Just the thought of these folks making music together is always a great thing for hip hop. And while we don’t have any new joints to listen to just yet, we can all get hyped as it’s definitely coming. Today, Pete Rock spoke with Billboard about his placement on Jay-Z and Kanye West’s upcoming Watch the Throne project.
That came as a surprise to me because Jay-Z and I had never worked together. I used to go to Jay-Z sessions to hang out, and once he asked me to help clear a Nas sample, but other than that… When the engineer called and said, ‘Pete, I got a surprise for you,’ and I heard Jay rapping over my beat, I was like, ‘Wow!’
It was great to hear Jay over a Pete Rock beat. Wow. He says my name on the shit and everything!
This comes just a few days after he announced that him and Nas have also reunited for The Lost Tapes 2. And this all wasn’t enough for the true hip hop heads out there, Pete Rock vs DJ Premier is set for 2011 as well!
