Last night, the good folks at OnSMASH took over the Highline Ballroom in NYC; putting Jay Elect and Mr. Yaowa on the bill as the headlines. And while I’m sure there will be “official” footage coming from them soon, Waterfall came through with some to tide y’all over. Check up top as Jay Elect performs The Ghost of Christopher Wallace. Then hit the jump as Joell brought out a few guests (Fat Joe, Joe Budden, Jim Jones & Novel) to help him perform a few joints.

damn. that seemed like a SHOW.
I’ve seen many people saying that a lot of ignorant New Yorkers booed the opening acts (ChYi, STS & Big K.R.I.T.)
Disgraceful. I guess that makes sense why many artists would rather rock shows in Europe/Asia than US these days. NY is where it all started at, so why don’t they show respect to all artists that roll though.
Wouldn’t surprise me, they booed Jay Electronica the first time he opened for Nas in NY and now they cheer like he’s Jesus Christ.
Nice.
Is all I have to say.
Very nice.
@Scott did it ever occured to you that they booed those dudes because they are all garbage? You make it seem like it was Nas or some other hip hop legend talking about they need to show respect. Respect for what? What have any of them dudes done in hip hop? Fuck outta here.
He may not put out music much but Jay sure knows how to control a crowd.
Was there, shit was legendary. Joell was dope and had mad guests (Preem!), but Jay owned that stage. He went on to mention how scowl-faced NYers hold it down by forcing rappers to bring real good shit. If K.R.I.T. is good, he’ll build from being booed and come back better a year or so from now.
That being said, it’s just silly thinking “Country Shit” would go over in a crowd of NY hip hop fans.
DAMN INFBLACK DID IT AGAIN
i was there too and i agree with eDOOM. Jay got better because of being booed. btw Styles P also came out
call meeeeeeeeeeeee
jay electra need put some new material,at the same level of EXHIBIT C
got damnnnnnnnnnnn. that shit was nice. hip hop still alive when it comes to shows like that.
every new artist gets booed lol wiz khalifa used to get booed back in 05 when he was rocking with that “say yeah” bullshit. it’s a part of the game, you either grow or die from it.
@ Derek Jeter. FOH. STS & Big K.R.I.T are far from garbage. They’re 2 of the better young MC’s today. I bet you’re a J.Cole fan too. You’re part of the fucking problem as far as “fans” go.
it was such a sick fucking show. honestly one of the best shows i’ve ever been too. me and Joell exchanged Yaowa’s when he passed the line before the show. and after the show, Jay Elec came into the crowd and was taking pictures, giving daps and what not. we hugged and i told him he’s the fucking man and he was just like that’s love man thank you.
Man seeing shit like this makes me hate living in Denver we never get shit like this never! damn i need to move to NY
^^dnt feel bad. I live 35 mins away in LI and i was to lazy to go..
I can’t tell you how many new/established artist have been booed/ignored at Howard’s Homecoming (Kanye was ignored in 2003, Royce was ignored in 2001, Ghostface was BOO’ed in 2005). Fans are so fickle and unaccepting of new artists only to be top dick riders a few years later saying “I was always a fan!”.
Just seems to be the nature of this genre. STS is dope.
very dope.
I was there! I gave Jay Elec daps and everything this shit was crazyyy the DJs were killin it before hand to with the old school hip hop!
whoa, i really wanna see joell perform now!… he seems live as a mufuckaaa… i wish i oculda made this show… jay electronica is dope too…
