Q: Am I missing something? I have yet to hear anything J.Cole has done that would be deserving of any of the praise he, so routinely gets. I have tried to give him a listen and heard nothing outstanding (yet). I agree he can rap, but I’m really at a loss for how he seems to be getting so popular… To my ears he falls very short of having anything that makes him stand above any others….
If anyone wants to suggest some of his ‘finer’ works, so that I can try again to hear what I appear to be missing..

@HeathenHavoc I am a big J. Cole fan. I’ve listened to all of his music and saw him in concert. I know what you mean though. He gets alot of praise. Wait until he drops the album, he is going to get a crazy amount of praise. Especially since he will be on the radio nationally by then. I love J. Cole but he isn’t that amazing to me either.

Not a huge fan of his ‘delivery’ still.. I now see why there has buzz behind him for a while now… I think I would personally enjoy him more as a producer / ghostwriter exclusively.. (and especially if he ghost wrote a lot less about religious references..)

Heathenhavoc maybe he jus aint ur type of rapper. i’ve met alot of people that say tha same thing (Besides NYC/Brooklyn hes jus a hater) but maybe u like more complex lyrics or do u like one-word-punchline rappers?

I think I enjoy both, but I would probably lean toward complex lyrics… and ‘Simba’ was the only thing I really gave a listen before, and I really didn’t see anything overly impressive.

I mean, he has great content (from the heart, about struggles, although he personally seems to not of had much to struggle with)… but he often sounds ‘rushed’ (to me) with how many words he tries to fit in a verse just to make a simple word rhyme at the end (often a very basic or the exact same word multiple times)…
I won’t hate on others, but I think It might take a while before he would grow on me at all…
