Meka’s Soul Mix Show: Ready To Die Edition (FreEP)

I’ve always said that I much rather prefer to celebrate the life of an artist who passed on their birthday rather than their death day, as it just seems morose to do it on the latter. However, with virtually everybody in New York treating this day like it’s some sort of urban holiday, I decided that I’d whip up a freEP of B.I.G. tracks that were sampled in his first album. Tracklist and link down bottom.

1. James Brown – Coldblooded (sampled in “Gimme The Loot”)
2. Overnight Sensation – Avalanche (sampled in “The What”)
3. Dave Grusin – Either Way (sampled in “Everyday Struggles”)
4. Willie Hutch – Hospital Prelude Of Love Theme (sampled in “Ready To Die”)
5. Kool & The Gang – Spirit Of The Boogie (sampled in “Friend Of Mine”)

I think we do it because nobody cares about an artist’s birthday when they’re alive but everybody remembers when they died. A lot of people don’t even know Biggie’s birthday but everyone remembers how they felt the day he died.

  6. might be worth checking:
