J. Cole was in Arizona today and unfortunately I didn’t get to peep the performance. He called in to let me know how it went down, his reaction to the Friday Night Lights fiasco, and whats next for Hollywood Cole. – YaYa
PREVIOUS: J. Cole – Friday Night Lights (Mixtape)
Hip Hop, Video

Fuck waiting that long for the album hehe..
Cole: “I’m so far in right now with the album”
Martinez: “So we’re looking at March for the album?”
Cole: “Maybe even April but it doesn’t even matter cuz it’s so good it could be may, june; it’s so great”
I think he said the name of his album is Detox. He said it’s been pretty much complete since July. C’mon, is he really THAT good? He is acting like he is about to drop the greatest album of all time. FNL wasn’t better than the Warm Up in my opinion and everybody acts like he dropped an absolute classic. I love J. Cole but all his hype is from the internet. You don’t really hear much of him in the “real world”.
gyeah!!
Cole needs to drop that album already.
^^ Nothing but morons above me. Cole is a SIGNED artist, he is not INDEPENDANT. He can’t drop an album whenever he wants, it’s up to the label. When he dropped “Who Dat” he said if the single blew up his album would drop Oct/Nov but the single was a disappointment. Recently Cole said he needs a “smash single and then the label will feel comfortable to put out the album”. It’s not up to him, ask Lupe. Now that he got all this buzz from FNL and going on tour with Drake he just needs that one song that really blows up. I personally think it could be “In The Morning” considering I know a lot of people that love it that never even really listened to Cole. That is the type of song he needs to get his album released. I also think for his first “smash” single Cole should consider working with a “big” name producer rather than producing it himself. He is a very talented producer but his style of beats at this point won’t get him a top 20 type of song.
the fact that u dont hear much about him in the real world is why he keeps pushing it back genius…u hafta build ur buzz before u drop

If Cole dropped his album Tuesday he would sell about 50-75k first week no matter how good it is. That is something the label knows and obviously does not want. A “smash” single alone can get you 100k sales your first week. The label is trying to build up his buzz all while waiting for him to get his “Over” or “Forever” type of hit single. It would be a terrible business move for Cole and Rocnation to release his album now.
Am I the only one who thought J. Cole sounded intoxicated in that phone interview? He seemed like he wasn’t all there and he was kind mumbling sometimes haha
Oh and can that chick be on his nuts anymore? Wow! haha
That’s my bad. I forgot the label runs artists’ lives.
I told yall niggaz close to a year ago that he wasn’t going to drop no fuckin’ album in 2010 (niggaz thought I was crazy and BSing). A. Hole loves the smell of his own shit. when that FNL dropped I knew the life span of that wack mixtape will last just a few days. nobody even talkin’ or bumpin that shit no more. this whole 2010 was the year of the buzz kill for A. Hole. now he’s reacting to the delay of the album release as a self promotional vehicle, as if niggaz are still in pursuit for his non highly anticipated album. nobody gives a red cent fuck about purchasing your album now A. Hole. YOU HEAR ME?!!! NOfuckin’BODY!!! these little rinky dink college tours you hoppin’ on is nothing but “rent money” money. the Flake dick rider europe tour you about to jump on, is a back to square one reality check you’re facing right now. you buzzkilled yourself with all the countless of BS interviews you wasted time on. guess what? for all you idiot fans and midget media mongers who follow this wannabe rapper, he’s goin’ back on his interview tour all over again in 2011. this nigga A. Hole danced the whole fuckin’ 2010 and flopped harder than Bristol Palin. A. HOLE YOU FAILED! love the way that sounds as I type it, makes me want to do it again…A. HOLE YOU FAILED!
@NYC/BROOKLYN will you be buying Cole’s album when it drops? I bet you will lol
@ Rezo…nah nigga, I tell you what I will buy in a few mins. a 40oz and a bag of weed. it’s marshmallow saturday and there’s a campfire in Brooklyn tonight!
Im abt to see j.cole ryt now…..LA baby its goin down!!
@NYC/Brooklyn I know you are just fucking around but… It’s his labels decision when to drop an album, not J. Cole’s. Artists can’t really control when to drop an album. That’s what I learned from my first comment. Doing college tours is a bad look? Who is going to provide most of his album sales? High school and college kids. Looks like good business to me.
BAM12393 um fnl was a dope mixtape I don’t know what you talkin the damn site kept crashing and the majority thought it was dope you fuckin clown I guess he didn’t talk about the struggle that much for you.oh yeah nyc/brooklyn is the biggest j.Cole fan on this site
The thing is, he got so much internet hype and he is basically becoming a superstar in hip-hop. And that’s where the label steps in. I think heads at Roc Nation smart enough to know how to support him and give him that push. And I’m sure he will have smashing first single and they will know exactly what to do with it.
P.S.: I wouldn’t call ”Who Dat” a single, more like a song to test the waters. Similar to Game’s Westside Story or Higher.
@NYC/BROOKLYN I remember you once saying you would commend Cole if he dropped something dope. Since then at least 30 Cole tracks have dropped. Can you honestly say none of them is/was dope?
Also, after you listened to all those tracks and decided he wasn’t dope enough for you, why still comment on ALL posts about him?
CH > J Cole
@juice101 I never said it wasn’t dope because I do think it was dope. I said I thought the Warm Up was better. Do you really think FNL had enough subject matter to it? Was it dope?: yes. Dope enough to say J. Cole is the savior of hip hop?: definitely not.
mac miller is whats up MOSTDOPE
@bam fnl doesn’t have subject matter, if you can’t listen to the intro and see how the tracklist goes, listen to the music AND still think it doesn’t have subject matter than idk how you think
@718allday You don’t think his subject matter gets pretty redundant?
I Have A Feeling, IDK Why, But Just Imagine If NYC/BROOKLYN Is J. Cole Himself? Hahahaha.
this nigga needs to drop his album… Big sean needs to drop his album.. all these niggas need to drop their albums! and stop bullshittin.
i must say.. not a huge j cole dick rider but def acknowledge the dude has talent. much more talented than drake but not on jay elec, lupe, etc level and i think people wanna put him in there. he’s really not. i absolutely DUG fnl first time around but it really doesn’t have much for replay value. definitely a dope tape w/ some SUPER tracks but i think vizzy zone trumps it and that tape received a lot of hate.. that being said i will purchase cole’s and xv’s album when they drop but i think he’s cole is still finding himself. xv’s gunna blow next year for the wrong reasons but he will nonetheless.. got nothin’ but love for cole but definitely overhyped. + xv.. super slept on imo.
@ BAM12393…I know it’s his label who controls what’s on his plate. it is also his label and his team who mapped out a strategical plan to cross him over as a commercial artist. his record label already crunched in those numbers way before A. Hole even went in the studio to do his album. those record A & R’s are nothing but Dr. Frankensteins trying to create an artist by their projected standards. I believe they tried everything they could in 2010 and it was not successful as you can see. there’s a trail of evidence just by his interviews alone this year. this whole year of 2010 was spent on interviews. he made it a witch hunt just for his idiot fans to figure what was gonna be the name of his album. I had crackhead cousins calling me collect from Rikers just to tell me they think the name of his album was gonna be called “Cole World”. these little niggaz don’t know any better, which is the reason they’re in prison in the first place. the nigga I buy weed off asked me the other day he needed some new shit to bump. I tested A. Hole’s name in the conversation. don’t know WTF I was thinkin’ I must of been o-zee’en of the 40′s because this nigga came at me like James Evans after he came back home with no job to his family on Good Times when I mentioned A. Hole new FNL mixtape. this nigga told me “nigga I’m out here selling weed, I’m not here selling red roses and tulips!!”. I grab my dime bag and got the fuck out of there. the streets ain’t fuckin’ with A. Hole out here in BK-NY…and that’s my word! from day one, I just never got the whole A.Hole-MANIA. lyrically he’s subpar and not original, his beats is straight out horrible. I see this nigga with another 3 mixtapes before his album officially has a date to hold on to. A. Hole is gonna papoose himself to death in the industry. WE ARE ALL WITNESSES! A. HOLE YOU FAILED!
Where is the GOOD Friday track??
@blair I agree 100%. Except with the XV stuff because I haven’t listened to Vizzy Zone.
not lookin good @AGTheSpaceman. @bam12393 xv ain’t on lu or jay elec’s level either but def more replay value than cole. i believe. dope punchline rapper that loves to hate on the current rap game.. which I dig. haha. “what’s eating gilbert grape”. one of my favs.
Lmfao @NYC/BROOKLYN be saying some hilarious stuff even tho he hates a lot he is a funny ass nigga lol but anyway noticed how much time and effort u put into typing up negative comments bout J. Cole but it never accomplishes anything and Friday Night Lights is still buzzing everybody I know that’s into hip hop like that still be talking bout FNL especially Too Deep For The Intro like everyday
lol @ this nyc/brooklyn faggot. fnl has no replay value? i’ve been listening to it since it came out and i guarantee many others are too. his beats are horrible? lol you’re acting like you could go on FL studio and come up with something better. his beats are way better than most of the simple ones i’ve been hearing lately. cole isn’t copying any other artist and has a unique flow, he talks about some pretty interesting stuff, and he makes some pretty damn good beats for a rapper/producer. if you can honestly say that all of fnl is trash then i would like to see what new music you consider to be good. lol at this guy getting a boner when he thinks j cole’s life is about to go spiraling down, when in reality it’s all going up from here.
Funkmaster flex been looking for a friend
J Cole, drop that album!!
drop the album
Cole is dope. Just pay ur damn respect and acknowledge it
Haha. I thought that drake was the hollywood cole. J cole is J cole. haha.
@Ummm
trust me I believe nyc/brooklyn is cole also for some reason?
and mixtape been going strong for me btw
LOL @ you idiots saying that NYC/BROOKLYN is Cole. Like Cole has time to post 3 looooong as paragraphs on every post about himself on this site all while touring the country and doing 150 interviews. The dude probably has little to no time to do anything. If he did get some free time you really think he would spend it acting like someone else and posting hate about himself? I really hope you dudes are joking.
@Rezo Yes, I’m Super Serious. I Really Think It’s Cole. Hahahaha. SARCASM PAL! But Just Imagine If Cole Just Does Post Hate About Himself Just So He Can Motivate Himself? That’d Be Some Funny Shit. Hshahaha.
dude was impressed by mac miller! dope wheres all the haters at now!! ha ha good interview
LMAO @ NYC/Brooklyn’s first 2 comments…and I agree with alot of it too
Possible cole x mac miller collab? I can only pray
I was at the AZ show and dude killed it almost did 100% of the warm up and friday night lights… he knows how to do a show…
You must b retarded to think he dumb the nigga gradudated magne cum laude on a scholarship @ SJU… You on here runnin ya mouth yappin bout ya 40 & ya tree prolly home while this dude out nxt 2 J tryna blow up! Lame net thugs & street bloggers you aint in the street you bloggin clown! 412 awday Whiz iz doin his thing Currensy killin shouts 2 Mac Mill & J. Cole shut deez homos up fam
@ NYC/Brooklyn. When does your album drop? No?…how about a mixtape? no again?…shocking.
I know most people on this site are music snobs (and with good reason, let’s be honest we all stay up to date on the hip hop game thanks to Meka & Shake). There’s a reason why “A. Hole” came up, warmed up and is now blowing up. Cole drinks gasoline and swallows lit matches before he grabs a microphone and makes pretty good beats to match. I’m not saying he’s the greatest rapper alive or anything ridiculous like that, he deff has a lot to improve on but did it ever occur to you that not everyone is going to like everything ANYONE does? If you don’t like him then don’t waste your precious time trying to act like he’s a failure or something and bury your sorrows at the bottom of a 40.
Have you ever been to one of his “mediocre” performances of his?? He put on a show at Penn State and it was one of the best performances I’ve ever seen. It sounded like I have on Dre’s Beats and was bumping the shit from my ipod. You don’t get that kind of clarity in live performances nowadays.
J. Cole listen to 50′s advice to Ye, “go ‘head switch the style up. and if they hate then let ‘em hate and watch the money pile up”
Deuces.
