Toki Wright – By The Time I Get To Arizona (Video)

[

On Friday, April 23rd 2010 at approximately 1:30pm Governor Jan Brewer of Arizona signed into law the most aggressive bill against undocumented residents in the United States. Under Senate Bill 1070 (SB 1070) local police departments have been given the authority to identify, detain, and deport anyone they deem to be illegally in the US based solely on their suspicion. Yet we ask, “what does illegal look like?”

We the people believe that this is not only a decision deeply rooted in racism, but also a political plot to cause disruption between the State and Federal government at the expense of hard working families. The same stigma that has plagued people of color in unfair hiring and housing practices, education, police profiling and more has now been passed into so-called “law.” Law is nothing but an opinion reinforced by intimidation. Also, how can you call someone else illegal when you live on stolen land?

  1. 4 thumbs up, keep the illegals out!

  2. seriously, everything about this law is great and should have been passed. “how can you call someone else illegal when you live on stolen land?” im speechless at that idiotic comment. stop using racism as a way out, and become a legal citizen if you want to live in the united states.

  3. Man, this is just racist fucks hiding behind laws, but wanna scream there freedom matters, this is avatar minus the guns, I don’t have nothin against white people in general but it’s there fuckin past that just keeps screaming back, they make it fuckin hard to become legal in this country, and this shit isn’t gonna help nothin, and btw black people wasn’t legal at first unless they were owned. talk about scarred for life.

  4. It’s even harder to become legal in Mexico, read this:

    American working in Mexico

“I spent five years working in Mexico . I worked under a tourist Visa for three months and could legally renew it for three more months. After that you were working illegally. I was technically illegal for three weeks waiting on the FM3 approval.

“During that six months our Mexican and U.S. attorneys were working to secure a permanent work visa called a ‘FM3′. It was in addition to my U.S. passport that I had to show each time I entered and left the country. Barbara’s was the same, except hers did not permit her to work.

“To apply for the FM3, I needed to submit the following notarized originals (not copies):
    1. Birth certificate for Barbara and me.
    2. Marriage certificate.
    3. High school transcripts and proof of graduation.
    4. College transcripts for every college I attended and
    proof of graduation.
    5. Two letters of recommendation from supervisors I had
worked for at least one year.
    6. A letter from the St. Louis Chief of Police indicating
that I had no arrest record in the U.S. and no outstanding
warrants and, was “a citizen in good standing”.
    7. “Finally, I had to write a letter about myself
that clearly stated why there was no Mexican citizen with
my skills and why my skills were important to Mexico . We
called it our ‘I am the greatest person on Earth’
letter. It was fun to write.”

“All of the above were in English that had to be translated into Spanish and be certified as legal
translations, and our signatures notarized. It produced a folder about 1.5 inches thick with English on the left side & Spanish on the right.”

“Once they were completed Barbara and I spent about five hours, accompanied by a Mexican attorney, touring Mexican government office locations and being photographed and fingerprinted at least three times at each location, and we remember at least four locations where we were instructed on Mexican tax, labor, housing, and criminal law and that we were required to obey their laws or face the consequences. We could not protest any of the government’s actions or we would be committing a felony. We paid out four thousand dollars in fees and bribes to complete the process. When this was done we could
legally bring in our household goods that were held by U.S. Customs in Laredo , Texas . This meant we had rented furniture in Mexico while awaiting our goods. There were extensive fees involved here that the company paid.”

“We could not buy a home and were required to rent at very high rates and under contract and compliance with Mexican law.”

“We were required to get a Mexican driver’s license. This was an amazing process. The company arranged
for the licensing agency to come to our headquarters location with their photography and fingerprint equipment and the laminating machine. We showed our U.S. license, were photographed and fingerprinted again and issued the license instantly after paying out a six dollar fee. We did not take a written or driving test and never received instructions on the rules of the road. Our only instruction
was to never give a policeman your license if stopped and asked. We were instructed to hold it against the inside window away from his grasp. If he got his hands on it you would have to pay ransom to get it back. ”

“We then had to pay and file Mexican income tax annually using the number of our FM3 as our ID number. The company’s Mexican accountants did this for us and we just signed what they prepared. It was about twenty legal size pages annually.”

“The FM3 was good for three years and renewable for two more after paying more fees.”

“Leaving the country meant turning in the FM3 and certifying we were leaving no debts behind and no
outstanding legal affairs (warrants, tickets or liens) before our household goods were released to customs.”

“It was a real adventure and if any of our Senators or Congressmen went through it once they would have a different attitude toward Mexico .”

“The Mexican government uses its vast military and police forces to keep its citizens intimidated and
compliant. They never protest at their capitol or government offices, but do protest daily in front of the
United States Embassy. The U.S. Embassy looks like a strongly reinforced fortress and during most protests the Mexican military surrounds the block with their men standing shoulder to shoulder in full riot gear to protect the Embassy. These protests are never shown on U.S. or Mexican TV. There is a large public park across the street where they do their protesting. Anything can cause a protest such as proposed law changes in California or Texas .”

  5. This law reminds me of the horrible oppression I felt trying to purchase a drink in my younger days.

The fascist bouncer would demand some kind of documentation to show that I was old enough to drink! Just more proof that age profiling runs rampant in AmeriKKKa!

I also still bear the scars of the being asked for my driver’s license when I got a speeding ticket, but I’m getting too choked to keep typing.

When will the never ending assault on our civil rights end?

  6. Most of the ethnicity of Mexico and South American are of a native/tribal origin whose ancestry is originally of what is now known as the North and South American continent.

European “explorers” from Spain, France and other parts of Southwest Europe are responsible for the cultural “mix” and conquered territory that we call the Southwestern portion of the United States.

I like to think of this as another form of Montezuma’s revenge(Ha,ha).

I’m not of Hispanic origin, but I am of African descent from probably many centuries ago. So I understand what it is like to FEEL as though your a 3rd or 4th class citizen and to be called 3/5′s of a human being in the American Constitution.

I’m not saying @ this point in TIME/MODERN DAY HISTORY, that there shouldn’t be a fair & balanced system and or procedure for gaining & attaining citizenship into the melting pot, but if the new law truly states that law enforcement can PROFILE someone that “LOOKS ILLEGAL” then that is incomprehensible.

Wars were fought, innocent blood was shed and destiny has been manifested for YOU to sit on your a** and surf the net, watch Jersey Slore on your 3D Samsung TV, drive your UN-ECO-friendly SUV sittin’ on thangs so you can be another SLHEEP wasting oxygen on LAND that was cultivated by the same people that want a slice of the American Pie.

**The same people that Hanes should give free products to.**
**The same people that built the railroads that allowed for the gold rush to boom and make the western frontier what it is today.**

When someone whose native tongue is Spanish, gets hired where I work and makes more than me because they can translate, yet has the same occupation, I can’t be mad because THAT IS WHAT THIS COUNTRY WAS BUILT ON…….CAPITALISM. Just means I need to learn Spanish so I can be competitive in the job market since in the very near future the Hispanic/Latino community will be one of the predominant consumers.

To summarize, everyone not born on this soil should have to go through the same citizenship procedure. No one should be illegally entering the U.S., but there shouldn’t be racist profiling laws to combat that. There are other positive solutions/alternatives to help resolve this issue.

    (**sarcasm**)

  7. So let me get this straight…40% of our prisons are filled with Non-Violent drug offenders yet I don’t see people marching down the street. But when a state government decides to actually enforce a law that needs to be enforced, this is somehow racist and crazy? get your minds right people…quit being politically correct…this is coming from a male Hispanic whose family went through all the bullshit to get here legally.

  8. I’m shocked at the stupidity this unnamed “guest” has to offer. Know your country’s history not just the white history that your schools textbooks had to offer. Yes become a citizen, but DO NOT CLASSIFY ME because I don’t look the fuckin’ part. And unfortunately nothings moving for the better, going back to my previous statement about textbooks, now AZ says that they are taking out all Ethnic Studies in the class rooms and books for their students. Another tool to uneducate our youth and make them like our “guest”
Toki thanks for trying to keep the message against this bullshit alive and goin’. See you at Soundset brother.
Oh yea “guest” get the FUCK OFF THIS SITE! It’s not for you.

  9. guess thats how you know the majority of 2dopeboyz users are white or retarded. this shit ain’t nothin but racism pure and simple.

  10. Through reading these comments I see a lot of misguided people and despite the racial implication of this law, yall sound stupid. Like you know what it feel like to be counted as 3/5 of a person, no you don’t stfu. The past is dead, stop making excuses and start living for today. If you aren’t a citizen of AZ, then you don’t know anything really beyond your two-cents, which of course is nearly worthless from your limited view of the world.

    Thanks

    Bye

  11. im gonna read into this thing, racial profiling is never a good thing. Humans abuse power alll the time, just remember the last time a bouncer abused there power, or a teacher, or a politician or a police officer.

  12. i can’t believe people are sticking up for illegals. their illegal aliens, they came into this country illegally. they broke the law. kick their ass out. and quit bringing up shit about how we stole this land from indians. guess what, thats how it works. i want your land, i invade your country and if you cant defend it, i get it. thats how its worked for thousands of years. mexicans aren’t fighting for this land, they are just abusing what white people have made this land to be.

  13. yo’ Toki glookin’reppin the Twin Cities lovely… Chuck D allday!

ps. you don’t need to live in AZ to comment on their obvious racist new law.

  14. The White Man is the most discriminated person in America.

If myself and a black person go for the same job, the Black person better get it or its racist.

If myself and a woman go for the same job, the woman better get the job or its sexist.

If myself and a gay go for the same job, the gay better get it or its discrimination.

  15. I’m guessing the people calling this law “Racist” haven’t actually read it as it actively prevents any action based solely upon race.

I’d highly suggest a quick read-through so you don’t embarrass yourselves any further.

    http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070h.pdf

    Here’s the important part:
“A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL… MAY NOT SOLELY CONSIDER RACE, COLOR OR NATIONAL ORIGIN IN IMPLEMENTING THE REQUIREMENTS OF THIS SUBSECTION…”

  16. @Wood…
    There it is!

  17. im glad to see there are some people with there heads on straight on this site, unlike killyaself who i guess would really like to see our country swarmed with illegal aliens. and what history exactly would you like me to learn that would change my mind that i don’t want people walking into our country illegally and not becoming an actual citizen? stop using racism as an excuse for everything to get your way, makes you sound very stupid

  18. Yeah…anyone who lives outside AZ shouldn’t be commenting. The Federal Government isn’t doing anything about the influx of illegal immigrants so AZ took it into their own hands to take action. The illegal immigrant population is growing at a vast rate in the AZ & the US and if the Federal Government – Right, Left, Purple, Blue, Green – speak out about the illegal immigrants, they will lose votes plain & simple. Another failure of government. And it’s a copout to call this measure racist. Educate yourselves.

  19. Don’t learn from history, doomed to repeat it.

@ And One, Obviously you didn’t read my summary.

@ Wood, thanks for diggin’ up the info.

The problem I have with that is that it will be abused by reckless law enforcement. Meaning that it gives them somewhat of a reason to profile more specifically, people of color.

  20. Doesn’t Mexico have a similar law?

  21. I for one have no problem with them enforcing the law but law could’ve been written up a different way. Even though it is stated that police officers are NOT allowed to base their judgements simply on race, it doesn’t mean that these police officers won’t base it on race. the law has too many flaws in my opinion. Which will just cause confusion and thousands of lawsuits against the AZ police.

I believe that people should be free to come to this country but I also believe that those people should do it the right way. Undocumented illegals take a major toll on this country financially. Car insurance is high because they’re are illegals rolling in uninsured cars cuz they don’t have SSN’s. This country is also overpopulated because of illegals. States can’t get the funding they need for schools, public housing and other city improvements because they can’t account for all of their population in the census.

So yes the law can be percieved as racist to many but when you look at the big picture it makes sense to do this. Think about it…don’t you think that Mexico would do the same exact thing if we was jumping the fence to get into their country illegaly. Not everything is about race.

  22. I thought Toki would have known better. This is just ignorant sh*t. Let me know when his law is actually abused, then we’ll talk. Illegals have no room here. Go through the citizenship process so you can help pay taxes. That’s not racist at all!

If this is the best material Toki can write about, I guess I won’t be listening.

  23. “Undocumented”=ILLEGAL
Great law, Arizona is the second highest rate of kidnapping anywhere in THE WORLD columbia being first thas crazy, and def related to ILLEGALS.And calling this land stolen is stupid, If Mexico defeated America and took the land it would be theirs, nations taking other nations its been happening for DECADES

  24. I thought Toki would have known better. This is just ignorant sh*t. Let me know when his law is actually abused, then we’ll talk. Illegals have no room here. Go through the citizenship process so you can help pay taxes. That’s not racist at all!
    ————————————————————
No, it’s not racist. PROFILING is racist. SB1070 clearly leaves several loopholes open for racial profiling.

I don’t know who here is black and who’s white, but you’d think that African Americans would be more prone to fight against civil rights violations. This is the same “not-in-my-backyard” mentality I saw with Prop 8 in California.

  25. ^LOL at “nations taking nations for decades”. History comprehension fail.

  26. “It’s even harder to become legal in Mexico”
    .
Yeah, because Mexico is the land of opportunity and people lose their lives to try to enter it. Get the fuck out of here. Just put yourself in the Mexican people’s shoes. You either go to the U.S. and risk your life to support your family, or you stay in Mexico and watch your family suffer and die. I bet you would choose the former too.

  27. ^^^^or you can go to the US and LEGALLY become a citizen and support your family, not cross the border and live in our country illegally and getting the support they do not deserve

  28. Or you can get skin pigmentation surgery so you look white. That way you won’t have to carry your passport and proof of citizenship with you whenever you go out in public.

No one here seems to understand SB1070. It’s going to lead to profiling against ALL HISPANICS AND ANYONE WHO LOOKS HISPANIC. A Hispanic who gets pulled over for having a busted taillight may be forced to prove he’s a legal citizen, and may not have documentation (do you carry your passport with you?). That’s the problem.

  29. How hard is it to carry a passport? What is your solution to the crime, drug trafficing, kidnapping, & murder from the waves of illegal immigrants? Just do nothing? Let everything continue as is?

  30. Have any of you read up on the law (sb1070)? Or just going with what they say in the papers and the news if so kill your self.

  31. Show and prove time HHIDBOY.

Where are these racial profiling “Loopholes” you mentioned?

Here’s the full text of the law:

    http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070h.pdf

Show me where the “loopholes” are. It’s cool, I’ll wait.

  32. Ummm how do you look Hispanic? Hispanic is not a race. I’ve seen white Hispanics and black Hispanics and those whose are in between. Case in point Vincente Fox, Mexico’s ex-President is white as snow (like almost all South American presidents) and Christina Milan is a black Cuban. Hispanic and Latino are made up words that ignorantly puts people of different cultures and ethnicities into the same box. And about the law I don’t know how I feel about it…

  33. “lawful contact” = loophole. lawful contact can mean a helluva lot of things. an officer can use this legislation for some devious isht.

boycott arizona. same state that didn’t wanna celebrate mlk day. one time’s an anomaly, two times i’m starting to see a pattern.

  34. soul tools…apt?

  35. Try again Bushytop.

“Lawful Contact” was stripped out and replaced with “Lawful stop, detention or arrest”

    http://www.azgovernor.gov/dms/upload/HB_2162Signed.pdf

I know you value emotion over reason, but stop distorting the facts. It just makes your look ignorant.

  36. An officer can do any devious shit if he really wants to.

  37. im in arizona and this is a good law. its actually a good law. many people who support it are afraid to admit it because they will get labeled a racist. which is well off the mark, this prop isnt racist at all. we have no problem with legal people regardless their race, just the illegal ones. we get alot less respect if we go to mexico, there isnt stuff written in english for us there. arizonans struggle to find work, because people who are not legal here are holding those jobs. those who opose this proposition would have a better undertanding if they lived here for at least a couple weeks.

  38. Prometheus Brown (aka Geo of the Blue Scholars) put out a song with the hook from the old Public Enemy track a couple weeks ago

    http://bluescholars.com/blog/2010/05/new-music-joe-arpaio-by-prometheus-brown/

  39. fuck this racist ass pricks pretty much if u dont have blue eyes blonde hair u can get arrested

  40. I love the ability of people here to throw out logic completely in their arguments. It is a logical fallacy to assert a claim without substantial proof which no one has provided since they are too f****** stupid to actually go out and do research. By the way most arguments here are also based on the the logical fallacy of an Emotional Appeal(a quick google search will validate what I’m saying). Arizona did the right thing with this law and the more dumb bastards like Toki change words, such as illegal->undocumented, the more it looks like they are f****** retards. I guess most people against the law here haven’t seen that 60-75% of Americans support the law. That means 60-75% of Americans are racist according to people who don’t use logic. It really disturbs me to see dumb people post ignorant things against this law with no proof to add to it. By the way, citing history as proof does not proof anything. This also is a logical fallacy. I’m rather pleased to see a large amount of people here support the law. It makes me happy that not all people are brain dead retards. Good job arizona(I’ve read the bill in it’s entirety which most of the people calling it racist have not), and by the way I’ve read that 17 other states plan to follow suite and implement similar laws to Arizona in response to public support for it. I guess this means that 17 other states are completely racist too.

  41. Hey j4oye8djdv5eojj1efl2, very interesting post, it really got me thinking. etom1lyfno 13zji4cmdo Thank you. qvnw6yrium
