Good morning y’all! Thought I’d start off the day with a soulful joint. Since we were blessed with Ski Beatz’s Taxi yesterday, I’ve been digging around, trying to find out what song Ski sampled and perverted into harmonic obliteration. With the help of a good friend (Peace, Kaboe!), we have the original sample for your listening pleasure. It’s by The Persuaders, called A Thin Line Between Love & Hate, off the album with the same name. You may probably remember the song featured on the Crooklyn soundtrack as well. As a bonus, I threw in the original sampled in Jay Electronica’s Exhibit C; Billy Stewart’s Cross My Heart.

Billy Stewart is a G. Cross My Heart was sampled on the Warm Up I think. J. Cole killed that shit too
it’s a. it’s a. wow nice catch never would of guessed that was that sample :)
If you can find the whole album (Billy Stewart, “I Do Love You”), grab it. It’s incredible in it’s entirety.
this post is the first time i’ve really been able to realize the amazing amount of artistry that these producers put into chopping and flippin these older classics(outside of the obvious mainstream songs). now i gotta really start payin attention to Meka’s Mix posts…this site keeps growing on me…
Goshdarnit! fiyahhhhhhhhhhhh
dammn i like the idea. keep up the posts like this. and hopefully Meka does keep up the Soul Mix Show’s
j cole used the billy stewart sample too
he actually sampled the lost generation’s version of that “love & hate” song
damnnnnn ski flipped the shit outta this fuckin’ sample!!!!
For the record, I would have liked to hear someone flip the Lost Generation cover of A Thin Line Between Love & Hate, which I think is stronger.
J. Cole sampled it on “Get Away” also another song was sampled on that track I can’t remember the name of it just samples the “this fat boy’s gonna love her” line
To be honest I’m happy to hear the original sample but this is still Sample Snitchin’
so over the last few months ive been getting more into finding the samples for songs and ive seen a few comments like jajawi’s up above. whats the big deal about revealing what song a producer sampled? its a great way to discover classic, and sometimes obscure, music and it also really shows the creativity of a producer. can someone enlighten me?
Props!
Ski Beatz chopped this up masterfully
jjjjjjjjcole!that track goes. big ups 2ski2
kickdrums used a “thin love between love and hate” in their version of Ray Cash’s “She a G”
