEEN MAKIN BEATS OR SHIT FOR YEARS. 2DOPEBOYZ & A FEW OTHERS WOULD TEACH YOU WHERE HIP HOP BELONGS & WHERE IT FROM. WE THINK WHATEVER WE WANT – AINT NUTTIN YOU GON CHANGE BOUT IT. HATERS, YOU’D BE JUST TOO PREDICTABLE, GROW UP & LEARN WHAT REAL CLASSICS ARE…
THE MISTAKE HE MADE WAS SPOILING IGNORANT ASS NIGGAS WITH GOOD FRIDAYS IN THE FIRST PLACE. IT WOULDNT BE A QUESTION IF EVERYONE HEARD THE SHIT ONCE THE ALBUM CAME OUT THERE WOULD BE NO QUESTION THAT THE SHIT IS CLASSIC FROM START TO FINISH. MOST OF YOU SKIP OVER TRACKS CUZ YOU PLAYED THE SHIT A FEW HUNDRED TIMES IN THE WEEKS BEFORE THE ALBUM DROPPED.
This album a classic classic album, and I’m not just talkin hip-hip
but music in general. The funny thing is that this album probably won’t have as many smash singles as his other efforts, but the entire album is better. It’s made to be a whole and not just pieces. Itunes has forever f’d up the art of album making. It’s like an opera. Like Q-tip said the whole is greater than the sum of all it’s parts. If you’re a fan of music in general then you’ll love it, if you
but if you’re only a fan of hip-hop music you may be disappointed.
