Before Yeezy ever reached the coveted super star level he stands firmly on today, he was just a young’n in Chi City trying to make a name for himself in the production game, still under the tutelage of such underrated greats as No I.D. & Dug Infinite. Don’t quote me on this, but I believe that he was ghost producing for Deric “D-Dot” Angelettie and Bad Boy around the time this record came out, hence the funky production reminiscent of that era. On Chicago representative Grav’s (Gravity) LP, Down To Earth, Kanye handled and is credited with producing Born (that’s Nine for you 85ers) tracks out of the 15 featured on the album, with the rest handled by Dug & No I.D. City To City also featured a guest appearance by former Beatnuts member Kool Fashion, better known as Al’ Tariq, and Lil’ Ray.
