While on set for his Fancy video, Drake reveals to MTV that Lil Wayne spit two verses off Tha Carter IV that blew his mind and made him question his career.
“He called me the other day from jail and rapped me two verses, man,” Drake said. “It really made me, like, ‘I gotta do something different. I gotta get sh– together,’ because he’s really got bars and he’s rapping from a broader life perspective, saying these things people love to hear.”
Stuff like this you gotta take with a grain of salt though. I’m sure the verses were great but there’s obviously a possibility of Drake making things seem doper than they are. Remember when Royce was saying Em’s Relapse was phenomenal? Just saying…

How many (mainstream) rappers can rhyme entire bars for entire verses and it still make sense or tell a story. With all that said Eminem is definitely overrated, but so is Wayne and Jay-Z and Kanye and Drake. None of them (except maybe Em & Jay) can fuck with a lot of underground dudes.

ANY decent rapper used to be able to write entire songs that actually follow a theme and aren’t just a bunch of punchlines, until it became a bad thing to come out with solid material every couple months vs rapping whatever comes to mind and putting out new songs every few days.
