DJ Premier x Pete Rock x 9th Wonder = “Secret” Album?

Let me find out if this is actually true…

DJ Premier & Pete Rock were sitting together for an interview when they had to do their show in Montreal, Canada. A local radio station took their time to both interview them and I have off course the audio of that. They talk about their upcoming projects, their secret project, InI, Guru, who’s the best today in NY, the best places for hip hop outside USA, working with artists outside the USA and they had to define each other style in one word + giving top 3 of each other and some other games… Props to Pete Rock for naming a fucking real top 3 of DJ Premier, damn! Don’t expect their project with 9th Wonder soon, at least next year if you hear what DJ Premier is going to release this year (if he’ll make it). – DJ Premier Fan Site

This is the type of stuff music fans lose their collective minds over, but with some many people flopping on their stuff Vlade Divac-style (oh hai Andre Young), you’ll have to pardon my skepticism for this particular project. Still, it’s definitely got me intrigued to see if they will actually pull something like this off. Music fans have been clamoring for a Primo/Chocolate Boy Wonder album for nearly two decades now, and with an influx of talents from all over the country imagine the possibilities (Pac Div over Pete Rock? Gangsta Gibbs and Pill over Primo? 9th Wonder and Outasight?). But – and as usual – let’s keep the wishful thinking to a minimum.

  1. That’s true Meka, but if they did pull it off…oh man.

But if it’s going to be sometime next year, then lets not get our hopes up quite yet. I hope they keep us informed though.

  2. Hop-hop has been making moves lately, lots of crazy shit is brewing.

Oh and that dude is so Canadian it hurts

  3. ALL I CAN SAY IS …….WOW!!

  4. If these collabos ever see the light of day and I mean actual albums I would cop 10 of them motherfuckin joints.

  5. not really a secret considering they just tweeted it :\

  6. I’m still waiting for Lynwood Rose (Q-Tip, Sadiq, and D’Angelo), Q-Tip + Common, and D-tox. Not really waiting for Ocean’s 7, but I don’t think I’ve heard anything from them with Usher yet (and he was supposed to be the guy who started the whole project). Usher, Luda, and Jon never really did any more music together though, which always left me skeptical over Ocean’s 7. Slaughterhouse lived up to the hype, but they did sort of rush things.

Having these three legendary producers working together could be magical, but I rather not get my hopes up just yet.

  7. If that`s so….. DAAAAAMN!

  8. Man, I hope it’s for Nas but ain’t Ye working with them too on his new album?

  9. I need more details besides “secret project”. I’m not a true believer JUST yet.

  10. :O

  11. This can have enormous potential to be great, but if it fails, it will fail miserably.

  12. Pill over Primo?

Did you mention pill for the sake of payola?

Seriously? You motherfuckers are taking this shit too far.

How about Skyzoo, J.Cole, Stimuli, over Primo/Pete/9th?

  13. We’ve all heard broken promises from Premo before, so I’m personally not holding my breath. *ahem* The whole NaS x Premo album anyone? I’m with Mek, a bit skeptical.

  14. This would be a symphony more than a rap album!

  15. >>>Slaughterhouse lived up to the hype…<<<

Completely disagree. Slaughterhouse is & was all hype.

  16. OH ,GOD didn’t exist!!!!!!!! but PREMIER x PETE ROCK x 9TH yes

are u kidding me¿¿¿¿ i will smoke some blunts tonight thinking about this, and recording also recording some rap

    oh ,jesus christ
slaughter .. .pharrell lupe and kanye,the-dream kanye,q-tip sadiq d’angelo, this premo 9th pete, etc reminds me to one thing of method man

First.. there was the collapse of civilization

Then.. when it seemed like shit couldn’t get any more fucked up

    etc

  17. ^^^^^^^
    What. The. Fuck?

  18. Bill Fienberg, like I said, they did rush the project and it could have been better. However, the fact that they actually came out with an album and that it did have quite a few dope tracks (Microphone and Onslaught 2 at the very least) with strong lyricism was why I said it lived up to the Hype. They came out with material fast and did satisfy the plenty of doubters who didn’t even think they would do much more than Onslaught, Move On, and Fight Club.

Not too many people seemed to even know Crooked I before the album, and people actually look out for his music now. They came out with an album and it was good. Not only that, but the members of the group have collaborated separately on a few tracks to further add to their catalogs. Royce and Joey especially.

  19. is it still considered a “secret project” now that they have told everybody?

  20. holy shit i can’t stand that Quebecer accent… wow.

  21. How about J. Cole over 9th or Premo!?

Blu rocking with Pete Rock…..smh too ill to imagine

  22. “Slaughterhouse is & was all hype.”

Each member (well minus Crooked I) has put out massive amounts of QUALITY material over the last 3-4 years.

  23. Yo chris_martian, what the fuck?

  24. Slaughterhouse didn’t live up to the hype at all to me. It was a decent album, nothing special to me.

  25. Fuck this shit wheres Lebron Flocka James 2????!?
Nah but seriously this made me jizz myself when I saw it earlier

    *STANDS AND CLAPS*

  27. i love haters

  28. damn that’s crazy!!

  29. true hiphop at its finest. can’t wait.

  30. This “secret album” better involve Nasir Jones on all the freakin’ tracks, with 9th Wonder replacing Large Pro and making a sequel to Illmatic (hell yeah I said sequel). Sh** Raekwon made a sequel and executed like a muthaf***a, so I know Esco got it in him.

  31. fuck 9th wonder, replace him with Xtra P, and now you have the classic three punch combo of hip hop.

  32. *Mind Blown*

  33. @D. ,i will love this idea

“Illmatic (hell yeah I said sequel).”

  34. max b¿ hahahah lol

  35. Y’all heard the man! We over here in Germany worship Premo! People just straight wild out when he goes “it’s the real hip hop, hip hop”.
And I am always first row reciting ALL the lyrics, breaking my neck, having goosebumps…the whole nine! I felt like he personally adressed me when he said that:)

  36. Lmaooo… fuck outta here with those suggestions on who they should work with… Pill, Outasight, Pac Div, and Freddie Gibbs? If 3 of hip hops best producers ever get together to make an album, they better not waste it on average rappers like this.

  37. Blu is the new soul provider so I expect him on this

  38. they gotta get Thee Tom hardy & Yelowolf over a Primo BANGER

  39. Wow!!

  40. “fuck 9th wonder, replace him with Xtra P, and now you have the classic three punch combo of hip hop”

    No.

  41. if this drops, intelligence/morals become cool, and fathers start taking care of their kids the world will be perfect

  42. Just like DJ Premier’s long awaited solo album and 9th Wonder’s Wonder Years album? Riiiiiight
