Drake Talks Over Video

Drake speaks with MTV about the upcoming video for his Thank Me Later single.

“This is my first video,” the Young Money franchise player said, sitting in his trailer. “I’ve shot a lot of videos before, but this is my first attempt to establish myself as Drake the artist. Shooting the other videos I’ve done has been great. I really don’t care what other people think about them, they were great experiences for me. I’ve learned a lot from them. Today, I’m shooting with somebody I really look up to and respect. I’m shooting with Anthony Mandler.”

“We talked colors, we talked epic, emotion-evoking visuals,” the 23-year-old Toronto native said of the collaborative “Over” video. “The story is actually interesting. The song is so aggressive, and it’s sort of a love story in the video. It has a lot to do with the album [Thank Me Later]. The album is about finding love, feeling ‘Have I sold my soul’ as far as ‘Will I ever be able to gain the trust of a woman? Will I only be able to be around the dark, evil women? Will I ever find that pure love?’ Those elements are in the video. I look strong, I feel great, my knee’s feeling great. I’m jumping around, doing all kinds of stuff.”

The song “Over” touches on Drake reaction to fame and stardom. ” ‘Over’ was definitely a choice of mine,” he said of releasing it as a single. “I’ve got a lot of great songs on the album. A lot of songs that sound familiar but are brand-new. I still got the same emotions of the songs you love, whether it be ‘Say Something’ or ‘Best I Ever Had’ or ‘Bedrock.’ For people who enjoy what I’ve done in the past, I’ve got a lot of songs to cater to them. But ‘Over’ was a song I did for myself.

  1. Uhhh didnt he say something like this for the Best I Ever Had video? I’m still interested to see if he can redeem himself from his other vids

  2. Good for him…no Lil Wayne is also a plus for him.

  3. he didnt respect Kanye?

  4. im sure he isnt going to do another video like best i ever had..judging by the clip it will be a serious one

  5. damn.. he shitted on kanye

  6. “judging by the clip it will be a serious one”

what? all he was doing was standing in front of a green screen. how is that “serious”?

  7. ^^^^LMAOOOOOO

  8. what i meant was he’s taking the vid serious…he’s obviously taking a more serious approach to this as its his first single

  9. With Best I Ever Had I think his intentions when he created the song differed largely from public reaction. Based on earlier interviews Drake views that song as semi-degrading comedy while the mass public viewed it as a heart warming ode to love. I would fall into the later category. I do see his perspective, and have to ultimately understand that’s what the song is about, but the song still seems an ode to a lover.

  10. Hopefully the video turns out good. But from what Im seeing it looks like the typical “Stand in front of a screen and rap” vid.

  11. lol @ “Will I only be able to be around the dark, evil women?”

explains the lack of black chicks in “Best I ever Had”… I’m just saying…

  12. will be the same as all other rap videos.
hence why no one gives a flying fuck about music videos anymore.

  13. ^^^
    lame.

  14. “the album is about finding love”…huh? ooookayyy

  15. The more interviews this dude does, the harder it is to ignore his corniness.

  16. ^^^^ Couldnt have said it any better

  17. im gettin that kanye “amazing” vibe from this, but thats just based on the play with the camera

  18. Drake’s just real upset about those first videos right? Damn.
Successful was him and Trey on a first date, with each other. Best I Ever Had made the biggest single of the year mute-able. I’m Still Fly with Big Page looks like a low budget Successful…we get the rap, why are you ACTUALLY on green screened clouds? Replacement Girl with Trey shot by Lil X wasn’t awful, his only decent (I said decent, relax) effort.

And this is coming from a huge Drake fan. (HI Haters!)
He needs to step the video game up for sure.

  19. Come now Successful was great song and a great video. It took you back to the old Drake, when it was just him and Trey doin they thing.

Im not too much of a fan of this particular single, but it is decent enough where I can fuck with it. I hope the video will be great. You really cant say anything until its done and released.

I didnt like Replacement Girl when I first saw it.

  20. looks like ass man yall trippin

  21. Speakin of which wat y’all think bout this Massacre Mega Remix I made of the Drake song?: http://www.jamglue.com/mixes/15581023-Over-Massacre-Mega-Remix-

  22. Hes coming to UCF Im going to flip my ticket and by trees.

  23. @prk

How are you getting the “Kanye Amazing Vibe” from standing in front of a green screen?

And I agree Drake comes off really corny in his interviews. He’s talking about the albums theme being love and all this shit, when the first single was him talking about the same shit he always talks about, which isn’t love.

  24. Anthony Mandler is a hack.

  25. best i ever had was the best video last year… titties…. yay (retardedly)!

  26. @ GrahamCEO

the video didn’t come out yet.

  27. over better have titties, cameos from the cast of degrassi and more titties… or ill be pissed

  28. got bored lmao

  29. Drake da Director

  30. If I don”t see a Justin Bieber collab with Drake’s name on it, I will be bitterly dissapointed….

  31. @GrahamCEO- REPLACEMENT GIRL WAS NOT SHOT BY LIL X, it was shot by Sterling *FACT

  32. oh jesus, it’s going to be another “I’M BLIND AND DON’T KNOW WHERE THE CAMERA IS SO I’M GOING TO HOP AROUND LIKE AN IDIOT AND TRY TO FIND IT” video just like “Forever”

  33. Haha how much you guys bet he spends 80% of that video doing that stupid hand movement shit?

  34. cosign dubcyde
this french canadian jew is way too corny

  35. i wonder if he’s going to have eminem at the end with slaughterhoue around him.

  36. I’m a Drake fan, and want to see the video when it comes out, but it seems like he’s always over-dramatic about everything in his career. I guess he hasn’t fully weaned himself out of being an actor yet…

ps check out the link in my name

  37. y’all is some dumb dicks for looking at a little clip and judging the video from that. y’all need to grow up.let him do him and judge him for doing him .

i cant wait until 2012 this hating shit will be over and then we will be able to grow from boyz to men PEACE………..

  38. @ZYX
I stand corrected. Well said, Lil X was INVOLVED though. He just didn’t direct. He linked Trey and Drake up at another video and oversaw some of the treatment for Replacement. MY BAD! And thank you for correcting me.

    @NOLAIS504(uptown)
did you even read my comment? I want the 30 seconds it took to read your reply to me back. OBVIOUSLY the video didn’t come out yet…I CAN see the MTV video PREVIEWING the green-screen shooting for it. I’m aware it’s not out yet. Where did I ever say it is? I talked about his other videos….moron

  39. @Trap Jesus
hopefully you have no disciples, cuz what does 2012 have to do with anything?

  40. co-sign every anti-drake comment.
    BTW, Drake’s are cakes, right?

  41. Thats enough trashin a tiny little view of the video in the background….damn.

  42. Man there’s a lot of anti-Drake goin’ on in here. I think Over was a perfect single because it’s radio-friendly enough to be a hit and hip-hop enough to be accepted. Hook is dope and verses are good but not up to Drake’s standards. Beat is dope too.

Drake may come off as a bit corny in his interviews but that’s just because he analyzes everything about himself and his career. You’re just not used to seeing an intelligent rapper do interviews.

  43. true dat^ everyone is full of shit they hate for no fuckin reason, no one was on here haten when dude was makin songs wit nickeus f and tanya morgan and had no buzz. but now he got bigger bank and he doin young money shit now niggas hate. like seriously get yall mind rite. eitha u liked em or u never liked him. at least comapred to the otha 95% of shit on the radio this guy can add lyricism. cuz the radi is missing that. i guess its true, the more you succed the more people fight against you. folks just dont wanna see someone rise. especially black folks n im sad to say it. like a rapper blows up or a guy gets a education n people start sayin he’s fake or he aint real no more cuz he moved out the hood?????? naw foo he just wised up who want to stay there.

  44. For the record, I never liked the kid. i gave him a chance too. I always give him a chance. The kids skills are eh-eh. Nothin special to the point where all yall lovers praise him like he’s sooooooooooooooo whatever, and the ppl who get soooo offended when hes criticized.
ya ever heard Common say “If I don’t like it, I don’t like it, That don’t mean that I’m hatin’”?

  45. Enough with all this trailer, BTS, interview, etc. Shoot the fucking video, edit it, put it out, go on your tour and put out your fucking album !!!

I’m hoping the album is good, with all the hype/buzz that is being re-created but in all honesty people are starting to lose patience with all this waiting.
