A few heads have been wondering what’s been up with the implosion of 9th Wonder-produced songs. Well, 9th hit me up and said, quite simply, that he has tons of music lying around and was tired of holding on to it. Like getting free music from him is a bad thing. I LOVE how an artist has a hot song and someone points out a line they don’t like as if they can RAP better. Where they do that at? LOL these guys are sick, period. I respect mc’s with real lyrics, and a twitter reference incorporates what’s popular and relevant. This is a digital age, it’s actually a smart move, maybe even… “genius” lol Let’s go act proof!

LOL no name rappers?? He has his own label, they are HIS own artists. If you’ve heard of the rapper then they probably belong to some other label already. How difficult is that to understand?

To piggyback on what gzaz said in reference to OGEazy, opinions are like twitter accounts, everybody has one… OGEazy, I’d agree with you if Actual Proof was LOL Smiley Facing it up… But this is pure lyrical wit and skill here. No fluff. Plus the twitter reference, like gzaz said, is on point with where we are right now with the Internet, pop culture and Hip-Hop’s place in it.

A second play through and I realize maybe my choice of words was extreme. The Twitter reference didn’t ruin the song, and overall the verses represent some real hip hop.

Dope as usual, I know Enigma he is a dope emcee, never heard the other brothers but they mesh very well together and the beat doesn’t hurt at all. I guess they doin’ the do over there at JAMLA dont hate congratulate str8 solid tracks coming out this camp.

I’m in my late 30′s so a bit of an “elder statesman” here; that’ll no doubt reflect my point of view. We–late 30′s & up–take our music *very* seriously, lol! I remember very well when Sugar Hill dropped Rapper’s Delight in 79′. It–this thing called “Rap”–was so new & fresh, unlike anything that anyone had ever heard before. And we *immediately* took to it.
I share this to say that I believe that that’s the sort of feeling/energy that every rapper should aspire to create–that feeling of “Wow, this is a breath of fresh air!”. That being said…
I think that the song “Genius” is a great opener for Actual Proof. I give it a solid B–good job!
For one, music is the foundation of any good song; that’s a given. And this track creates a good energy. It’s clean & fresh sounding and has that “head nodder” factor. And the emcees do a good job, laying into it with solid rhymes done up in a “poetic style” rhyme scheme. I found it very refreshing too that I wasn’t listening to just another group of dingy “thugs” talkin’ a bunch of mundane blah, blah, blah. These guys actually sound creative. I listened to Genius 3X in order to get my critique just right. Again…good job, guys!
They should put a video out for this.
