Freestyle rapping is a lost art. It’s undeniable that Drake has good lyrics and that this wasn’t off the top of the dome. I said it before, when rappers actually freestyle, most of ‘em aren’t SUPER dope, cuz it’s all improv, so people say “That was kinda wack” etc. Then when rappers “freestyle” in the sense of rapping some flows from their mind’s archives or a pre-written, people say “Oh, that was prewritten and wasn’t truly a freestyle. “So and so” sucks for that.”
It’s like a lose-lose, unless hip-hop fans just stop asking/expecting rappers to truly freestyle and just enjoy it when they “spit something”. If it’s something that YOU haven’t previously heard before, it’s NEW to YOU, so what’s the difference if it was off the dome or completely spur of the moment?
