You can go all the way back to the 70′s if you really want to but if you ask true hip hop heads their idea of the golden era of hip hop they would say the 80′s-90′s probably every time. Hip hop back in the 70′s-early 80′s was more soul than it was hip hop. Hip hop as we know it today or I should say 10 years ago was built on mc’s battling. There was a time where you couldn’t get any producers to work with you, you couldn’t get any interviews, you couldn’t get any co-signs, you couldn’t get any shows, you couldn’t get any radio spins, and so on unless you were considered LYRICALLY great. The south and north argument has been in the folds for years and yes at one time it was believed that the level of rap prowess there was not matching that of the north. But it has been long since then and with names popping up and showing us whats good, this debate is no longer valid. the “real” hip hop heads see the little brother’ and the Cee lo green’s. they see the Andre 3000′s and the Scarface’s. You don’t have to take the helm every time an ignorant comment is made.

While I agree that Jay Elec doesn’t need to answer every ignorant comment made about the south, I think you’re wrong about the stereotype. It’s still around and there’s still a heavy bias against the south. Kay Slay really had no business commenting at all either so his fat ass should’ve kept his mouth shut. He’s just salty his boy, papoose, never got loved and n.y stay losing money revenue. At the end of the day, they’re both wrong but the issues Jay Elec argued are more truthful than Kay Slays, which is just his ignorance.
