Every President is a “puppet”, regardless of color. I’m not denying that it doesn’t exist, but it’s a played out excuse. The black kids from my school who became drop outs and teenage mothers weren’t casualties of institutionalized racism, but rather lethargy and poor parenting. They are from a similar economic level as a large number of the white students at my school and were given the same educational opportunities, but chose not to take advantage them.
I’m not arguing that Obama has overturned America’s racist past, I’m arguing that he isn’t a “fluke.” He is an example of where hard work can take anyone, regardless of color. Check out the high schools around America, black students are failing because they idolize people like Gucci Mane and “want to do hoodrat stuff with my friends,” not because social Darwinism was popular 120 years ago.

Some of my best friends were beaten by the police, and I knew a kid named Lucky who was involved in a necklacing (putting tires covered in gasoline on someone and then setting them on fire.) I find this kind of generalization racist. It’s the same as saying, ‘Understand all blacks must be perceived as potential thieves and racists.’ Trust that I have a perspective that most of you don’t. One of my favorite Ras Kass tracks and I’m very much white, last I checked. This is a very knowledgeable track and I respect the message he’s getting across.
