The criteria for the Freshmen 10 is so shaky. I mean if we talking about relevance, then Drake technically wouldn’t be on 09 Cover since nobody really knew who he was until So Far Gone. I mean if you mess with the web you did, most people don’t even realize that was him in Replacement Girl. Then again you could argue he should have been on the cover for his work on Comeback Season (which wasn’t bad at all)…Either way I can see his argument but Nicki…I had no idea who she was until 2009…
Wouldn’t an artist becoming known in late 2008-2009 exclude them from the 2010 freshmen lineup anyway? Besides, even if we didn’t know her until she started popping up on popular songs now – she’s still surpassed every freshmen on that list. Not a fan of her style but she, Drake and Wayne are pimping America right now with their acts. So more power to them when it comes to showing respect for their hustle. I think I’d rather hear her mixtape tracks where she doesn’t do that whole weird ass style.
