please. i live in arizona and i know first hand how remedial this law is…if you don’t see this as profiling i really don’t know what to tell you…the law is giving officers the right to say “if you look this way you’re okay, but if you look this way (like an illegal) i’m going to pull you over and ask you for paper work”.. meaning it’s at the discretion of the officers to determine who “looks” and doesn’t look like an illegal…if you don’t see that as profiling then i politely suggest that you take the sharpest object you can find and swollow it

If you read the 11 page document you would understand that first it mimics a federal law already in exsistence and second Cops must have probable cause to stop and ask someone for their identification. As it is right now the cops can pull you over for anything if they have probable cause the only difference now is that you have to make sure you have your Identification on you. If you are legal and have your Id on you then no big deal. By the way in arizona it has been required, for as long as i remember, that you have a valid ID on you at all times.

My problem is even if it was originally a federal law and it does say that someone would be pulled over only if suspected of some other crime I can’t believe that this will be followed to a tee…

My grandparent’s immigrated to the U.S. in the 1960′s from the Dominican Republic, and they did it legally. They waited 3 fucking years before they could finally come to this country. I don’t give a shit what goes on in Mexico, they all need to get in line if they want to come here.

Here’s the thing. Just fyi, my grandparents flew back to the D.R. after they retired BUT let’s just assume they didn’t and that they actually lived in Arizona instead of NY. Being the law abiding, respectable people they are they would be smart enough to carry their papers on them. Unless it’s really that fucking hard to carry some (practically) weightless paper around with them. If these people are so concerned about racial profiling, they should carry their papers around with them, and when a cop pulls them over they can show him and laugh in his face for ‘racial profiling’ (even though he’s probably Latino or Black too, and just doing his job). Meanwhile, the ones that are actually illegal will be caught and sent back to wherever they belong. This really isn’t that big of a deal if you’re actually legal.

the new Financial Reform act is racist in the same sense that the SB1070 law is. It only targets rich white males. Every rich white male on wall street is going to be impacted negatively. The “Reform” was created to “Curb Crime” and “Stabilize our financial markets”. Only a few bad eggs have perpetuated this horrible horrible mess we have in this country. Every White Rich Male will be subject to tougher questions and investigation as a result.

just to emphasize eY&R Bitchez’ post, there is ALREADY immigration laws such as this in all of the states. the difference in AZ is that cops are allowed to ask if they suspect something. it’s one thing to make law, and it’s completely another to enforce it.
this is AZ’s attempt at enforcing the laws that are so easy to get by. adding this makes the law more practical.
