A Cookin’ Soul Tribute To Guru (Video)

Cookin’ Soul is planning a remix tape for various artists, including this track (which has me kinda questioning the end result because of my obvious stanhood to Primo beats, what with DJ Premier > all). This small montage of clips from 1989 to 2003 is rather dope, though, so we’ll see what happens.

  1. DJ Premier > Cookin’ Soul > Solar

  2. using an legend death to boost your career is a no no…
oon some real shit to meka you should take this off
    it’s a disrespect.

  3. In no way is this a disrespect. Cookin’ Soul is always paying homage to the greats. He already has that Night of the Living Dead series with 2Pac and Biggie and both of those tapes were sick. I highly doubt he’s going to be selling this new project. So think of it like this, he’s showing you how bad ass he is with making beats over classic verses.

  4. Guru is a under appreciated legend. I honestly shed some tears when I found out about his death. And it made me more sad because I didn’t see one piece of his death on the news. R.I.P Guru. May your soul live on forever through your music

  5. Looking forward to the tape.

  6. @ who cares – i actually did see it on the news once. i opened my e-mail and it was on the front page of AOL on the day he passed. RIP

  7. that’s cause cookin soul are cornballs, some sites will co-sign anything

  8. this shit is hot, if you don’t like it keep it moving, why are you taking the time to write a hateful comment? This is a tribute, an homage, DJs and producers have done the time after time with dead rappers. Cookin Soul already did one for Pun a couple of years ago. Everybody did one for Dilla. I didn’t hear the hate then. Just let GURU rest in peace.

  9. I respect this, but you guys didn’t give any love to the fact that Group Home is coming out with an album called “Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal” which features unreleased Guru material. Group Home were brothers to Guru, and you give this guy love instead. Step your game up.

  10. There was an article in NY Daily News the day after he passed. Guru is definitely one of the most underrated, under appreciated legends of this shit. This track is dope.

  11. @StepYourGameUp

2DBZ did post the Group Home tribute song. But sad to say that joint was garbage.

  14. Just today I was bumping “Above the Clouds”. That shit still knocks to this day.

  15. @ God

Yeah that’s one of the greatest songs of all time.
Gangstarr embodies all the greatest things about what hip hop used to be.
    R.I.P.
