Just as it’s the fault of listeners for not seeking female emcees and record companies for not backing female emcees, a lot of these women need to stop rapping about their own pussy and wanting to use a man for all he’s worth. As a woman, I really can’t relate to that, nor do I WANT to. All the mainstream female emcees that women look to to, “represent us” are, while talented in their own right, laughable (Trina, Diamond, Khia lol, etc) and as much as I hate to admit it, I can see where SOME men are coming from when they say they can’t relate. Fuck, I can’t relate either. It’s when comments go from an objective standpoint to just a sexist one that I think people’s arguments are nullified. I don’t think Nicki Minaj is a HORRIBLE representation of women, although her whole shtick is Barbie, but I know for a fact there are better ones that are just waiting to shine.

I listen to lots of female emcees (mostly from back in the day) but overall I just don’t like most of the newer ones. My main problem with female rappers is well they tend to follow 1 of 2 molds I can’t stand. Type A) The sex bomb, fashion label droppin’, my pussy’s the bomb, I make niggas trick chick. Or the overly masculine, chip on her shoulder, men are holding me down, lesbo-femme nazi type…that raps with a voice deep as Darth Vader and spends an uncomfortable amount of time grabbing her invisible dick…
I said all that to say this, I miss MC Lyte, Queen Latifa,Lauryn Hill, Ladybug Mecca,& Bahamadia. Shoot even Kim/Foxy in proper form are light years ahead of the current crops. I can’t stand the Nicki Minaj’s of the world, nor can I stand the Eternia’s of the world.

At times even Jean Grae fails to command my attention on a track, often times her vocals get swamped by the beat. That’s why people sing Foxy, Lauryn, MC Lyte and Lil Kim’s praises because you could actually hear what they’re saying, hell even Nikki has it.
