eLZhi – Undefeated Freestyle (prod. Madlib)

Here’s a short, but sweet, unreleased track eLZhi worked on with Madlib that’s never seen the light of day until now. I think I can speak for everyone when I say we need more of this stuff, please.

  1. frrrrrrresh

  2. HE CAN RAP CIRCLES AROUND BASICALLY ANYBODY, BUT OTHERS MAKE BETTER SONGS, SO……… ELZHI ISN’T ALL THAT GREAT

  3. lol^^ if he can rap circles around anybody why “isn’t all that great”? bottom line El is technically better lyrically than just about anybody u can think of. mayb u should listen to the “preface” (if u havent already) since u think great songs are jus about hooks!!

  4. i don’t really care if he can make hooks.. he can do that anyway but their more straight forward, hip hop type hooks.. but i just fist pumped for this just now..

  5. TYPING IN ALL CAPS DOESNT MAKE YOU’RE POINT MORE OR LESS VALID

  6. I TYPE IN ALL CAPS REGARDLESS OF THE POINT I’M TRYING TO MAKE. THE PREFACE? I’VE HEARD BETTER. GOOD HOOKS MAKE SONGS AND VERSES WAYYYYYYYY BETTER

  7. Y’all niggas gay

  8. elzhi + madlib = sweetness to the ears

  9. by definition: a good verse makes a good verse. a good hook makes a good hook, but does not make a good verse. if you need some catchy hook to tap your toes and sing along to, turn on the radio.

  10. SO GOOD HOOKS MEAN THAT IT HAS TO BE WATERED DOWN RADIO MUSIC? WTF A GOOD HOOKS KEEPS THE LISTENER ENTERTAINED ALSO WHILE BUILDING ANTICIPATION FOR THE NEXT VERSE. YOU’D BE STUPID TO THINK THAT A GOOD HOOK HAS NO EFFECT WHATSOEVER ON THE VERSES

  11. I think people need to understand that making a good hook does not equal having weak lyrics. Some artists are good at one or the other, and some are good at both.
    -
imo, if you want to be a complete hip-hop artist you SHOULD have both. You’re suppose to make songs. Not just murdering your verse and have some garbage hook that doesn’t move things along. OR having weak ass verses because you made a singalong or dance for your hook.
    -
If you think one part is more important than the other, that’s your preference. That tends to be the difference between your “underground” music listeners and your “mainstream” music listeners. That’s a generalization, but you see it all the time with fans.

  12. the hooks do effect the overall songs but not so much the verses unless the hook is just awful and makes you not want to listen to it lol, a hot verse is a hot verse though no matter what.. and i’ve been sleeping on this guy, i just checked out the preface a few weeks ago and that shits sick

  13. this combo would make a dope medicine show album

  14. Co-sign @Onederin

  15. well ill take a 100 bars…no hook.. hold the dancing..with a side of lyricism!! (make it a large) #realrapisnotontheradio

  16. i always wanted someone to rap over that movie scene…but eLZhi?! hell yeah

  17. ^^The only fake rap is the raps made only for getting money, rap music made for the love of hip hop is real imo whether its on the radio or not

  18. @Lime

HELL YES it would, he was supposed to drop one with Frank Nitti rapping the whole show, but its been pushed back (supposed to be Septembers)

  19. Co-sign Lime and 4,5,6
Thanks for having my thoughts so I don’t have to type them out :)

  20. Paco go sing your weak hooks to yourself in the shower ….LOL ELZHI IS A RAP GOD ! This is obviously not intended to be a complete radio song….. MADLIB is so Dope!

  23. straight off of my undefeated mixtape from 3 years ago..thanks for the resurrection!

  24. Fuck a Mac Miller. ELZHI!

  25. I feel Paco, like sometimes there could have been a hook or two, but cmon man. Name one damn artist that always makes good songs. I can name one artist that spazzes on tracks EL! But EL makes ill songs, you must be listening to his old ish. But Preface, Love it here, dude makes very creative ill songs man.

But my nigga all I have to say is Deadly Medley had no hooks and I still bump that joint on repeat, you might not, but thousands of real hip-hop heads do homie. There is a lot of jams I have that aint got no hooks. But my dude El cannot be messed with, that nigga is beyond impressive with the raps.

  26. just listen to Glow, that songs got a real nice hook.

  27. lol that was random^^^

and Elzhi can make dope hooks if he wants to… What is he supposed to sing his hooks or some shit?

  28. im talkin to Unxpekted

  29. PACO go listen to El Frito El Debarge first album and leave hip hop ALONE.

Now what was I going to say..Oh YEah…Elzhi is officially the best rapper in the game right now..October 2010 6:50pm. The only cat that could touch Elzhi is NAS AT 19 years old. Thats is ALLL.

  30. The only cat that could touch Elzhi is NAS AT 19 years old. Thats is ALLL @ fredrostarr. DAAAAM!!! LOL Very True. But i think if Nas was pushed he could go toe to toe with Elz. Black Thought and Planet Asia are the only dudes that i could see rite know fuckin with Elzhi lyrically. Def Black Thought.

  31. I’LL TAKE AN ARTIST THAT CAN’T RAP AS GOOD AS ELZHI BUT MAKES ABETTER SONG THAN ELZHI ANYDAY. AND NAS HAS GREAT ALBUMS WITH GREAT SONGS (BOTH PLURAL) SO NAS>>>ELZHI
YOU’RE NOT UNDERSTANDING MY POINT, YOU’RE JUST LOOKING FOR A REASON TO CALL ME A HATER SO OR TELL ME TO LISTEN TO THE RADIO OR SOME STUPID SHIT LIKE THAT

  32. eL is dope! nuff said. Looking forward to eLmatic

  33. PACO, people understand your point just fine, it’s just a dumb ass point to make. Not every song needs to have a verse/chorus/verse/chorus arrangement. If someone were to make an album with 12 songs all in this form it would be the most boring shit we’ve ever heard, which is why you can’t name a single album in which this happens. What we have here is Elzhi killing it over a Madlib track for a freestyle. That’s it. It doesn’t need a hook. You brought up a completely irrelevant observation in regards to this track, which is why people are calling you a hater. Which you are.

  34. amen don_stacks

  35. lol I 2nd that ^^^

  36. What do people consider a “good hook” to be? I personally don’t think it means having someone singing the hook for you or some shit like that. I have heard eL incorporate his lyricism into his hooks like in the song “Raw War” and I prefer to hear a hook like that instead of a watered-down, radio-friendly hook. Bottom line: it’s not hard to make a corny, catchy hook, but an average joe would have a hell of a hard time coming up with a lyrical hook. The main concern I’ve had with eL is his beat selection (I don’t find anything special about Black Milk). This freestyle was a fresh of breath air.

  37. ^^ I mean breath of fresh air. LMAO

  38. what do we need to do to get a group with black milk, elzhi and royce

  39. diggity dope

  40. SO DOPE LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!!!!! ELZHI!!!!! OMG!!!

  41. 4 months later… “PACO” you are still an idiot, and im not going to tell you to listen to the radio ’cause that would be bad, instead, go look up some slum village tracks on youtube (from the j dilla era preferably) and just enjoy them.

  42. Hey vktyv5sv9oeiiglor4ig, very interesting post, it really got me thinking. an532r441k bpgiaizrdu Thank you. 4n8p1nhbg7
