How many times am I going to have to tell you guys? If you want some straightforward hip-hop purist music, stop trying to find it in new artist like Travie McCoy, B.o.B and Drake and stuff. These guys are trying to make MUSIC now, and blur genre lines. I personally think it’s dope. People have “just rapped” forever, and now it’s time to start expanding the horizon.
You don’t have to like it, but that’s just where music is going right now. The faster you understand that, the sooner you’ll stop complaining about every new type of joint like this not being hip-hop music.
There’s plenty of classic rap music you can go back and listen to if you want to here straight bars and gritty beats and stuff.
But if you wanna expand your horizon a bit and stop being afraid of the term “pop”, enjoy some of this new music coming out.
Now with that being said, I don’t really dig this song too much. “Billionaire” is a MUCH better joint and that’s why it’s getting all the recognition it’s getting. That will continue to be a big song this summer. This joint was obviously to lock in another fan base that Travie wanted to appeal to as well. Can’t hate on him for it, but I personally wouldn’t bump this joint, not cuz I’m so insecure with my manhood that I’d be scared to play this in public cuz what other lames would say. I wouldn’t bump it cuz I’m personally not feeling the tune…
for all of those dissin, and doubting Travies ability to spit, you should chill and listen to some of his older stuff. pick up “bernie allen” if you can find it. Its sick as fuck hes a pretty lyrical dude when he wants to be. “for the kids” and the “papercut chronicles” are pretty dope as well.
