Consequence Working w/ Kanye & Q-Tip On New LP (Video)

Cons speaks with MTV about his upcoming album, ConsTV which is set for a Summer release.

“This album — the first time ever you have a album executive-produced by Kanye West and Q-Tip, which essentially makes it, from a soundscape point of view, The Blueprint meets Midnight Marauders,” he said of West’s work on the Jay-Z classic and Tip’s work with A Tribe Called Quest. “It’s an incredible album.”

He also speaks on the reasoning behind releasing his Movies On Demand mixtape for free (text after the jump).

“It was incentive — the reason for putting out Movies on Demand was because I really had to drive home the point of what the album was gonna be and sonically what people had to look forward to,” Con explained. “Sometimes when you have such a gem … it catches late. You have to have creative and innovative ways to catch people’s interest. That’s why I gave the mixtape away for free — I don’t need your money, I need your ears. I’ll get the paper later. I’ll get the paper regardless. But when I have your ears and you’re hearing these lines and the authenticity to what hip-hop is — that’s priceless.

“That’s something I grew up on,” he added. “Hip-hop has always been something to come out of nowhere, that’s why I think with Movies on Demand, it executes all the fundamentals that hip-hop brings to the table from the grassroots level to its highest peak.”
