@Dino
It seems that the conversations often in this forum might come true, with an epic rap trio forming together.
“Chicago Runs Shit” is not just an opinion anymore. Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco and Pharrell have joined up to form a new super-group named exactly that. Lupe and Kanye both call Chicago home while Pharrell is a Virginia Beach native himself. A more fitting group of Chicago artists might have been Common, Lupe and Kanye. Regardless, the group (which isn’t about fashion) is quite possibly the top secret project Lupe Fiasco referred to in an interview with Billboard magazine earlier this month.
In that interview, Lupe was said to be working on a “top secret project” with “another superstar rapper and someone who is a rapper/producer.” It was not revealed whether or not this would be for an entire album or just a few songs.
The ‘CRS’ group was revealed over the weekend when details surrounding the “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” mixtape were released. The first song the group released is the track “Us Placers” which uses a sample off of Thom Yorke’s (of the group Radiohead) “The Erasers.”

From what I’ve gathered Shake was backstage at Lupe’s concert slurping him off via twitter posts. (twitter.com/dopeboyshake). Shake then attempted to get an impromptu interview with Fiasco. Lupe realized who Shake was (he doesn’t like those who post his music prematurely) and emphatically denied the interview request. Shake then realized that Lupe had shot his load all over his face, and subsequently refused to ever suck him off again, err… never post his music again.

I’m not here to argue but Cole IS the best thing to come out in a longgg longgg time so you can’t get mad at every cole fan that posts shit. These people finally have something to be excited about. Not to mention that people who HAVE heard his album are calling it a mix between Illmatic (best rap album umm.. ever) and College Dropout (best debut since SSLP). Aint that something for these ppl to be excited about?? If your definition of mainstream means Drake radio spins and Cudi’s inflated album sales than so be it. Fortunatley for these real artists they have loyal fans that will make sure there relevant to Hip Hop fans. Ain’t that what were here for?

Cool. I just find it comical that some people who profess to be hip-hop fans, would even think that just because their favourite rappers are nice means anything they come out with are on the level of Illmatic, Me Against the World, Ready to Die, Fear of A Black Planet, Paid In Full, Criminal Minded, The Low End Theory, 3 Feet High and Rising, must I go on? Hip-hop has a long history and I think time has spoiled the aurora on some of the greatest works of all-time.

Meaning that Semtex is saying, in my opinion, that J. Cole’s album will be like playing Illmatic and College Dropout back to back and then playing the J. Cole album and saying to yourself “there in the same class.” If has to be proven you can’t just go by the hearsay.

Cole fans are right in some ways and wrong in some ways but as far as album speculation from what I’ve heard its Cole, No I.D., and Danjahandz on the boards and one Jay-z feature. It’s hard to imagine that not being something special and it’s really easy to imagine the illmatic comparisons and college dropout comparisons. Name the last rapper that had his own production for the majority of the album and only one feature?
I’d rather hear az than jay z hahaaa

I didn’t say All Eyez On Me or Life After Death.
Get ur shit straight. The albums I mentioned came out in 1995 and 1994. They were alive and those album were considered instant classics

I’m sorry, was this not you?:
By the way, If you don’t know any or most of the albums I mentioned, go download them or buy them and realize that the niggas out now would not be in your iPod otherwise.

What’s all this J. Cole talk about? It’s like everytime a collaboration is brought up, someone comes out of the woodwork and starts saying Cole should be on it. Which then leads to a discussion over how good he is. The kid has talent, no doubt, but he doesn’t have an album out. At least the crazy Lupe fans have a couple albums to base their argument off of. Also, I don’t think Cole would want to be compared to all these other rappers, let J. Cole be J. Cole.

i know what u mean b., but i don’t think like that anymore. im 24 years old, i don’t need to put rap/hip-hop in lil categories and sub-categories. the problem (to me, personally) with a lot of underground cats is that they lack a lot of things: charisma, subject depth, experimentation, marketability. it’s like a lot of underground mc’s just want to be taken seriously as “legit backpackers”. still trying to revive a way of creating rap music that’s been around since the early 80s. i also got tired of listening to a lot of underground shit and hearing almost every song bashing mainstream cats. that shit gets old (visionairies, el-p, krs, living legends, hieroglyphics, sole, etc.) two of my favorite artists of all time are MF DOOM and J DILLA. i think they defy most boundaries because they experiment (& experimented) outside of the norm; of what was expected from underground rap. i don’t know, just my 2 cents. i love to listen to anything fresh, inventive and new. whether it’s from Tyler the Bastard or Gucci Mane.

@crackadon… man u make me feel old. i’ll be 29 in november. haha. i feel that, subjectively, for the most part underground hip-hop has charisma, subject depth, and experimentation… in essence that is where the underground dwells in as opposed to the mainstream which is controlled by the labels & a&r’s. unfortunately, i agree that they do lack marketability for the most part and that’s due to, again, the labels and the a&r’s and also… the consumers. this is mundane but i think we can all agree that if we had all the fans of mainstream rap/hip-hop on one side… and underground on the other side… the underground fans would look like ants and pale in comparison, that already speaks fathoms about who’s going to profit more. truth be told, i listen to drake, i listen to j. cole, i listen to kanye nowadays (more on the mainstream tip) and i mess with everything under the sun (jazz, prog rock, soul, broken beat, dubstep, trip-hop, classical) but i guess my statement came in response to someone saying “________ would run laps around j. cole’s verses” and i had a flashback of tons of people that would just destroy a lot of the popular rappers nowadays. it’s just a trip that’s all… good dialogue though man. glad there are some folks on here that know what’s up…

Agreed. This track was a HUGE disappointment with Lupe and ‘Ye on the beat. This blog is probably full of 18yr old kids with heavily biased minds, which is why Lupe is the GOAT on this blog.

I look at it like this…
It’s a fun track,
Lu, P, and Ye were just having fun with it,
And it happens to be dope,
Not every song has to be super epic/super lyrical and monstrous
They killed their verses though, I wouldn’t say this was a disappointment.
That was one of the best Pharrell verses in a while, Lupe brought back the Fahrenheit 1/15 flow, Kanye comes with the braggadocios lyrics.
It’s just a fun hip hop track, and a throw-away at that, so for it to actually be good is awesome,
But whateverr…
Yeah... said this on October 8th, 2010 at 11:56 pm

LJK said this on October 8th, 2010 at 11:58 pm
I guess if we don’t share your opinion that means we’re dickriders..and of course that has to mean that you’re a hater, right?…smh Lupe’s wordplay alone was the highlight of this song imo…
Lupe > Kanye > instrumental > Pharrell
*replays the track for the 7th time in a row*

Will somebody please kill the phrase “dick riders” it;s annoying and gay honestly
Being frank...sinatra!!! said this on October 9th, 2010 at 12:01 am
dam…k this goes out to “haters”
if you don’t like a track…say something like “i don’t like this track”…you can maybe add “i think this track was better” or “that track was better” or “this guy didn’t rap that great”
but when you start accussing people of liking something that you don’t and make it seem like its blasphemy…then THAT’S hate…and don’t try and cover it up like “it’s my opinion”
anyways…back to the track…after a few listens…it definitely will go in my “hype up” playlist…great track imo
yukid said this on October 9th, 2010 at 12:01 am

The truth is just enjoy it for what it is…..a very good song. Play it loud this weekend at a party, in your car, whereever. Things could be worse, there might not of been any G.O.O.D. I don’t know why people be complaining about this song. I’ll admit, at first I didn’t like it that much but I’ll say it’s easily one of my favourite Good Friday songs. I mean, I’d be happy if I found a song like this on the album…definitely worthy of a purchase.

Bout slap the fuck out of the shit. I love that island swing melody that comes in. This track is flawless.

This song is awesome but it could have been better with 1 change.
The beat works perfectly for Lupe and Kanye, but Pharrell should have had a different beat to build up for Lupe and Kanye’s part. I couldn’t hear what he was talking about and the beat was too hard for his weak flow.

and i wouldn’t be surprised if kanye’s verse was recent because of the orpah line.
some of yall hip hop fans confuse me, but it is what it is…
