Rick Rubin is that dude, he should produce more hip-hop records, that big sound is ill
i can’t watch this right now (damn you, work filters!), but i always loved rick rubin’s singles have to be less than 2:30 mins theory. back when everything got pressed, he said 12″ have to be less than 2:30 so the needle can really drop in and find the groove, creating that distinctive, big(^) sound. technically he may be right, but aesthetically it’s on point too. all those old run dmc, uncle l, and beastie joints hit hard and left you wanting more.
