Gyptian – Hold Yuh (Video)

When I lived in Los Angeles, I witnessed essentially the dissolution of dancehall, reggae and other Caribbean riddims with the explosion of reggaeton, with most of the radio stations deading almost every aspect of the former from playing them during mix shows to canceling the few shows they did have. So it’s kind of interesting to see this type stuff out East, as I’ve not been used to seeing it on a consistent basis in a few years. Anyways, the point of this diatribe is to wonder if anybody out West has heard this cut, which is very popular out here. Props to Looseneck.

  1. Jamaica to DI WORL’!

  2. My girl listens to Gyptian. Dude is talented, but his tracks tend to be soft. Gentleman has some dope tracks too.

    Reggaeton blows.

  3. the music video + aids prevalence in african americans = epic fail

a dance hall video with booty wow thats innovative

  4. i would love to understand him. sounds cool tho.

  5. Don’t worry. Just understand that all Jamaican songs have a secret meaning of sex behind them -

    And fuck reggaeton.

  6. this chune is dope… albeit old, but dope none the less.

@LV dont forget the secret meaning of killing gay people…

its not ALL jamaican music, just that Shotta shit… jamaicans are trying to ban artists that promote violence on the public radio in Jamaica…

    ah…i still love my dancehall…

agree with the consensus — fuck reggaeton…

  7. I’m Puerto Rican & I say fuck reggaeton. I’ll still dance to it but I never bump that shit. It used to be cool but then it got all poppy & shit & became dame music. All my cousins that live on the island listen to english & Puerto Rican hiphop, reggaeton is strictly for the clubs & parties. Salsa >>> reggaeton.

  8. dope am from grenada but the song get stail as they played out so much

  9. I love to spin a little bit of dancehall in my sets but it doesn’t get much exposure here in the Bay Area on radio, so I was glad to hear this track to play out. First time I was exposed to the riddim (what’s this riddim called?) was via a Ted Smooth remix of Rihanna’s “Rude Boy”: I didn’t hear this track until after.

  10. @ DJ NeoGeo: this song is the titular track of the riddim so it is the Hold Yuh Riddim

  11. @Daddy Kilo Thanks for the info! Still can’t find the Gyptian track without Nicki Minaj’s verse, though, but I’ll keep looking

  12. To Killadelphia…He is letting the girl know her vagina is the tightest one he has ever experienced (how charming). He mentions he will have it anytime, anywhere…etc, you get the picture.
