Kamaal talks about his background & production. Honestly, I don’t know why Tip isn’t considered top-anything when it comes to producer talk, as he’s done some of the most unrivaled beats in music ever. Hell, I’ll even guarantee that most people’s favorite song on Illmatic was “One Love.” Even some of the tracks he did with Consequence (the ones I’ve heard, at least) for Cons’ next album were pure fire. But he always seems overlooked for his beatmaking skills. Wonder why.
Hip Hop, Video

dont sleep on the UMMAH!!
Q-Tip is real underated as a producer. He’s made classics.
First yessir! Look Q-Tip didnt become a hip hop honoree for nothing (Not to say that VH1 is the end all be all), But Tip has been one of the best front men ever (Do I have to name all of his legendary 16′s?). As far as his production goes WHAT more can I say? Give him his respects please if not for One Love (that alone is all you need) then what about Mobb Deep’s Give up the goods, Mariah Carey’s Honey (yep he did that too), Plus tracks for Whitney Houston as well as others. Pay Respects to Tip but if not I will quote his own words “Industry Rule No. 4080 Record Company People Are Shady”
He overlooked because few people know that he produced all the tribe albums and he rarely mentions it
Tip is an undeniable genius on the boards, but Meka that’s a hell of a guarantee considering all the other classic tracks on Illmatic.
to me, qtip is the best emcee/producer ever
On a related note, has anyone heard that new Black Sheep, Native Tongues joint? Pretty fresh. Y’all should post that. It’s kind of a big deal to a lot of folks, I would imagine. It’s called “Birds of a Feather” & it’s Black Sheep w/DeLa & Tip (also, Mike Gee from the Jungle Brothers but he doesn’t really do anything on it). I’m sure you guys have it. Anyways, just a suggestion.
Tip has definitely been always on point.
Too bad the critics haven’t been as much
He’s definitely overlooked
Hes still the best. When I hear hip hop the first thing that comes to mind is tribe and q-tip
