Take a look at how album sales were doing when GRODT came out. Now compare them to today’s sales.
On a side note, do people really associate first week sales with album quality? First week sales are generally people buying music they think will be good, not music they know is good. It’s all about a buzz and people’s determination to buy music.
Now that we have music blogs, Pandora, Youtube, the radio, music television, Zunepasses, etc we shouldn’t expect to see high album sales any time soon.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Birdman bought a lot of CDs to boost his (and YM’s) ego, but in reality Drake is a superstar across the nation, so 460k hardly blows my mind when So Far Gone has 315k downloads on Datpiff alone.
He should be feeling good about himself though, 460k is a big ass number.

i bought Drakes album and Recovery and B.O.B album. To tell you the truth, Recovery is in a league of its own. But on a basis of debut albums, B.O.B’s album is more superior then Thank me Later. I think Drake still followed his mixtape format on his album, which to me made it dissapointing. He should have stepped out and made something better considering he had every resource in the world to make a hot album. B.O.B on the other hand made alot of his own beats and even T.I didnt really do what he needed to do to support that album and it debut at Number 1…just my opinion

I in no way relate quality of material to supposed quantifiable methods of measuring an album’s worth, but I did think that the album was underwhelming at best. If his fans could be honest with themselves, they’d probably admit they were expecting a lot more from TML. If those same fans could be honest with themselves regarding his sales, they’d probably admit that anything less than gold in the first week is disappointing. 400k is far from a failure, but everybody involved was probably hoping for a lot more. Typically, sales drop at least by half in the second week, and with Marshall dropping today, you know Drake’s chances of topping next week’s charts are OVER.

You know, over 450K isn’t bad nowadays…but in Drake’s case, this was a FAIL. Not a flop, but a FAIL. Flopping is Drake selling 30K or lower, with as much support from the mainstream and fans he have.
Anyways, I think this was a prime example of how leaks can f*** up your album. Seriously. It’s true that the hype was bigger than the actual picture; I honestly thought dude was gonna go over the 500K mark, roughly 600-700K. I can put money on anything that the big percentage of his fanbase downloaded the leaked album, I’ll even say more than half. Those people who downloaded the leaked version either said “Oooo Drizzy, I love you, this is a CLASSIC!” but still didn’t buy the album yet, or they said “Meh, not as good as So Far Gone, but I’ll keep it on my iTunes and computer”. That right there could’ve been 500K stans alone. The album, mind you a mediocre album, that leaked made it worse for the fact that it didn’t live up to expectations of his best effort, which the Drake nuthuggers would say is So Far Gone; leaking something below average will kill you even more, and that is what’s happening.
I said it before, and I’ll say it again, but I think Drake is 100% chicken sh** compost, but I don’t hate on his success. Seems like the overhype is real, though, because realistically, he should’ve done close to Wayne numbers.

I, being a person who bought the album without downloading it first, am happy with it. I haven’t stopped listening to Thank Me Later since I bought it. The songs that I thought I didn’t like have really grown on me. I figured it was too slow, but the vibe has also grown on me. I absolutely lobe this album from a fan’s standpoint. Every review I’ve read has been pretty much wrong if you ask me. I didn’t hear an album ridden with one-liners and impersonal songs. It was great and I enjoyed it. You can hate it; but what I listen to doesn’t effect you, right? I thought personal taste was decided by the listener and not the whole.

okay im not goin to lie im gonna be as honest as possible… TML=Recovery. there both really good if not great albums and they both deserve platinum. TML was a great debut and it was everything i hoped for and then some and eminem did his thing and brought himself back to being good with his first non shitty album in a while but we all know that eminem has too many dick riders that will say TML blows and that recovery is way better when its not they should both do the same but eminem’s gonna beat drake out because people ride him and treat him like god

This is how I felt about Drake’s first week album sales!
Terrible album and I actually respect his game BUT… my best friend was blasting the album all day and I’ve never felt such a bleeding sensation in my ears when listening to music. I don’t know it sounded like noise to me. I expected better.
Honestly, he has talent but that has nothing to do with his album sales. Think about how many people are on young money’s nuts, and you would think he wouldn’t get album sales. Look at lil Wayne, that fool sucks balls these days, can’t even touch what he did in the beginning, but yet everyone is still on his nuts like his pub hairs are crack lines. I can’ tell you how many ghetto ass black&white people i see bumpin garbage music the day it comes out thinking they are hot shit or something. And for those talking shit on the roots, shut the fuck up. I don’t see any of the rappers (that their nuts are the honey suckles of your life) making any music using real instruments. You know why, because they can’t play worth shit. Artists should be judge by all around ability not just verbal. Drake has done well. I thought he’d only sell no more than 350K, his buzz is on the decline compared to the “Best I Ever Had”/”Successful” days; so to drop 460K domestically for a debut is really good. If he dropped this album back around V-Day and had “Over” or “Find Your Love” out he wouldve done a million easy. He sat on this too long, but he’ll probably do 250-300K next week because many people going to cop Eminem this week most likely weren’t trying to go and cop albums back to back and will probably pick both. I expect him to do 40-50% of what Em does, and he’ll be to 1.25 million domestically by summers end.

If you bought the album, it must suck to know you purchased the B-side to the So Far Gone mixtape, because that’s all that Thank Me Later is. There is nothing great about this album at all. For all of you who are saying that the album is great or hot, WHY is it hot?! All the songs and subject matter are monotonous as hell, all the beats pretty much are in the same key, there’s nothing really good about this album. I’ve listened to it about 5 times now trying to see if there is something I’m missing, but nope, it’s so easy for me not to miss what’s laid out so simplistically.
Man I jus gotta congratulate the dude with his sucess. I pretty much like the whole, with jus a few exception. But besides that he really held his own on it, I hope he touches that platinum status. (which i’m pretty sure he will)

Looking back if they had dropped this back in Feb like it was supposed to I think he would have done a lot better but it is what it is and at least he will be gold after next week.
Regarding the sales, according to the final numbers by Soundscan he sold 447,000 not 463,000 But on the real, this is good for him, I still think it’s a bit of a loss with all the hype but who knows maybe the drop off in the second week won’t be 60% like most albums.
Lastly *SMH @ the hate he gets. I know it has to do with the marketing and overexposure but I thought that the album was cool. Nothing more, nothing less. Summer album, with some cool beats and decent performances from big name features.
