Vintage: Kanye West & Rhymefest Circa 2002 (Video)

This is actually very dope to see. I absolutely love seeing footage from back in the day that reminds me of how good music truly is. Many props to Andrew for unearthing this…

Here we have some super exclusive footage of Kanye West in his New Jersey home studio in early 2002, working on music for himself as well as Rhymefest’s demo. This was from a vintage episode of Channel Zero, the Chicago Hip-Hop show that Coodie (now with Creative Control) operated with Tittyhead Ted and Danny Sorge back in the late ’90s/early ’00s that has been highly requested on the site for a very long time.

In this two part clip , you can hear a very, very early version of “Jesus Walks” – the one that originally featured Rhymfest – and a handful of unreleased ‘Ye and ‘Fest records. Later on, Kanye even performs “Livin’ A Movie” incorporating various titles from his DVD collection. Hardcore ‘Ye fans know that one.

    I wouldn’t say that, but…

Kanye is a artist that’s fun to watch because of the transformation he’s taken from the beginning of his career, which is like a a 7 year period(College Dropout dropped 2003, I’m starting from his first album) It doesn’t even seem like it was 7 years ago my pops was playing College Dropout in the car and he bought me the album too.

  13. ^Damn how old are you, lol. Seriously though Kanye will go down as the greatest rapper of our generation & i remember seeing that Through The Wire video on MTV b4 CD droppedd & i been a fan ever since.

  14. ^^He might not be considered the greatest rapper of our generation (Jay-Z & Nas are still alive and kickin’) but he’s definitely going down as one of the most influential rappers of the post-backpacker era. I remember copping College Dropout and thought it kinda did bring backpack rap to mainstream, and everybody was gettin’ on that. Now that he’s into high fashion now instead of Polos, he influenced this whole hipster schtick, thus paving lanes for the Lupes and Drakes of this world.
