I don’t like Drake’s videos. None of the video’s relate to the actual song the video was shot for.

I was antsy to see it and also a little afraid that it might be a total failure like the “Best I Ever Had” video. It wasn’t. You can visibly tell he did play it safe, but it was a decent, simple, yet eclectic video.
People will DEFINITELY find things to say about it, because it wasn’t completely complicated and detailed, so those who don’t care for Drake anyways and mindlessly hate regardless will be able to reach and find something bad to say about it. Overall, it was dope to me. Though it was simple, it doesn’t necessarily look like the videos coming out these days. I think the symbolism of the projections of different images on the walls were dope. What I gathered from that is something how I feel just sitting in my room, introspectively thinking about the future. Not saying it was the greatest video ever, but I think it was good, and certainly not a fail like people will call it just because that’s the new thing to do now.
The video was directed by Anthony Mandler. (Rihanna (“Russian Roulette”), Beyoncé (“Irreplaceable”), Jay-Z (“Run This Town”), and Mary J. Blige, for which he teamed up with the Canadian artist on “The One.”)
You can see a few sentiments of MJB’s “The One” in the video, now that I think about it.
By the way, the girl that favors Keyshia Cole a little bit on her VIBE cover is BEAUTIFUL. I just found out her name is Rita Ora and she’s a Roc Nation artist from London. “Two Thumbs Up”.

I agree the video didn’t seem to fit the song. It’s too upbeat for such a somber theme. And the whole sitting alone in a bedroom setting it cliche as hell, but some of the effects were dope. All in all, I think he was trying to make a point, but missed the mark.

Drake should have never done interviews talking about this video. Because he personally hyped it out, and it just is not that great. It’s good and I think he is a good artist. But he made it out to be bigger than what it actually is.

This video was all “OVER” the place stylistically. The Projections are crazy hot. I think they should have just played around with that idea… It seems like they tried too hard to make it insane and used too many different concepts rolled up into 1 video.

I think the vid is way better than the song. He said the track is about him pausing to reflect on his successes, what has happened to him and to look at where he’s at now, which this does show.
The part where he’s sat on the bed alone but the walls display a city with people walking busily is cool to me, kinda suggests feeling seperated or alone despite seeing and meeting so many people, the latter part of which def. fits the song. He’s also made several songs talking about wanting to settle down with a girl, and several about being caught up with groupies and the high life… so the part with the hot girl who appears to be his love interest vs. the dancing, half-naked girl towards the end is cool to me too, and since it’s a contrast he’s brought up a few times in songs previously, why not put it in the vid for his album’s 1st single?
I still think the song’s meh, hate the hook and some rhymes are disappointing. The vid’s simple, kinda cliche at times but effective imo.. which is basically what the song is like. I’m far from mad at it, and still think the album could be good.
