It was wise of him to try and work with other people but not this guy. Eminem ABSOLUTELY is at his rapping best, but an amazing rapper deserves an amazing beat, and the producer just didn’t supply.
Perhaps they’ll remix this song or something down the road. I’m not one to say that a single has to be poppy and all that, but can you picture yourself listening to this one as much as My Name Is, Real Slim Shady, and Without ME? I didn’t think so.

That said, it sounds like it’s better for him than it is for us. He sounds like this is a song he made more for himself than for fans. Kind of a way of making a break from the past going forward to the new stuff.

It’s not perfect and I’m not hailin’ Em as the GOAT, but I like this a lot.
I can see why people don’t like the beat, but I think it gave a simple backdrop for Em to pour everythin’ into the song. Also, the fact that Em’s way better than the beat sorta works in his favour, his obvious dominance over it makes him stand out and seem even more triumphant, which fits the song perfect, and it makes me appreciate it more even if its not intentional. It’s not like the beat is horrid or unlistenable anyway.

I don’t particularly feel any one way about this track. I think it’s decent overall. It will probably grow on me over time, anyway. But what I appreciate more than anything here is that he skipped over what became his signature catchy/goofball first single that pokes fun at other celebs, and went straight to the introspective, mood-driven second single. Which, coupled with his starting to work with outside producers, let’s you know he’s willing to switch it up and maybe start taking real chances with his albums. I’m taking this as a good indication of what’s coming.

First off, word to Trigga-A above. Comparing the drake and em tracks are like comparing (and I know i might start some shit with this one) Pac and BIG – the reason that argument will never really be settled is b/c they were radically different types of MC’s.
Anyway, as for the Em track: this is pretty ill, especially if you’re one of the people who think his older stuff was better. I didn’t feel relapse, and definitley wasn’t feeling refill, at least not like this. Em finally is coming clean on this. He realizes that the jokes he used on his last two albums undermined his artistic integrity. For cats like me who GREW UP listening to Em — there’s no arguing he’s been one of the biggest hip-hop acts in the last 10-15 years — it’s really good to hear him back in form. I think a lot of us felt we had lost a voice that we came up hearing, and that shit hurt — to watch an artist that influenced you and got you through good and bad times just stop making music the way he used to was tough to swallow. So hearing him come back like this is almost an emotional experience, you dig?
Whether or not you really dig this song, it’s clear that Em is at least moving back toward his old style, and for those who’ve been following him since the slim shady lp, that’s a welcome return.

It’s definitely a song for the message, not neccessarily the beat and lyrical ability, although I’m feelin gthe first verse the most. Beat is a little corny, but then again the whole song is. It’s just a feel good song and Em chose the beat for a reason. He had many others to pick from.
Best part about the song was him admitting Relapse was weak, which is getting me excited for the rest of Recovery. I know he’s gonnna come with some real shit. If he attacks the beat like he did on the freestyle, the combination of passion and real shit could make a classic album.

It seems like Em’s finally realizing that he’s getting to old for the fart jokes but he’s yet to figure out exactly his strengths beyond his humor lie. On his classics it was never about just rapping really well but being able to do so with strong storytelling and a certain honesty. This, like his ‘Drop The World’ and ‘Forever’ verses, is just regular battle rap Eminem sprinkled with emotional platitudes. He puts on his serious face and raps intensely about vaguely somber or inspiring stuff. There’s no narrative, no truth. Just ‘fuck the world, feed it beans.’ But at least he’s not saying it in an Elmer Fudd accent
